This is no longer true.Only play the game if you have friends. It is not fun solo.
Does anyone know the best way to get an exotic after I've beaten the Taken King story?

Sigh, looks like ill be snagging it sometime this weekend. I already have the OG game and all DLC, what exactly do I need to get? Just the taken king download?
Yup. Just make sure you download 2.0 already. If not you'll be waiting a while...Yeah, just the $40 Taken King download
Early Story spoiler (in a Destiny Thread no less!) question.
Is the Queen dead? Asshole Brother too? If so how does the Reef function, is there a new Awoken Monarch?
Let's say I ONLY have vanilla Destiny.
I need both previous expansions to play this one but that bundle is 80 bucks. The Legendary Edition comes with everything and the vanilla game.
So I buy the same game twice in order to save 20 dollars?
I kind of agree with this too. I am not playing with my buddies as much right now because we are in different places on quests etc.
Patrol, Strikes, Weekly, Daily and Nightfall is a different story though.
I made it to level 40, and I've got a 200+ light level. I can never seem to find decent looking class items. Now that I'm able to accumulate Legendary Marks, I'm hoping to buy some of the Cryptarch engrams.
Lemme ask you folks. I quit during the original release of the game at the Venus missions, because I was so god damn bored of every story mission having no plot, no setup, and just being walk over to the thing, hold a button, and then get swarmed by enemies. There weren't any interesting sidequests, with actual content, just patrol missions about shoot 10 of these or what have you, and didn't care for the multiplayer.
Has 2.0 fixed any of these problems or what? Would it be worth it for me grabbing the Taken King, because the early game has been "fixed" or is it still a total slog?

No one would be playing it if it was a slog. The Taken King quests are the best quests Destiny has ever had. It's not to say that these are the best quests ever made, but they are much more interesting than the vanilla Destiny quests that felt like you were going through the motions for no reason.
Ok so I warped up my light level today from like 250 to 280 using this method. It has been posted before here and there but I'm not sure whether many people are really doing it. Also not sure if the method really works or just placebo but it doesn't hurt.
The key idea of the method is that the new loot system gives you a sort of gear check when dropping blues or decrypting engrams. So the better your gear, the better more higher power drops you get.
So basically what you do is collect a bunch of engrams by playing the game normally. Then go to the cryptarch but before you decrypt anything be sure to equip your maximum light level gear to be as high as possible. Then decrypt each engram one at a time. Then check it, and if it's higher light level then equip it. Then decrypt your next engram. Rinse and repeat. Doing that got me from 250 to 280 in a few hours of play time.
Also I hear that Blues from other classes can be infused with similar gear (so a hunter can infuse their chest piece with a higher powered warlock chest piece) (I haven't checked this yet myself, since I'm just playing on Warlock right now.) Thus you should really try to keep all or most of your discarded gear in order to increase your light level on your alts more quickly.

Just FYI, this question has been asked almost literally every page in the thread. A lot of folks are curious like you are - go back and look for other impressions, but my general comment is that they've done some fairly impressive triage to make the existing story missions feel more interwoven: it's mostly by rearranging the order of some missions, adding a good bit of flavor text and vendor conversations, and providing players with a quest log system that lets you know why you are actually shooting those dudes.Lemme ask you folks. That said, the original missions are 100 percent unchanged, so if lack of mission variety was a thing, that hasn't changed for original, TDB or HoW missions. The new TTK story missions, though, have changed quite a bit As far as pacing, flow and feel. And they've also added a lot of nonlinearity in terms of how you pursue quests and go on missions. Even in the reworked old campaign, you can intersperse Dark Below missions with campaign, etc.
If you still own the original, the 2.0 quest update and revamped campaign is free to download, so you can try it yourself and go from there. I'm loving it!
Is the Vex a viable PvP weapon again after the 2.0 update?
I don't know what it is with hand cannons now, but I can't seem to get used to them. I've been trying to get a decent low-mid RoF Legendary Scout Rifle as a replacement, but I can't seem to find any.
I snagged the Vanguard Ghost since that seems to be the item that drops least. It has Wormspore detector as well, and is 280 light.I just hit 75 legendary marks. Should I dump them straight into a piece of Vanguard gear or is there something more efficient to buy or save for either now or down the line?
Good stuff, Deku! Most of us run up to the Cryptarch and spam X, so this is good advice.Cross posting from the Community thread the "Method for raising your light level quickly".
It's genuinely surprising what a few popup boxes does for context and setup. I restarted a Titan from scratch to see what it was like and it works really well. Having Zavala (the titan Vanguard) greet you and then say "hey, There's a lot of Fallen chatter where we picked you up. We'd like you to go back and check it out, plus this will give you the chance to search for that engine you need to hit up the Moon."Eh, I'll give it a shot. New quest dialogue and context means a lot to me.
From my experience, yes. I don't have one but I've been killed by it plenty.
Try the Dead Orbit scout rifle Hung Jury SR4. Or, if you can find one, the Omolon HC Kumakatok. I'm loving the SR4. It sounds and handles far superior to any year 1 scout rifle to the point that I am not missing my hand cannons (although the Kumakatok is great!)
I swapped out 4 pieces of legendary armor for blues that had higher light stats, last night. The loot game has changed.I guess it is a little annoying that my current item progression seems to be just swapping back and forth between the two varieties of blue hunter armor as it very slowly increases in armor level.
FFXIV ARR
Diablo 3 RoS
Destiny TTK
Easily fits that crowd. Game feels fun in ways that it didn't before, and its not simply just having new things to do.
Though its the endgame where its at and we'll see whats the what.
Its just for the looks. Raid gear will outclass everything tomorrow.I'm starting to feel like using Legendary Marks toward Vanguard Armor and Weapons is pointless. I'm still getting rare and new legendary drops that go past 280.

Anyone else on Xbox One seeing frame rate or timing issues? Since 2.0 dropped I've been seeing issues with it.

Is the PS4 content significant enough to warrant the purchase over the xbox one version? Never played the game and more friends on xbox one
The game is way more enjoyable with friends so if you have friends who have it/will have it on Xbox then go Xbox. The amount of new PS exclusive stuff is fairly minimal, one strike and some gear if I remember correctly.
That's not a good idea. Just keep playing. You will get tons of blues and their light gets higher and higher.
I saw a pic around here of someone with 290 light wearing nothing but blues.
