It's a developer bottleneck.if it were a GPU bottleneck that just doesn’t jive with the numbers between quality and performance on both consoles.
Along with the fact that performance mode has all around lower settings, while still producing worse framerate drops compared to quality mode, normally that would indicate a CPU bottleneck, but that shouldn’t be the case at all here. There’s something in the performance mode that’s hogging too many resources for what it‘s doing.
A cross generational titles in no way brings out the power potential of an RDNA2 GPU or a Zen 2 CPU. The price of the XSS has nothing to do with its potential in games. It is miles better in performance than last gen consoles period. Seeing what was done on the other consoles it's clear this title isn't pushing any of the current generation consoles to their limits. You can only optimize code so much until you hit that physical hardware limit. In this case, 1030p@30FPS is XSS showing you what the power of a $299 console can bring you.
100% agree. Resolution the only area the X1X could potentially beat the XSS. Not MS or anyone else claimed the XSS would run higher resolutions than the X1X in the first place.Series S will outperform Xbox One X given proper optimization. It may not run at as high a resolution since that's less practical for its GPU, but it should be capable of producing a superior result nearly every time.
No they did not. They claimed the XSS has the same feature set as the XSX. Non Xbox customers are the only people making imaginary claims about what the XSS would do. MS also has no control over what a 3rd party does or doesn't do in a title. See games like MS Flight Simulator and the new Forza game to see XSS at its best.Yeah, no. Anyone playing this game on SS is not doing them a favor. Ughh.. Didn't MS mention that the difference between the two would be resolution :/?

DarkMage619 has entered the chatIf you were a goalie, and mention of series s was a ball, you would never give up a point. You’re leaving out vital info but let’s not derail from the issue which is the series s performance vs the flagship consoles this gen.
That…would not be a bad way of putting itIt's a developer bottleneck.
It doesn't sound good at all.1080p 30 fps for XSS , with graphical cut backs
They did yeh, Jason Ronald of all people.Didn't MS mention that the difference between the two would be resolution
this game perfoms way better on PC compared to consoles. PC graphics cards that usually perform in the ballpark of the consoles perform way better in this game than the consoles.
so something is up with these console ports
I guess if I look really hard at them side by side, I am noticing the grass, and the series S has an extra puddle on the left?Yeah, no. Anyone playing this game on SS is not doing them a favor. Ughh.. Didn't MS mention that the difference between the two would be resolution :/?
Yikes at that opening sequence on PS5 Performance mode. My 2060 Super gets ~71fps avg/63fps min at 1080p/Ultra settings for that sequence. XSX seems to do fine with a locked 60fps in that spot.

These consoles seems they should be able to push higher resolution at 60 I agree. But the good PC performances you see might also coming from the Nvidia tech focus on PC for this game if I'm not wrong (DLSS and RT).
I might be wrong but I feel the difference between games focusing on Nvidia or AMD on PC this gen are giving bigger differences than before. You'll find games with focus on AMD running above expectation on consoles vs. the PC running on Nvidia and PC games with Nvidia features running great while having average perf on consoles.
Just guessing here, I'm no expert.
Not really. It's a great looking game rivaling anything else out there.
Hmm, in that case, a good quality high sample count camera motion blur might help here. What do you think about TLOU2's 30fps on PS4/Pro?Well......I'm just a few minutes into the game. I started out in Quality mode and the lower frame rate is just hard to deal with. I'm with @ManaByte on this one. Performance mode for me.
Damage control much? Image on the right is substantially sharper. It's native 1080p/Ultra settings.the image on the right looks a lot blurrier. Is dynamic resolution?
Yeah, no. Anyone playing this game on SS is not doing them a favor. Ughh.. Didn't MS mention that the difference between the two would be resolution :/?

Not a knock at your post but when I look in the Ghost runner thread the PS5 version runs better because of x,y,z not because it isn't optimised.Just one sequence though. DF says the difference is "marginal" and they did wonder if PS5's was a version behind.
Yes that's a good call but is the resolution the same ? Would the black borders be back. Could they be bothered with even more optimisations. Takes me back to the 90's.50hz shouldn't be an issue for us Europeans - All our Tvs should support it natively.
Console manufacturers should adopt a 50 / 100hz output setting
This isn’t helping your case. The PC has multitude of possible configurations. PCs also have the luxury of better CPUs. Has anyone even done a benchmark with console equivalent CPUs?this game perfoms way better on PC compared to consoles. PC graphics cards that usually perform in the ballpark of the consoles perform way better in this game than the consoles.
so something is up with these console ports
ps4 and pro versions look decent there
For sure. I was just making a passing comment on the XSX, the main point of my post is that the PS5 is outperformed by a Ryzen 1600+2060 Super.Just one sequence though. DF says the difference is "marginal" and they did wonder if PS5's was a version behind.
The consoles fps are capped at 60fps which lowers their average. For sure. I was just making a passing comment on the XSX, the main point of my post is that the PS5 is outperformed by a Ryzen 1600+2060 Super.
The res and frame rate target, the settings they've chosen are all over the place on the new machines. I guess supporting 7 different configs of consoles will do that to you (8 if you include Switch).Explains the far too stark adjustment in grass density between XSS and XSX, they basically used PS4 /PS4pro settings on the XSS. Yikes.
Edit: Not saying that I don't get that more cuts were needed on the XSS, since PS5/XSX are only 1080p 60 (and the systems don't exactly handle that like champions), the 50% cut in frames alone wasn't going to cover the gap in hardware.
TLOU2 runs at 1440p 60fps on ps5 and it aint even a full port.
Resolution is the same globally these days - HDTV led the way with standards 1080p 2160p etcYes that's a good call but is the resolution the same ? Would the black borders be back. Could they be bothered with even more optimisations. Takes me back to the 90's.

That 53fps is a min, not an avg. PS5 is below the 60fps cap, at 53fps while the 2060S is at 65fps. It would be pointless to compare a segment that’s locked at 60fps. That’s why I didn’t include the XSX, only made a passing comment. The consoles fps are capped at 60fps which lowers their average.
So you're saying the console versions are just fucked up somewhere along the way.this game has 20% CPU usage on mid range zen 2 CPUs, the CPU is not the issue.
the game also runs very fast in entry level to mid range graphics cards. you can easily get 1080p120fps at ultra settings on low end to mid range PC GPUs
So you're saying the console versions are just fucked up somewhere along the way.
Maybe we'll get some patches down the line.

"Xbox Series S delivers the same next generation speed and performance that define Xbox Series X. It is similar in CPU and has the identical I/O performance as Xbox Series X, making it easier for developers to deliver the same great performance, while rendering at a lower resolution."
"The primary difference between Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S is in resolution."
that's what i suspected when i first heard the console specs. they're too strong actually.Hard to beleive devs are copy/paste PC nature of brute forcing to overcome bad optimization.
Primary does not mean ONLY. Where in that state did they 1) say every 3rd party game would look the same between the XSX and XSS? 2) the primary difference between the XSX and XSS IS resolution because things like quick resume, the RDNA 2 GPU and Zen CPU feature set ARE the same. They gave no mention of LoD, pop in or any other graphical tweaks that exist when you are playing a game on a device with a less capable GPU.Introducing Xbox Series S, Delivering Next-Gen Performance in Our Smallest Xbox Ever, Available November 10 at $299 - Xbox Wire

Not surprising. Developers in many cases simply aren't going to take the time to bring out the best in the XSS. The fact the more powerful consoles are running 1080p/60 should be the bigger outrage seeing how those consoles should be capable of more. The XSS talk is a distraction. Why is no one questioning the bigger consoles performance here? Perhaps a 3rd party developer isn't the best gage of what can be done on these machines.Explains the far too stark adjustment in grass density between XSS and XSX, they basically used PS4 /PS4pro settings on the XSS. if a standard, non-overclocked RTX2060 can run this at max settings at 1080p60, then it's odd to see the game strugle so much at 1080p with lowered settings

Uhhhh?
Its seems to be poorly Optimised, even a 1650 super stuggles to do 1080p 60fps

I think the key to the seriesS will be fully utilising the velocity architecture and new RDNA2 features. And for the most part Series S has delivered. It's matching Series X's quality mode in Forza Horizon 5 actually.
Sorry I meant left lol.Damage control much? Image on the right is substantially sharper. It's native 1080p/Ultra settings.
still tho, the 2060 runs it better than the PS5, that is not what you would expect.
it might not run well on PC either, but it seems to run better on equivalent PC parts than on consoles
Not comparable. Gotg is multiplatform.TLOU2 runs at 1440p 60fps on ps5 and it aint even a full port.
