[DF] Hitman 3 PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S Comparison

Starting at the top, Xbox Series X runs the game at native 4K resolution (incidentally doubling frame-rate and increasing pixel count over Xbox One X's 1440p). Just beneath this sits PlayStation 5, running at 1800p. Meanwhile, Xbox Series S aims for the same 60fps target, but this time the GPU is tasked with running the game at 1080p resolution. There's no dynamic resolution scaling from what we can see, but there is a smart pass of TAA anti-aliasing on all systems.

This starts with texture quality, where Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 run with the equivalent of PC's highest settings, up against the memory-constrained Series S, which opts for high quality textures instead.

Meanwhile, there are additional tweaks to shadow quality too. Series S uses the equivalent to PC's low quality shadows (in common with the last-gen base console renditions of Hitman 3), while PlayStation 5 runs at medium (similar to One X and PS4 Pro) and Xbox Series X operates at high. The difference is fairly subtle across all three, but it's there nonetheless

Put simply, it's 60 frames per second... with just one exception in our hours of play. In the Mendoza mission set in Argentina, it is possible to see Xbox consoles run between 50 to 60fps around a field towards the outskirts of the level, while PlayStation 5 remains constant at 60fps.

EDIT:

Regarding Ray Tracing:

Hitman 3 will support ray tracing on PC "later in 2021." Although RT isn't available on the release day, developer IO Interactive has stated that it will be added via a free update after the launch of the game.

Wonder if consoles will get a 4k/30/RT mode then?

EDIT 2:

@dark10x put up a vid today talking about the Glacier Engine and basically a follow up to yesterday's head to head.

Hitman 3 tech review: the Glacier Engine shines on next-gen consoles • Eurogamer.net

one thing that caught my eye

This is supplemented with a move to 8x anisotropic filtering, which is a nice step up from the 4x seen on the last-gen versions of the game.

Was kinda hoping NG versions of games this gen would use 16x AF universally, kinda surprised that isn't the case here.

MOD NOTE - DO NOT DELVE INTO CONSOLE WARS OR THE THREAD WILL BE SHUT DOWN AND USERS WARNED / BANNED

Wew finally Alex doesn't have to wonder where that extra GPU power went. Are you happy Alex?

Looks like a great looking game. Gonna pick it up on sale down the road for my PS5.

Impressive what they pull off without any RT. Reflections still look great.

This is in the OP

Makes you wonder why DRS isn't enabled across the board. Series X and PS5 would probably handle native 4K the vast majority of the time.

We back at resolution deosn't matter, framerate is king for this game? It's hard to keep up.

It's only going to keep getting worse from here. I love my PS5 but people are going to start realizing HARD that this thing on paper and in practice is weaker than the SX, Sony gave out dev kits much earlier than Microsoft which is the only reason launch games worked better. As devs get use to both kits it'll be evident that like people have been saying that the SSD doesn't do shit for graphics.

sucks that so many xbox fans bailed. they didnt get to see xbox make a comeback. sad to see they had no faith in their own console of choice.

p.s looks like the tools have arrived.

-Ultra textures on PS5/XSX and high on XSS.
-TAA on all versions.
-Shadow in high on XSX, medium on PS5 and low on XSS.
-60fps on PS5 & 50-60fps on XSX/S.
-No RT.
-Faster loading times on PS5.

The usual minuscule difference, this time in Xbox favour (PS5 also has better frame rate in a particular level).
I find more hilarious that when Xbox has an advantage someone feels the need to put it in the title :messenger_tears_of_joy: oh but hey it's a Thomas Morgan video/article.

On topic: I really want to play this game but I still have 2 wrapped from a BF sale. Game looks so damn good.

These threads drive me nuts :messenger_tears_of_joy: By the end of this year we'll have a definitive answer on which is better - I see no reason why that won't be definitively XSX, but minor differences early on in these essentially last gen games mean almost nothing either way. I expect Xbox to flex its muscle more and more as we go through this year, and this maybe a very early indicator of that at best, but it proves nothing conclusively. I do understand how annoying the Sony fanboys have been over recent miniscule differences, but's that's no reason to sink to the same depth.

4k 60fps for 99.99 percent of the time on the series, impressive, since they're not using all the rdna2 features yet.

PS5 upscaled 4K will probably be the norm for most next gen titles.

Why put a resolution advantage directly in the title (Xbox) and not a performance advantage as well (PS5)? Not trying to start a war, genuinely wanting to know
