Devil May Cry 4 |OT| of daring to defy your savior

Running off of Custom Firmware
Well, if DMC4 and DMC3 are close enough where choosing the best of that pair is a toss-up, then Capcom did alright by us, I think.

Cool.

What's the consensus?

DMC4 > DMC3 > DMC 1 > DMC2?

or

DM3 still > *?

It depends.

DMC3 was the best action game of last generation, but it was too hard and paced incorrectly for anyone outside of 'dedicated action fans' to know this.

DMC4 is a bit more calmer, better paced, a lot more attention to new-comers, a functional tutorial, friendlier checkpoint system, easier (though not as easy as dmc2), and game design is a mix between atmosphere and combat (a lot like DMC1).

If you liked DMC1 more than DMC3, DMC4 will be your favorite. If you thought DMC3 was the best, then how DMC4 is - is up in the air. The reason I say this is because to appreciate the DMC3 elements within DMC4, you're going to have to play on SoS mode or higher. which is something I haven't done yet.

This is going to sound so stupid but DMC3 was a Ferrari that needed to be washed.

DMC4 is a porsche that is super clean and ready to go.

Personally, analogies aside I like DMC4. Nero is fun, Dante is predictably fun, and the enemy types in DMC4 are a lot better than the ones in DMC3.

Actually, every enemy in the game can DT now, if you take too long to beat them. It also happens in Devil Hunter mode if you can't keep up.

I just picked this up last night. The cutscenes that play after you choose "new game" are in engine aren't they? (I could pan and zoom them with the controller) If so, OMFG!

I love the Devil May Cry series. But Ninja Gaiden pretty much did everything DMC3 did, but better.

Better A.I., better level design, better controls, ect.

Yes. They are.

Does anyone find it strange how Kyrie looks like a super-hot stripper suffed into a princess' outfit? It can barely contain her chest and ass.

Uh, because I was fighting a mephisto (the floating black cloak guys) in Devil Hunter mode and it Devil Triggered :p And then I was playing Son of Sparda mode and a Scarecrow DT'd in the second mission :p

What were you doing that took so long in Devil Hunter mode? Were you taunting the damn thing to death for 5 minutes :lol

The game has been out for two weeks, even the DMC fans have been unable to come up with a concensus.

Oh and fucking Dante 2 fight was teh AWESOME AND EPIC!!! It resonated the feeling of fighting Vergil 2/3 in DMC3, epic shit!

The puzzles in this game.... OMFG!!!! :lol I just want to memorize the solution to these stupid ass puzzles so I can just breeze through them on DMD and SOS.

Other than that this game is awesome. I just got two new moves for Nero, Shuffle and Calibur. GREAT MOVES!!! And the Zangief suplex move on the Knights was fucking awesome!:lol But every fucking cutscene with Agnus makes me cringe because of his stupid stammering. I did however LOL when Nero made fun of his stammering. :lol

This is a game targetted at the hardcore male gamer demography, the aesthetic speaks for itself.

Yeah, I'm just saying it takes away from the whole sweet princess "i need to be taken care" spiel when she looks like a girl in kinky princess outfit starring in Devil May Porn.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Mission 10 now, really started to feel the burnout that others have mentioned regarding Nero. Yea, ultimately I'd rather they just did the same ol Dante and had the Devil Arm as a gun replacement or something. It doesn't help that I am vastly dissapointed by the cutscenes and narrative after the hilarity of DMC3.

Dante can't come soon enough and bring back the awesome.

I would say that DMC4's cutscenes are probably more so hilarious than DMC3. And I don't mean that in the bad way, the game is definitely geared to be a more fun experience even with the cutscenes. But Nero has some depth to his character wise, he is an endearing person like Shane said. Also the story moves at a very rapid pace, I am like on Mission#6and things are already starting to climax. Can't wait for that Credo fight, it looks epic as well.

Oh and no one is talking about the new moves that require a new input:

Back, Forward + R1 + Triangle. Both Shuffle and Calibur require this input (Calibur in the air). It's pretty cool and shows that there are more ways to incorporate moves into future DMC games, even for Dante.

I want to get that Enemy Step or whatever that is next to Enemy Hop (which is just rebound). Is that worth getting? I ask this because I have had to replay a few missions just to get some useful moves and the price hike is really taking its toll on me. Thank god for refundable moves.

I got the game on PS3 I got the collectors edition

I had to get it on PS3 for a few reasons

- faster loading
- Accomplishments
- True HD Sound
- Devil May Cry was Born on PS3
- I had a PS3 for 1 year and didnt own a single ps3 game
- its not a shooter so the ps3 controller is good for it

so yeah im watching the bonus disc now

I like Nero and Dante both now after finishing it. Nero seems like he gets badass later on,
Nero crushing the saviors face with his devil arm was badass, and that was the end of the game so he gets more badass in dmc5, i think hell be in.

YEAH FUCK YEAH
Credo is now my bitch.

This really is the DMC I know and love. I fail and fail and contemplate giving up, then suddenly it clicks and I succeed.

I upgraded the table topper thing to 3, but I dunno if I'm really doing it. I do notice that Nero evaded Credo's attacks better, but I can't tell if that was me getting the timing or the ability.

What does that ability look like when it's done right?

So far, I'd say DMC3 is still the best. This is on par with the first though.

why don't you just imagine that 3 frame preview it gives you going really fast? that's what it looks like LOL

Dear god I just fought the "boss" on Mission 10 and got my ass beat in Human mode. I won the battle but I had to use almost all my potions! :lol This is the first time I had to use my inventory of health the entire game. How the hell am I supposed to win at higher difficulties.

I find it interesting that the names of the main order all end in Angelo.

Like Credo Angelo, Agnus Angelo.

If Nero were to get that title... he would be Nero Angelo.

It's a shame that the game ends on kind of an open note because I think DMC5 has potential to really make the whole Nero Angelo/Vergil/Nero connection complete.

And this is SUPER BAD ASS!!!!

bet203.jpg

Vergil is fucking awesome!
:lol

This looks like something out of Berserk. The one eyed black demon in the back, and the pose with the sword. EPIC STUFF!!!

The Table Hopper moves let you evade up to three times, actually. So if you evade just at the right time, you'll do TH1 (the slide move) away from the attack, but then if you evade again, it'll continue the table hopper movement in any direction you press.

More life, larger DT gauge, better move selection, and the knowledge of what you're getting into will carry you.

You do it 3 times if you have it upgraded to Lv.3.

So all you do is press 'X' and left or right when the enemy you're locked on to attacks?
Yeah. You can press it again to keep the slide going and you can go into Sprint easily. This mechanic I would assume this would be ESSENTIAL for DMD play because it appears from Bebpo's impressions that the bosses come out with powerful large impact moves without much signal and you have to clear a lot of distance quickly. Table Hopper would be very useful in those circumstances.

God damn it I really, really want to play this game on the harder difficulties. I replayed Berial with Nero and I fucking owned him with the Devil Trigger. When you extinguish his flames, Devil Trigger and THEN perform Buster... that is when it becomes clear how Nero can be an overpowered maniac. I wasn't able to perform Exceed at that time but I would think that if I had done that it would've caused like half life damage to him for the total combo.

So if I'm playing Human mode now and beat the game, do I keep all my Proud Souls/moves/health upgrades if I play through again on DH difficultly? Sweet.

While I was playing tonight, I remembered this:

Wonder why they scrapped heroin-dante? too gothic?

Also, the cutscenes in this game just keep getting more and more ridiculous. I love it--it has more cheesy lines and over the top nonsense than an 80s action flick.

also, Lady must've spent millions on those implants and plastic surgery :lol I know people complained that she wasn't "hot" enough in 3, but man...just wow.

Of course, this is DMC. Standard mechanic of carry over stats. It pushes you to play on more difficulties than just your standard one because you actually want to see how far you can push your character's ability.

I didn't even realize it was more than one frame!

Well I guess I wasn't doing it. Was my reflexes doing all the work!

BTW I don't want to start any major arguments so I am going to say this as precisely as possible.

DMC4 makes Heavenly Sword look like the mediocre action game it really is. Even just with Nero's aspect of the combat. I can't believe I thought that game was like a solid action game once...

That's good to know as this is my first DMC. It makes the crazier stuff seem doable now. :D

well...yeah. I thought everyone knew that HS wouldn't deliver (read: be a good competitive action game like NG and DMC) after playing the demo. :lol

So I've pretty much been playing an 11 hour binge and I've almost finished Devil Hunter mode. Very much enjoying this game right now - it's excellent and besides absence of Vergil, I'm enjoying it more than DMC3, believe it or not.

I'm a bit unhappy about Gloria's implementation and where they took her character. I wanted to fight her at least as Nero before she was
revealed to be Trish
. That being said, I would've loved to fight either Trish or Lady also as Nero, somehow protecting Dante or something.

But yeah, I'm very happy with both Nero and Dante.

Just a quick question though - does Yamato / Dark Slayer have any other moves besides the Jump Slash, Judgement Cut and standard B, B, B combo? Also, can I use it outside of Dante's final mission?

I think there was another move in the skill list menu. Its usable at any time after he gets it too.

How do I get better at this game? I am better now than I was when I started earlier today, but I feel like I'm not going to be improving very much anymore.

I only beat the bosses in Mission 6 & 7 without boss weakening (but I did die twice). I haven't started Mission 8 yet, but supposedly the game gets harder part way through, and I'm worried I won't be able to finish Devil Hunter without monster weakening.

I beat it, wow, I really loved the endgame. So incredibly epic and awesome. Fantastic game through and through. 2nd playthrough commenced on Son of Sparda mode.

Just play even if you do get the enemy handicap penalty. Unless you're pulling S ranks all the way through thus far, there's no reason to let that hold you back. Once you've learned more aspects of the combat and have a larger life/dt gauge, you'll be able to go back and handle stuff easily.

ok so I just got an S rank with S,S,B..but I've gotten those before and only gotten A ranks, how does the ranking system work?

Using Dante is awesome.

I think having him ripped away makes you appreciate him more when you get him. Of course, the fact that he tears everything to shreds makes things all the better.

Oh my god
Dante shot Echidna and she fucking exploded for no reason
. I've been enjoying the story but feeling that it wasn't as hilariously over the top as DMC3, but that pretty much proved to me that the game is still governed by one single rule: what will happen will not necessarily make any sense at all, but it will be the most awesome thing that could possibly happen. I just want my former-vampire-bitch-lightning-guitar-scythe-that-shoots-lightning-bats now.
