Anyone up to do some strike playlist stuff later? Perhaps take on the lvl 22 weekly strike and the daily story?

PSN: GKW212

I will be on in about 4.5 hours and ready to go.

I'm a level 21 hunter.

Just a few random gameplay tips from harmless fun to clutch fireteam maneuvers.

*snip*

That's all for now. Good hunting, Guardians!

Thank you so much or this. Seriously. Read through the first post and bookmarked them both! I'm lvl 19 and keep hearing about what lies ahead so this is freaking gold to me. Lol, guess I assumed falsely that it was going to be more of the same but it looks like things switch up quite a bit.

Questions: I've heard that up until 20 it's pointless decrypting the engrams I find. Is this true or have I been hoarding for no reason? I don't even understand how my level would affect its contents. Is it like a lottery everytime you visit the guy?

Second, do you know anything about destinylfg? Is it a good resource for finding people to link up with?

Lastly, is it better to stick with a weapon that's upgradable or do I switch when something has a higher number? Sorry for the noob questions.

Couple of random questions:

1) Are there any pre-requisites to getting an exotic bounty offer, or is it really just completely random?

2) What's the best way to get a blue or purple level 20 weapon? I'm going crazy, I'm level 24 and I have maxed out blues on everything else, and a purple Fusion Rifle, but I'm still using green Auto / Scout Rifles because I cannot get a blue one. I've checked every vendor restock, farmed engrams for 4 hours, done weeklies and dailies, everything.

3) Anyone know what is considered bannable? On the official forums I see lots of posts from people complaining they got banned and haven't done anything other than play the game normally. Makes me nervous.

Also, I'm wondering if we'll be heading to Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, and do more in the Astroid Belt/Reef. We defintiely have placeholders for them in the Grimore.

This is going to be interesting.

Awesome post - very useful stuff.
Good stuff Hawkian!
Awesome stuff, this is the best walk through and details I have read that explain destiny so well. And yes this should be on 1st page of the next OT.
thanks a lot guys :)
Went home and hit lvl 21 during lunch. Blue engram turned into a blue chest piece. Very satisfying.

As a level 21, is 24 going to be too tough for me?
I'd happily take you on my fireteam and we'd be fine- but matchmade, with no voice communication, it'd be rough going. I'd recommend 22 and mostly rare armor/weapons before trying the 24 playlist on your own.

Just a few random gameplay tips from harmless fun to clutch fireteam maneuvers.

Go Fast or Go Home

With so much encouragement to replay the various content in Destiny, I've already started challenging myself to run through the missions I'm comfortable with as fast as humanly possible. And I mean literally run- you'll find that few fights in Destiny are required. Beyond Defend waves, minibosses and bosses the game is pretty content to let you run and jump through its levels if you so choose.

One of my favorite discoveries is that while many locations prevent you from summoning your sparrow, they don't give a damn about you driving it in. Boosting through Hive temples and narrow corridors in the Cosmodrome is a blast for me, and it's also occasionally viable tactically- if there's a tough group blockading an entrance but it isn't a required fight, you can often jet right past them.

Arc, Void, and Fire
S2qzns4.png
jlSSSW5.png
mAIfAXK.png

Of Destiny's advanced elements, this is the most basic one- but mastering it is key to succeeding in high-level context and slicing through easier stuff with haste.

Elemental damage is only a feature of Secondary and Heavy weapons. No primaries, excepting a few exotics feature any elemental damage.

Enemies in Destiny frequently use shields, and these shields are always powered by an element: blue/white (arc), void (purple), and fire (red/orange). Shields are simply weak to their own color. Using an Arc fusion rifle on a blue shield (as worn by Fallen) will take it down in mere moments, whereas I can't even face a Minotaur confidently without a Void weapon.

If you are colorblind, or would just prefer to memorize the enemy types rather than rely on shield color... generally speaking, it goes like this:
Fallen < Arc
Hive < Fire
Vex < Void

However, there are some exceptions, so always try to call out what kind of shield a tough new enemy spawn is rocking as soon as you spot it.

It's generally a good idea to keep multiple weapons in your inventory so that you have at least one of each elemental type to rely on. However, swapping weapons in your inventory halves your ammo for that weapon type. As a result, in tougher content it's actually a better idea to designate members of the fireteam to each have a different elemental secondary weapon- three players, three elements- to be called upon when needed for quickly disabling shields.

Be a Synthesizer

There's a cap of 25000 glimmer in Destiny and it starts to pile up quite quickly at the higher levels. The best investment for your blue shiny stuff that I've seen so far is, without question, special/heavy ammo synthesis consumables from the Gunsmith.

Simple enough, you pop these from your inventory and they replenish your ammo. So far as I'm concerned, these are Destiny's health/mana potions, and any fireteam should always have them at the ready. Buy a handful of each, especially heavy, and replenish whenever you get back to the tower after using them.

In addition to tough content often leaving you ammo-starved for mere survival, being able to near-continuously pump out special/heavy weapon damage to a boss can sharply reduce the length of a fight.

Subclass Mastery: Be Water

Once you hit level 20, you're still earning XP- and you'll likely have at least a few more ability upgrades to unlock on your chosen subclass. But once you've maxed it out, all that nutritious XP is going to waste!

When doing content where you're comfortable, turning in bounties, farming, or otherwise acquiring XP but don't need to be playing at your absolute most efficient- swap to your other subclass to get it maxed out too. Leveling up with your second subclass not only allows you to bring the full suite of abilities your class to the table for any encounter, it also enhances your overall capability because of the game's extremely generous approach to swapping subclasses. You can literally switch mid-combat. While reloading, if you like.

For example, during a boss fight a Gunsliger hunter might ready her super and then unload Golden Gun into the boss- only to notice a downed ally, quickly swap to bladedancer and cloak to run in for the revive.

By mastering both subclasses, you can ensure that your Guardian not only brings both skillsets to the table, but is a fluid and adaptable warrior for any situation.

Note: swapping subclasses empties your Super meter- so if you have it full, pop your super and take advantage before any class-swapping trickery.

One final note on subclasses: most if not all have a selectable passive skill that affects the distribution of your stats. For scenarios in which your death could mean absolute final defeat for your party, consider swapping to the one with the highest armor- sacrificing a little bit for the chance to take an extra hit or two might save your Nightfall Strike.

All that Glimmers

I'm hoping that anyone 20 or over already understands how easy it is to stock up on Glimmer. Chests, dismantling greens and unneeded blues, PvP match completion, Strike completion, just killing stuff... all of this loads you up on Glimmer. Again, there's a 25000 glimmer cap, and approaching this without even realizing it is totally possible.
Ammo Synthesis!

But even so, it's nice to know how to earn more when you need it. If you hadn't noticed, any time you kill a "Major" enemy (yellow health bar), they'll drop 25 glimmer. Enemies from each race also frequently drop a consumable that makes killing them more profitable. I am glad that human beings do not follow their example.

Here you can see the glimmer gain from killing a Hive major without a Black Wax Idol on, and with it on. The effect lasts for 10 minutes.

I hearby vote for a "Destiny Tips and Tricks: Presented by Hawkian" thread on its own. These posts are incredible and should get as much visibility as possible.

It should definitely be linked in the next OP, but it should be given its own space. And we can share tactics, etc, in the thread.

Shit, never seen that happen. Was farming Spinmetal when it said "the enemies are closing in on each other" then it all kicked off. Hive and Fallen sent out some pretty high level for the area captains and Knights and fucked shit up. Some poor level 5 got caught in the crossfire multiple times.

Shot in the dark, but does anyone happen to know if Xyor will spawn during the weekly moon strike or does it have to be on the new icon that showed up on the moon for the Thorn bounty? Was hoping to knock them both out in one go instead of having to do 2 lvl 26 moon strikes.

1) It's random, /hands you book of RNGesus.

2) Rep grind is the best bet for a purple weapon...crucible seems to have a decent chance of netting you a level 20 blue though.

3) Not sure - sorry.

Suros Regime. I got the upgrade that reduces its rate of fire but ups its damage. It's an absolute beast in PVE but too slow in PVP :/

RoF is your friend in PvP. If by damage you mean impact, that's important too. Actual damage point mean jack when the damage is normalized for all players.

Anyone have advice for the best way to get Vanguard Marks for a solo player? The lack of matchmaking in this game really sucks once you start doing Light Levels.

You can get at least 12 marks per hour on Earth by doing the Devil Walker event at 15 min and 45 min of every hour and the warsat/defeat waves of enemies at 30 min I believe. Then just do patrols and collect spin metal/find chests in between.

Devil Walker is in The Divide, Warsat even in The Mothyards

Not to say the game is revolutionary or anything, but it is actually a pretty unique and cool system. I can't wait for the raid.
Questions: I've heard that up until 20 it's pointless decrypting the engrams I find. Is this true or have I been hoarding for no reason? I don't even understand how my level would affect its contents.
It's just that when you decrypt it, it can be up to your current level.
Is it like a lottery everytime you visit the guy?
Oh yes.
Second, do you know anything about destinylfg? Is it a good resource for finding people to link up with?
Yeah. Against my better efforts, both
www.destinylfg.net
and
www.destinylfg.com

have been fully adopted and are really active. I wish the community had stuck with one, but hey *shrug* They work.
Lastly, is it better to stick with a weapon that's upgradable or do I switch when something has a higher number? Sorry for the noob questions.
Higher base level gear is almost always better. There are some kinda bad guns that you just don't want to ever equip, but in most cases.

Have you guys figured out the public event schedule yet? As of now, I noticed that fallen walkers spawn on:

Old Russia - The Divide
Moon - Anchor of light
Venus - Ember Caves

They all spawn approx. at xx:15 and xx:45 of every hour. Sometimes you will have a "kill the target" event on the Moon instead of the walker.

I can't seem to find any Goliath public event on Mars, and it's kind of a shame.

I've been grinding Public Events for the past few days.

I used this Public event loop on earth http://www.gosunoob.com/destiny/farm-max-vanguard-marks-4-hours/

Here's the times for the public event everywhere: http://destiny.wikia.com/wiki/Public_Event

Really? Hmmm, thought that thing would be a beast in PvP, guess the slower rate of fire is a downer. That stability is amazing with what appears to be a high rate of fire and impact (compared to other AR's at least).

in the name of the traveler,
the fuck is a tournament ticket?

This is the only thing I've found on it:

Early this week we got our first glimpse of the Mercury Crucible location, The Burning Shrine; The map features a sun-filled skybox and changing Vex architecture that can block line of sight.

aIllWmI.jpg

This Crucible mode appears to be very different from the rest. Not only is there a level 20 requirement, but we’ll also need to earn our way into it. The Trials will likely be the most competitive mode as well, since you will no longer be able to participate in the mode if you lose 3 times, until you buy your way back in.

The Trials of Osiris will only take place on The Burning Shrine. As we can see from the description of the Osiris Coin, we’ll be able to go to Mercury for the Trials of Osiris and earn rewards for continued victories. It’s assumed that the Osiris Faction promotes this Crucible mode.

You will need to buy the coin for 1 Mote of Light (currency gained once level 20) to gain access, and if you lose 3 times, you’ll need to buy another coin to enter again.

We’ll be able to earn the Jewel of Osiris, which may be the ultimate reward.

There’s an Exotic Bounty that takes place here as well:
An Unknown Patron
Reward: Fate of All Fools (Scout Rifle)

hahah well thank you! I do have some more topics I've jotted stuff down for already (Exotic Weapon Bounties, basic Crucible tips, gearing up alts, and difficulty modifiers), but I dunno if a dedicated thread would really be kosher?

In regards to cave farming - is there a benefit of joining someone's fireteam who is also farming the cave with you?

I don't think fireteams make a difference. As long as enemies are dying, drops will appear.

The rate is much higher if you're doing the killing yourself, though. Up to you if you want to play with a friend.

Also, the tank in The Divide always spawns at around x:13 and x:43.

I'm thinking some are doing this because of the bounties that require the completion of strikes without dying. Instead of contributing, they lurk in the background and let the others do all the work. It's lame. They could easily pick a level 8 strike and not have to worry too much about it.

Exactly. Sitting idle is dumb. If you're level 20 even, the level 12 moon strike is ridiculously easy. Did that with 3 level 24s and no one died.

Can anyone give me a clue for the "Shattered Memory Fragment" exotic bounty?

I need to find a ghost from the final mission of Fireteam Tuyet.

Sorry, I should say I please don't spoiler it!

Does the regular Vanguard class vendor sell them for Marks? I've only ever seen him selling armor pieces.

Oh yeah the crosshair just doesn't move when I'm shooting, it just takes an age to empty a clip. Oh well, it demolishes everything in PVE so I'm still happy.
