MIAMI (Reuters) - Seven Arab American men filed a $28 million lawsuit against a Denny's restaurant in Florida, saying the manager kicked them out and told them, "We don't serve bin Ladens here," their lawyer said on Thursday.

So lets see, ten years ago we it was blacks that received racist remarks, now Arabs. Maybe in another ten years will have Indians getting hate for outsourced jobs? i can't believe the idiocy of people that work these places.

But really it's just a shift of hate from one group to the next. We don't have to like each other, but we've all got to live on the same planet. There's simply no need for this kind of mentality.

I was getting on the bus once and this drunk guy started yelling at this other guy, who looked barely middle-eastern, calling him Bin Laden and asking why the hell he wasn't over in Iraq. It could've been the booze or it could've been the stupid, but I don't think he realised Al Qaeda didn't exactly have a whole lot of anything to do with Iraq.

I think there is. There must be some kind of reasoning behind irrational hatred. The only thing I can think of is that its human nature to be suspicious of 'outsiders'.
 
Okay, it's not the thing to do, but $28 million? Come on, the guy didn't cut off their wangs. Besides, don't most restaurants have signs stating they reserve the right to refuse service for any reason?

Even if they do have the sign that doesn't make racism an acceptable reason to deny service come on now.

Regardless their was a police officer in the place and he seems to be siding with Denny's.... should be interesting to see if Denny's settles or not.

Think of the $28 million not so much as compensation for the individuals' pain and suffering, but also as a deterent for Denny's to allow this to happen again. Especially given their track record, for this to keep happenning is very irresponsible.

Please that's smaller than the previous amts that Denny was sued for back in the 90's when they were having all the black lawsuits.

so give the $28 million to a muslim charity, or some other organisation helping fight against whatever this guy suffered. its still a deterrent, but reduces the liklihood of wishful thinking lawsuits.

Fine, sue Denny's, but $28 million because someone basically called you a name? They need to get over themselves. I don't know them, and I can already tell you I wouldn't enjoy their company, and it has NOTHING to do with their race.

The point is deterrence isn't it? The only way to deter a corp is to hit 'em where it hurts. In the bank account. Maybe then they'll invest in some damn sensitivity training. Or better yet, stop being a dumbass training.

i'm not saying their decision to sue is valid or invalid, but the fact is that Denny's has been called out for this before. These guys could've just walked out, gotten beligerent, or written the Denny's home office and the issue would've more or less be swept under the rug. At least a lawsuit brings this behavior to the attention of the nation. It won't stop similar events from happening in the future, but it brings awareness to the possible outcome of making such a comment.

It's also worth pointing out that they're not gauranteed $28 million, and whatever their awarded will be after the lawyers' fees and whatever other fees will be much less than that.

For all you know, after all is said an done, the money they're awarded might not even cover a year of their collective salaries.

Upon further review of the article, it looks like bin Laden really could use that $28 million..
After waiting more than an hour for their food while later customers were served, they asked twice about their order. The lawsuit said Ascano told them "Bin Laden is in charge of the kitchen."

I think the hated minority in the future will be gays. They'll ruin society and give everyone the gay to the point that there'll be a horrible backlash, and anyone wearing pink (including frat guys with popped collars) will be beaten to within an inch of their lives.
 
So, what WOULD be a good amount to sue for Seth?

You do agree that there should be some financial compensation, right? And that doesn't necessarily mean compensation for these people, but also giving out funds to groups that combat racism.

The manager who said the stupid shit should lose his job and maybe they should have Denny's implement some kind of diversity training. Giving these guys 28 mil will do no good. I would be fine with this guy getting made to do some kind of community service or something for their community.

Plus its fucking Denny's. Has anybody went there and received good service? I mean everytime I go there it takes for freaking ever just to get my order taken.(just talking about the slow service not the comments made by manager)
