Awesome OT, Cormack12! I've played thousands of hours of this game, but that was an age where I didn't do any forum visiting for it so I didn't know too much about it, I would just beat it and then get my ass kicked in Hell difficulty because my builds would suck or I didn't think about the immunities. So the new graphics, shared stash, and sites that can help with optimizing my builds should give a lot of new life to this classic. I can't wait!

For weapons I'd wait for the elite quality drops, for armor exceptional quality. Though personally I like to min/man so I'd wait for elite base armor too for runewords.

Yes but more substantial and rewarding.
Uniques, rares and even magic items are all used for end game.
They offer access to unique playstyles even unlike most loot based games that just increase x amount of damage/healing etc.

Yeah but loot is much more rare here but also more meaningful once you get drops unlike the amounts of in D3 where you salvage most of uniques.

I really liked the beta but the gameplay felt outdated vs 3 imo. I don't know if its just that its made for pc that it felt like that to me.

I am thinking of being a Barb just to stomp around and whirlwind everything. I used a Paladin in D2 ages ago. That might all change. My Barb in D3 is my strongest character. It might be overkill. I might try someone else.

Without Crossplay, my desire for this is pretty much not existing. The gang that wanted to replay this as a group is on PC, I have a M1 Mac and PS5, so I can't play with them. What fucking year is this... :/

considering there were no end-game builds in the beta and you really liked it, i have a feeling you would really fall in love with the end game.
There are so many unique and powerful builds to play.
builds like Lightfury, cold _ lightning socs, poison necro, duel dream tesladin, trapper, etc
So much depth, mind you diablo2 requires alot of work and time +magic finding to get those items that make the builds shine.
but for me, i would say it is totally worth it.
I honestly don't think you would be disappointed in a purchase.

I only decided to actually try the beta on the last day and I was just trying to figure the menus out. Ended up sinking in like 4 or 5 hours into it and was hooked on it.
Just really bummed about no crossplay.

Do you have palls to play with? Otherwise with cross play it's even more likely to get leechers taking all the loot or griefers killing you.

! I would have been posting in this thread sooner but I've been responding to all the personal emails and personal calls from fellow gafers all morning. Apparently people are really hyped!Depends on class and build, but in reality you'll likely be swapping your armor for upgraded armor you find for the majority of the very early game. If anything, I tend to throw some chipped/flawed gems in them early on (assuming they're socketed).
If you tell me your class I can recommend some early game rune words.
I mean, it's a 20 year old game so it's going to feel outdated. Personally, that's a huge part of the appeal for me.

The Wild West nature of the game is a huge draw for me.
Honestly as a long time d2 player, I've pretty much come to accept that if I'm playing with a party of several people I should just assume I'll get zero loot and be pleasantly surprised if I end up grabbing some nice stuff.
For loot, I just MF solo 100% of the time (either alone in a private game or join a game to increase the player count for better MF and go do my own thing)

Both summoner necro or paladin are great. Personally, summoner necro was the very first build I played and ended up being the build I played most.
MrLlamaSC just released a video yesterday where he ranks the builds based on which are the best starting builds. It's a great video for newcomers, I highly recommend it:

There are other viable necro builds but I know you specified summoner so I linked to that. Summoner is my necro build of choice for PvM anyways.
For Paladin, you have quite a few viable build options.
Hammerdin is probably the most popular. It is great for MF and is beastly all the way through Hell. My only criticism is that the play style can get old, but others love it:

Smite paladin is also a top tier paladin build but I wouldn't recommend it to new players. It's primarily function is killing Ubers and Bosses, hence why I recommend having a better grasp of the game first. Regardless:

Keep in mind you can respec 3 times through quests (one respec is given as a quest reward each difficulty). You can also farm for respec tokens once you hit the end game. So worse case if you don't like the build you can respec

I have like 5 or 6 friends on pc who are buying. On console maybe 1 or 2 at best. I'd really like to experience the game in 8 player coop tho.

Don't really like this genre of game but played the beta and it seemed fun enough. Should be interesting to play it later this week and see why so many gamers refer to this game as the second coming of Christ. Unfortunately, I'm boring and am just going to play it safe with a Cold Sorc.

I think most people who enjoyed the beta will have a blast with the full release. the game only gets better.
those who weren’t into the beta will likely be facing disappointment.
