Devil May Cry 4 XBL demo surpasses 1 million downloads.

I haven't played the game yet, but I'm loving the demo. If someone doesn't like the demo, fat chance they'll like the final game.

I did not like the demo, and almost did not get the game because of it.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma sold like shit though, despite the high scores, demo and a userbase unlikely to have already played it on Xbox. Made me worry about the future of the franchise, hopefully NG2 will do much better.

500,000+ for a three year old port is considered selling like shit?

I wouldn't get my expectations up too much on sales. I think the tolerance level for overly Japanesy fare is not too terribly high amongst $400+ console owners, at least in the US.

I haven't downloaded the demo yet, planning on doing it soon though. The game doesn't look like much is different from the last games apart from graphics. Surely more could of been done? :)

The time limit, obviously, and also the lack of great moves for Nero (Streak, Roulette Spin, Calibur, DT).

Streak was in the demo.

Its not like you had Roulette Spin, Calibur and DT during mission 2 in the game anyway. Infact, the demo IS mission 2 (minus the ice bit), so whats wrong with the demo again?

Isn't DMC4 getting a 60/40 split between 360 and PS3 in the UK, along with the top spot in the charts? I'm sure I saw that on Kotaku. That's unexpected really; I've not seen too many people buying the game, nor that many with it on my friends list.

I didn't initially, but I replayed Mission 1 and 2 a few times in order to S Rank them so it didn't take long to acquire all of them (not DT). I also guess if forcing people to run though an extended version of a mission in under ten minutes is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Well, Capcom showed some love and 360 owners are certainly giving capcom the benefit of the doubt.

I personally thought the demo was hard, and they should've put in a cut scene or two to really sell the game but....

...hopefully sales will be great.

For me , the demo is what made me get the game.
I had played Devil May Cry (1) on the PS2 years ago , and knew DMC4 was coming out sometime, but had no real interest in it.

But after playing through the demo a couple of times i preordered the game, and so far it has been awesome.

Pretty much the same, played DMC1 years ago for like 10 minutes, thought it was awful, never played 2 or 3, saw pics/movies of 4 and was impressed, always wanted to try DMC properly and it looked smoother than I remembered and the camera seemed better and it looked amazing. The demo came along and I was very very impressed, got the full game now and I'm still immensely pleased I did, though there are some damn annoying camera situations.

I hated the demo and didn't pick up the game because of it. Instant revving is button mashing bullshit and the sterile environments suck ass.

I thought the environments looked pretty good.

When I was picking up No More Heroes at Gamefly I saw a guy return Mass Effect towards his 360 DMC4 purchase. The guy working was like "WTF? Don't trade this in just for DMC it's a classic!".

True story :lol

That's exactly what I did. I traded in my Mass Effect (for $30) and Assassin's Creed ($18) towards DMC4 at Gamestop. Even tough Mass Effect was my GOTY of 2007, I just couldn't see myself playing it again (a 4th time, to be precise :D ) for a long time. I'm too busy with work and my Masters program. The funny thing is, the day after I sold it, I hear about the DLC :(

Hell the Rev thing is a bitch for me...anyone care to explain the timing? I have just been charging up my sword manually...at least while i was Nero.

Note this is my first DMC since part one.

For the normal rev, it's near the end of the swing. About when it's going to impact.

And that's why I'm laughing. You can't just button mash...well, I assume. I never try button mashing. To me, it's funny when somebody says "All you have to do is button mash." because if you resort to button mashing, you probably aren't that good in the first place and shouldn't be the one to pass judgement about how much skill something takes.

I can IR about 95% of the time. Working on the Max EX rev timing. That's more difficult. Me likey.

Pretty much
But it loses a place in a fanboy's heart then

It pretty much shows why Capcom is doing just fine with this gen, why SquareEnix is hurting just to get a game out of the door, and Konami seems to be banking half thier company on one game:lol

multiplatform isnt that big of a issue for me, im no fanboy.

the only reason when im against it is if they have to cut stuff out of it to port it, thats why i hope MGS4 will be using as much of the ps3 as possible, not saying the 360 is weak or anything but we all know they both have differences. MGS4 would run just fine on 360 but this is ia game that needs 100% optimizing on 1 console IMO. Otherwise im all for it.

This is an important game for 360. It's weird but if you really think about it, the PS3 has had two games in this genre (Heavenly Sword, NGSigma), 360 has had...none?

Unless you want to count Bullet Witch.

I'm really curious to see what numbers it pulls.

Conan counts doesn't it? Even if it was so so.

What? DMC4 runs and looks great on both.

You're right but how does doa3 do 1 million and ninja gaiden didn't?:lol Hopefully Ninja Gaiden 2 can reach the pinnacle.

sorry to go OT-- DoA3, like DoA4, benefited from being a high quality launch title compared to other launch games. I would guess that if NG and DoA were reversed, you'd see very high sales for NG (which would be the crown jewel of any launch) and lower sales for DoA--probably lower than what NG did in its spot.

On topic-- this is great news. I hope the sales reflect this.

Hell I have only played the demo and seem to have gotten the timing down to about 70 -80 of the time. It's just timing those who clamming that it's button mashing need to be beaten with a VCR cord.

you misunderstood me. I know it looks great on both, but thats more of an exception than a rule. Most multiplatform games suck on one or the other console.

Im looking at you, EA.

QFT. The key to success this gen for Japanese companies is multiplatform and Capcom has proved it. The days of one console ruling the world are over. The Japanese need to get out of this mentality.

But you used Kojima and MGS4 as your example. Are you comparing Kojima to EA?

so i guess you support EA if they made mass effect and or its sequels multi-platform? Maybe even bioshock? Ace Combat 6? .

Well, considering I was talking about Japanese games... Yes, I 100% agree that Ace Combat 6 should be multiplatform. So should Katamari. I think it's stupid that they aren't.

Again, Japan is just used to that one console ruling them all theory and they have had that since the NES. They need to get out of it and realize that different consoles sell in different countries and there is money to be had everywhere.

Capcom is the only ones that understand this. Support all platforms equally.

Oh yay... it's window-port time again?! Okay, my guesses for the "big" JP stuff...

Probably going to go multi imo...
-Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation (after 360 window)
-Beautiful Katamari (after 360 window... may hit Wii too)
-Final Fantasy XIII (after PS3 window, maybe in time for western release)
-Guilty Gear 2: Overture (after 360 window)
-Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (after PS3 window, likely saved for Subtitled release)
-Smash Court Pro Tennis Tournament 3 (after 360 window)
-Star Ocean 4 (day-and-date)
-Tales of Vespiria (after 360 window)
-Tekken 6 (after PS3 window)
-The Idol Master (surprised it hasn't already actually)
-Yakuza Kenzan (after PS3 window, maybe in time for western release)

Probably staying exclusive imo...
-Cry On (Gooch bias, likely MGS funded)
-Dead or Alive 4 (no point, sequel may go multi)
-Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 (no point, terrible game)
-Dead Rising (no point, sequel will go multi anyway)
-Final Fantasy versus XIII (Nomura bias, may help placate Sony)
-Infinite Undiscovery (MGS funding)
-Mobile Ops: One Year War (built around Live... may get a GFW port)
-Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire (no point, terrible game)
-Ninja Gaiden II (Itagaki bias, MGS funding/distribution)
-Ninja Gaiden Sigma (no point, Black's alreadly on XBL)
-Project Naruto (licensing issues)
-Time Crisis 4 (too expensive with Guncon3)
-Valkyrie of the Battlefield: The Gallian Chronicles (JP focused, little western interest)

...I left out downloadables, but I expect most (Nobi Nobi Boy, Pac-Man CE, REZ HD, Lumines Live, FF I+II Anniversary HD, etc) stay exclusive.

Didn't gaf already decide that all 3 of those are probably going multiplatform? Is it going to start all over again?

no, im saying that some games deserve to get 100% optimized for one console with no restrictions for that specific console. That game being a game like MGS4.

-Guilty Gear 2: Overture (too niche to matter, Arc will probably focus on other games for PS3)
-Beautiful Katamari (next incarnation perhaps, this one is not significant enough)
-Smash Court Pro Tennis Tournament 3 (not important enough)
-Idolm@ster (doesn't need to, and probably won't, with two games already)
-Cry On (Gooch bias, likely MGS funded)
-Final Fantasy versus XIII (Nomura bias, may help placate Sony)
-Final Fantasy XIII (Sony bags)
-Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Why should it leave?)
-Infinite Undiscovery (MGS funding)
-Mobile Ops: One Year War (who else wants it?)
-Ninja Gaiden II (Itagaki bias, MGS funding/distribution)
-Project Naruto (licensing issues)
-Yakuza Kenzan (no need to)
Fixed. And took out the games that are too old to be relevant.

And demo download counts don't say much... AC6 has shown that. Though Lost Planet has perhaps proven the opposite.
