DF - Doom Dark Ages PS5/PRO & Series S/X showdown.

The difference in average resolution during gameplay is almost as wide between PS5 vs XSX as it is between XSX vs PS5 Pro. Some captures begins to make more sense.
It's nominally larger. The Pro's resolution is 10% higher than the SX whereas the SX's resolution is 18% higher than the PS5's.

"Lazy developers" is not a myth in my opinion, they do bare minimum most of the time and in this case it's: "let's make HDR look good on LCD without local dimming"

This simply proves that all of these silly videos comparing different consoles are absolutely pointless because all they are doing is showing the difference in optimization the developer has managed on that particular game for a particular hardware spec.

In other words, a developer can make your favorite console win or loose the DF "breakdown" videos and they u go cry for no reason

Well fps drops are definitely unexplainable on both playstation platforms.
 
Have the devs responded to any of the complaints regarding the Pro's poor "upgrade" or the broken HDR??

What bothers me is there was specifically a trailer made with the game director hyping up the Pro version of the game. So to release it with barely any improvement over base consoles is just shitty behavior and almost begs the question of whether some bugs are affecting the game ...

It's noticeably sharper on Pro. The ground textures probably don't use VRS on Pro and it's quite sharper there. But everything else is also better defined on the Sony console, even sitting far away. No need for zooms.

VRS seems to completely destroy the texture details on Xbox. Awful stuff, really, but expected with that shitty tech.

There is also some aggressive geometry pop in on XSX, not seen on Pro.

Anyone else notice the game looking a lot better now on Pro after today's (or yesterdays) patch? HDR actually looks good now and the game looks sharper to my eyes

I would like to see a PSSR toggle option and why not a 120hz mode which uses it. But I doubt will ever happen.

Another disappointing Pro upgrade like Indiana Jones that does nothing with the settings. It's not even using PSSR.

I want something that shows unequivocally that the Pro console is a step above the base - not a $700 eye test.
I've had the Pro since launch and I'm waiting too. Even the "pro enhanced" games really aren't different themselves much at all.

I've been saying this for a long time now the "upgrades" we've gotten on this console are so much worse than anyone imagined prior to launch yet someone people act like they're great....yeah, there are a handful of good Pro patches but there are many more that do so little and even some, thanks to early pssr, that have worse iq than base ps5. I'm talking about Silent Hill 2, Dragons Dogma 2, Avatar off the top. There are many games that got pssr only and no other improvements- sometimes pssr actually made a difference but most times it was just a "side grade" where, if you really compare it to whatever upscaling it had before, its basically the same...maybe it'll look a tiny bit more resolved but then have its own artifacting from the crappy, early version of PSSR it used (Alan Wake 2, sw outlaws, gow ragnarok and many more).

Of course people will disagree and attempt to gaslight you for calling a spade a spade which is exactly what happened to me in the PS5 Pro dedicated thread. Pro owners and Sony fanboys would rather pretend that the Pro has delivered what most of us hoped it would than deal with the reality of the actual situation.

There are also a lot of games that never got Pro patches that we should've got like Plague Tale Requiem and Cyberpunk. If Sony cared about the consumer they would've secured these games by any means necessary but that's another topic. It's been such a frustrating console (and generation).

Hope is that the most demanding games in the future will show bigger differences (GTA...). So far many patches are very low effort.

Yep, disabling grain and a little bit of the sharpness (20, 30%) will definitely make the image look crisper.

For 3rd party studios as well? I don't think they can enforce that.

And thats the main issue. PRO would end up relying on third party because the lack of first party games this generation.

When even Cyberpunk is getting a NS2 version, but no PS5pro version. I guess Sony should reconsider a more investiment, maybe a reward program to help dev costs with PRO patches.
