When you're in the level 20+ realm, the progress bar shows how much Light you're away from your next Light level. This can only be increased by getting gear with higher Light stats and/or upgrading your gear. With the gear with Light, your stats get boosted when you upgrade the pieces so definitely do that as well as keep hunting for better gear.

how much light you have in the armor. Each armor piece will say something like
+13 light
+X discipline
You basically have to get armor with enough light to go up in levels as they all add up. Once you reach legendaries, the light in the armor can be upgraded and increase. So basically once you reach level 20 you'll join the rest of us in farming, buying and hoping for legendaries lol. Though rares should take you to at least level 24 or so if you get level 20 rares.

I think it can be done in parts with checkpoints? Like an hour a night or whatever.
I believe it unlocks at level 24 (though you'll be too low to do it), and is "rated" level 28, but has been done by 26s.
No they are low. Only kill what you have to in the high level strikes. That's my advice. At least if you're a lower level than the recommended level that is...
Yes you have to revive teammates. If everyone dies you get sent back to orbit as well so there's no checkpoints at all.

It is possible, but raid progress seems to be tied to the party leader. So, as long as the same person starts it each time you should be okay.
I've only tagged along the two times I've gone in. I've also received loot both times, which surprised me since there's supposed to be a weekly lockout per encounter. Wonder if it only affects boss kill loot and not the other phases...
Edit: I just remembered that the weekly cap and stuff hadn't reset for me while I did my first raid attempt and didn't reset until I restarted the game. Maybe it counted my initial progress as "last week" so I got extra loot?... Hmm.

Don't know that there is one, but I enjoy the strike playlist so I would go with that. Only thing is, I've never seen a legendary drop there as an engram or as a reward. But you will upgrade your rep and Vanguard marks.

Identified my reward for getting the cryptarch to rank 7, and received 2 legendary engrams, and 1 rare engram.
I identified the 2 legendaries and got strange coins, and identified the 1 rare to get legendary boots.
I'm absolutely fine with that.
Finally level 24.

Farming in open world shared instances is the fucking worst. Repetitive and/or exploit farming is a sorry enough exercise, but it'd be nice if people could at least show enough respect to limit that stuff to private instances where it doesn't impinge upon others playing the game as its meant to be enjoyed.
Here's hoping Bungie patches as much of that stuff out of the game as possible.

While they're at it they need to improve the grind up to the level necessary to raid. If I didn't have to rely entirely on weekly caps and RNG, I wouldn't be going out of my way to find exploits using the checkpoint system in this game.
I see all these posts from users offended by those jumping to the conclusion that the raid is basically more enemies with more health, because they're basing that off of what Bungie calls challenging in the strike missions. They literally just throw everything at you at once. It's not a challenge, it's just dumb. If they're saving some legitimately challenging content behind such a difficult wall to climb, they're only going to get a small portion of the Destiny population to experience some decent endgame.

I said the same at first. In fact I keep saying that I won't farm. But whenever somebody posts a new video with "best engram farming spot guaranteed" I get all giddy as a goose, then I go play it and I get absolutely nothing besides greens and a couple of blues.
At this point your best bet if you want to keep having fun is to either:
A. Do bounties/patrol missions to level up your vanguard/faction up to level 2, at which point you can start buying legendary armor from them.
B. Play crucible with bounties, which will level up your equipment, has a chance of getting you something good at the end, and also you'd level up crucible and might be able to buy stuff from them later.

It wouldn't be impossible to have done it by now I guess. I've had the gear for a while I just get really bored farming, especially since its 15 minutes between opportunities for one of the most important materials and it's still not a definite drop each time. Speaking of which I now need 16 Helium Filaments and Spirit Blooms so it seems I'm going back for another try.
