Destiny 2 PC performance thread

Just how shitty jaguars are that this game must be limited to 30 on consoles. It feels so lightweight compared with most AAA releases, didn't expect that. Not much RAM needed either.

Honestly it doesn't look all that good either but looks good enough and I really love Destiny's art direction, that's what made me play the first game for as long as I did.

I don't know about pvp yet, that's what I played the most in first game. I will miss 6v6 with vehicles. Gotta get my Halo fix somehow. Those were so much fun. Now it's just a arena shooter.

Any CPU benchmarks yet ? Curious to know if my i7 4790K will hold me back at all

My i7-4790k at stock doesn't seem to be causing an issue for my 1080 Ti. I did notice that at the very start of Inverted Spire I was seeing FPS as low as like 68, which is the lowest I've found anywhere in the beta. Generally though my average FPS is 90-100.

I still don't understand why they disabled it to begin with...how can you cheat using Afterburner?...I understand certain overlays can do that but Afterburner and similar programs don't have that capability

It works for some people, such as myself, but there doesn't seem to be an answer to the question of why. The situation reminds me of the wide range of experiences people had and possibly still have with texture streaming in Rage in that there's a sort of temperamentality that escapes explanation.

GameGPU's article is up.

Edit: A number of people have been curious how the game performs on the worst of AMD's CPUs, so here's that data:

destiny2betacpu5nxoz.jpg

The Athlon 5150 isn't represented, but it's safe to say Bungie wasn't lying about CPU resources being the reason for the 30fps cap on the console side.

Well, I certainly don't deny the very distinct possibility the update is what broke compatibility in some cases, but even assuming that to be case, the situation isn't any clearer, haha. It's all very strange.

I'm really at a loss. Mine was working yesterday and not today.

RTSS, FRAPS, OBS... none of it is supposed to work in D2 by design.

That is from Bungie. None of it should hook.

Hence my surprise and puzzlement yesterday about people getting it to work. imo it's just stupid that they are going out of their way to block utility software.

More on HDR

It's (still!) the goddamn NV drivers.

Rolled all the way back to 378.92. Flip on HDR in 1080p, turns right on. No issue.

Still can't get 4K to show up as a resolution option for whatever reason, but yup, HDR is still broken two driver versions later.

What a mess.

It's possible they're trying to block any and all forms of DLL injections they deem "unsafe" for whatever reason. Then again, this is not my area of expertise, and I'm just speculating.

AFR friendly seems to work well in Vega Crossfire, no typical AFR flickering as far as I can see. But my MSIAB doesn't work so I can't prove it with a screen cap....

They are, regardless RTSS is working for some and not for others. No one knows why.

I dunno, I read the support page you're talking about and it sounds more like they are just broadcasting the possible incompatibility, not that they are going out of their way to disable 100% of them.

I mean, Shadowplay still works. I don't even know as you could get around that one properly.

Has the game frozen for anyone else?
It will randomly freeze for a couple of seconds now and again, this happens across all game modes. I feel like maybe it's a network thing but I'm not sure, and it doesn't happen to me in any other game, performance has been fine except this issue.

I've got everything maxed other than SMAA instead of MSAA on a 4790k/970 and it's smooth. Even going to MSAA it only starts to drop a little bit.

Same build and I never noticed any of that personally.

Playing on 4k Ultra settings / SMAA

1080ti oc'd
7700k 4.9ghz
32GB 3200mhz ram
960 evo 1TB SSD

Getting constant 60-70FPS w/ G-sync.

PC team leader has gone on record few times on his twitter that it is intended functionality that e.g. RTSS doesn't work and hook into Destiny 2. They want it to be like that and say reason to be anti-cheat purposes.

no fucking wonder. I spent 2 hours last night trying to get OBS to work. Tried to ShadowPlay it as well, didn't work (ShadowPlay kept giving me errors even when the game wasn't booted, so that might be another problem) but damn.

That answers that.

i7 6700k
32GB 3200mhz
2 x 1080 SuperClocked

4k Fullscreen
Highest settings, except AA turned off
Never drops below 60 FPS.

I did remove VSync and it hovered around 100-120.

It won't -- I'm running over 100 FPS maxed on 1440p with 110% rendering scale with a i7 4790k and a 1080ti.

4790k is a great processor -- especially overclocked.

My performance so far is about 125 KB/s

Maybe it will finish in time to try it for an hour or two on Thursday...

(gigabit connection here.. probably their servers being swamped?)

Ultra @ 1080p, smooth as silk

4670K @ 4.2
1070
16GB RAM

Since the 1070 is even better than my 980ti, you should be good turning the res up to 1440p with some small adjustments to settings (Setting DoF to just High and then using HDAO instead of 3D, SMAA for AA) I think for resolution scaler, for 1080p to 1440p you set it to 133%. I just use the Nvidia control panel for custom resolutions and down sample by selecting it at the normal resolution part. Though this is for 60FPS! if you're going higher than that then stick to 1080p.

I can't seem to get the RTSS overlay for FPS counter to appear. Is there a setting or something I need to enable?

EDIT: Oh does it just not work?

It worked yesterday and didn't today.

I found an article with activision saying overlays are not going to be working at all and there will be an ingame fps counter. Can't find the counter in the options and I'm bummed, but I was able to tweak settings last night and I found my 60fps 4k sweet spot

in-game Counter is in Gameplay Settings

NVidia's in-game counter will still work. The counter in the beta is pretty awful and doesn't accurately track frames at all.

It works for some, not for others, and the rest fall somewhere in the middle (i.e. it works after some fiddling). There's a small chance setting the application detection level to Low will do the trick, so start there. Best of luck!

I am beyond impressed. I'm running a very old computer that can't handle most games these days, and yet I'm able to play the game! It's a bit choppy during a few of the more intense scenes (like when it's raining and a bunch of explosions are going off), but I can actually play a new game on my old ass budget build computer in 2017! Wow! Running at 1440x900 on lowest settings, I'm assuming (I didn't end up checking because I was having fun playing).

RAM: 4GB
Graphics: Geforce GTX 460

ShadowPlay is whitelisted, it should work.

Thanks! You have pretty much my exact set up. What motherboard are you on? I'm on ASUS Z170M-Plus, if that's a potential source of my issue.

I wonder where in the beta they tested the CPU performance because I feel like my i5 6600K is having some odd issues with the Strike opening area

I have an Asus Z170-A mobo.

So I just put in decent time with the beta. i5-6600k @ 4.2ghz, GTX 1070 SC, 16gb DDR4 3000mhz, SSD.

I have everything at max on 1440p except DOF at High and SMAA anti aliasing.

I'm getting 80-90 fps pretty much constant. Game is gorgeous with Gsync. It feels like a different game than the console version.

I did not get any fps drops at the start of that strike, and I'm not seeing 100% core usage. Sorry, not sure why you are experiencing that.

Game is optimized really well and plays well, just a matter of whether the content is there.

OBS works with window capture & screen/monitor capture. Pretty much anything besides game capture - not sure what you spent 2 hours doing.

I7-7700k
8GB DDR4 RAM
GTX 1070

At 1440p with gsync maintained a stable 72 fps and a variable framerate of 70-85 without. Very happy I can go above 60 on pretty much highest settings (turned view distance down to high and chromic abberation and film grain off). It plays so smooth. Oh and turned the AA down to SMAA 4x, no need to go nuts at 1440p.

This is a well done PC port from what I've seen

PaNaMa

Banned
5930K @4.2Ghz
980ti @1316Mhz (can go higher but no need)
RAM: DDR4 XMP @2801Mhz

Settings: All Highest except DOF which I left on Low, and AA is SMAA
Turned off Chromatic and Film Grain.
Res: 2560x1440.
FOV: 90

Framerate : Avg High 70s to ~110, even into the 130s through story missions and strike depending on where i'm standing and what's going on. Narrow hallways tend to be higher FPS.

Never dropped below 67fps the whole time I played, and usually stayed MUCH higher.

During tower assault it section it twice dipped into the high 60s (67-68) during multiple crash pods and high enemy count. Other time was once you go through Xur's door into the market place where everything is on fire. About half way down that street, I dipped into 67-68 fps range when all the enemies were up and those firetank guys were doing their thing. ** It was very rare to see dips into the high 60s.

Eventually I vsynced to 60 cause why make my card work harder than it needs to, and screen tearing makes Rasputin cry. Locked at 60, never dipped below except for cutscenes which are hardcoded 30fps. Solid job Bungie!!

SargerusBR

I love Pokken!
Played for around 2 hours, i'm really surprised this runs well on my old 650ti on Low settings, getting from 40-60 fps, never below 30.

My FPS drops significantly in PVE at the "defend vs. 3 waves" intro section. i3570k 4.4 ghz, 16 gb 1866 mhz RAM, 8 GB RX 480. 1080p high and low, doesn't seem to matter. I swear I saw minimums in the 30s and highs in the 150s. Not sure why there's such a large range. PVP is more stable, though that's expected. I think my CPU is holding things back when there are tons of enemies and effects on the screen.

Plays really great at whatever resolution. Surprisingly smooth, gameplay feels great here due to frame rate. But my PC is kinda capable.

i7 6850k (OC)
GTX 1080
16GB Ram
SSD

My friend was playing on his old i5 and 780Ti and it was running "60fps no prob" though not sure of his settings. My other friend has a slightly lesser rig with a 980, no issue. Another with a more powerful rig than mine played great naturally too.

Not seeing really any fps drop for the most part. Just at odd times when looking at random burning things from off angle, and even that is minimal.

I'm a PC noob. Can anyone explain to me why the Ryzen 3 which is only 110 bucks is performing better than the Ryzen 5? Didn't Bungie say the recommended specs were at least a Ryzen 5?

Playing at 1920x1200 with 150% render resolution, all settings maxed. I have opted for FXAA as I like a soft, clean image, and it seems to handle the (extremely persistent) shader aliasing the best.

I've yet to get any drops below 60 FPS. I also have to commend the basic feel of the game. Right out of the gate it really plays very well - no messing around with FastSync or mouse settings needed. Really refreshing, so many modern games manage to just completely bungle their M&K controls to the point I give up and grab the gamepad.

Seems like a very good version of the game based on my own experiences. It's fun so far.
