Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

We ran the old strikes for a year, and when the old expansions came out, people wanted to play the new strikes more than the older ones for the variety. The current Vanguard playlist only has the new strikes or the ones that got new variations so people can play the new stuff; I'm guessing the older strikes will be folded into the mix before too much longer.

I was excited about the variety specifically because there was going to be a larger total number of strikes. Oh, well. I hope you're correct and we'll be able to play everything (or, at least, something close to it) in one place soon.

Sounds like you just want to shoot shit mindlessly, in which case there's plenty of strikes you can do that in.
.

There is nothing mindless about choosing your weapon, ammo management, special choice and use, etc. It is a shooter. What is fun about running around and picking up orbs and jumping on platforms? The whole thing is a contrived way of not using bullet sponge enemies. It makes no sense in the lore, in the game or any other logic.

"Oryx hit this platform, hurry jump on it and the next few in the right order! Then shoot this one guy while standing here, not there. Then run to the black ball and then back again! Why else wouldn't it work this way?"

Do you see any six player online first person platform jumping, orb running games on the market? Ya, not a big genre.

On days when you just want to kick back and mindlessly kill stuff to relieve stress, there's nothing better than patrolling a destination for an hour or so with no major objectives to worry about. Just take in the scenery, kill a bunch of low level mobs, race around on the sparrow, ect.
And you get the "I GET THIS THING" award.

I think we will, I'll be quite surprised if we end the year without the old strikes in the playlist, but we'll see. (As an aside, the removal of the strike-specific bounties is a potential indicator that they're going this direction. Bounties for a strike boss when you have a 1 in 12 chance in getting it from the playlist would be frustrating.)

The raid encounters are designed as a puzzle, aimed at testing problem solving and communication/coordination in ways regular strikes do not. Some of the mechanics have lore behind them (such as the VoG relics) and some don't; in the end the game design wins out. Not everything needs lore behind it, otherwise we'd have three tales of raid bosses who manage to hand you the only tools to their defeat over and over.

Destiny is one of the first then, to add other gameplay elements from other genres, and for good measure. It's a shame you don't like them, but as you pointed out, there are a ton of shooters that stick to the standard formula. Destiny always intended to be something of an amalgamation of things.

Destiny is sort of an RPG, it's a shooter, it's an MMO-light style of game. It's also a social game where people can hang and play together. It also has light platform elements. It is not a standard shooter.

It's very easy to just turn what you've said on it head, What is fun about pointing your gun at an enemy and shooting 24/7?

Raids mix things up, introduce new mechanics and keep things fresh. I don't understand how anyone could dislike them.

And you get the "I GET THIS THING" award.
Yay, I got my first award on GAF! lol

I actually like the design of that fight. The problem with poe was the crappy loot and lack of checkpoints.
Hey, I won't argue with you there.

I loved PoE and I really hope they update it soon, but the rewards were mostly terrible. If they could update it to Year 2 levels, offer better rewards and add a bit more variety to the encounters, it could be something really special.

For you guys who just want to run strikes, run Crota's End. It's still a raid but much less of a complicated one than VoG or KF. It's pretty straightforward, has only a few small mechanics to follow and, with the right skills and gear, can be run solo.

I really hope they do some events, similar to Iron Banner, using PoE. Just have a higher level PoE event for a week. Throw in some bounties. Boom new PVE event created. Second one in a year. It would also give us a reason to level up the House of Judgement faction.

MMO raid mechanics implemented into an FPS is my favorite thing about Destiny. I've always loved raiding in MMOs but don't have the fortitude to cobble together the patience to play actual MMOs anymore so Destiny scratches this itch in a unique way.

Same goes for the jumping puzzles. When I was first introduced to this type of stuff in Guild Wars 2 I fell in love with the idea of platforming puzzles. I love them in Destiny too. The ships and the part leading up to the exotic chest with the big pusher things are some of the best comic relief sections of my group's run. Someone always does something stupid and it's always fun to see who can get to the end or the chest first.

Dude I don't know, it's alright if you don't find them fun but it isn't hard to see why others do. These mechanics break up the monotony of just standing behind cover and shooting a thing in its weak spot. It's fun to coordinate mechanics with friends and it's fun to execute it perfectly for loot. All of it is just plain fun... if you like that type of content.

Yes, you get more mats (including legendary marks for purples). You don't actually have to UPGRADE them (as in, don't spend your mats), just get them fully upgradable.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. What do you mean by "get them fully upgradable"? Should I upgrade my equipment before dismantling it or not?

All you need to do is get the perks into an unlockable state (green circles all round, but not filled green nodes). You don't have to burn glimmer or materials on unlocking the nodes.

Dismantling an item in this state will net you more motes, materials etc.

An un-upgraded piece Gives you 3 marks and weapon or armour piece, an upgraded one gives you 5 marks and weapons or armour pieces.

Ah, ok. Thanks. How do I go about getting the perks in an unlockable state?

I see. Thank you.

Also if anyone wants to run some group action here's my id on both:
psn=chigga_kidd 289 Defender
Xbone= chiggakidd 270 Nightstalker

Is there only one daily story mission at a time? The Destiny website seems to indicate as much, in its "advisors" section. So if this is the case, what's the difference between dailies and the events players can encounter in the field that let them earn a "gold ranking" if they perform well?

Those are just world events (take out the target, defend the warsat etc,) - the daily missions are a select story based mission at a higher difficulty level, which give a guaranteed number of legendary marks when you complete them.

The daily missions you pick from the director.

Hey guys, I'm a bit confused about the pricing for TTK even after having read the OP.

In the UK/US, if I have the base Destiny game, how much will the digital download version of the game cost?

If I DON'T have the base game, then how much will the digital version cost?

And then how much will TTK cost at retail on its own w/out the legendary edition and w/legendary edition?

Thanks.

If you own Destiny, digital TTK addon is $40

If you don't own Destiny, everything costs $60 (TTK Legendary)

The only retail package for TTK that isn't the Collector's Edition is Legendary Edition, $60

If you own Destiny vanilla plus the all the year 1 DLC, then the digital TTK addon is $40

If you don't own all of that, everything costs $60 (TTK Legendary)

modified that for you.

Title screen will always show that even if you don't own the DLC - you have all the game files owners of the The Taken King do, just most of it is inaccessible until you buy it.

Do you know what version you bought? If you just bought Destiny I'm assuming you received a bundle that included The Taken King (TTK).

Also come over to the community side of GAF for the Destiny thread if you need any help.

Especially if you need a friend to do special quests ;)

Apologies for bumping an old thread but I thought this would be the best place to ask.

I played the original Destiny (the first release) back in 2014 and found it quite boring after a while so deleted it from the PS4 hard drive and traded it at my game store.

Like a lot of you, over the last 7 days I've been playing The Division and have been enjoying it. I am nearly at Level 30 and feel that I'm coming to the end so fancy getting back to Destiny after this. Last night I watched Giant Bomb's 'Taken King' Quick-Look and the game looks far more interesting now.

I have just bought the PS4 version of Destiny: The Taken King Legendary edition which apparently has the O.G. Destiny and all of the DLC including the latest Taken King.

When I start the game, will I play through the O.G. Destiny first? Or can I jump straight into the Taken King?

And will my Ghost be voiced by Nolan North from the beginning or will it be that dude from Game Of Thrones for a while?

I am quite confused by it all to be honest!

If you have a character that is north of level 25, you can jump into TTK quests immediately. You also get a boost item with the game that can shoot one character up to level 25 instantly.

No more Lannister voice. It's Nolan North from the get go.

Your only chance to hear Tyrion's voice is YouTube videos.

"The Taken King" as an expansion is part of the main game through the patch, it's just that you wont have access to any of it until you have bought the unlock key.

Also yeah, why isn't in this in Gaming Community?
