Today has been AMAZING for me:

Guardian Angel
Titans Revenge
Facet (cold)
SUR RUNE!!!
Tal weapon 2/1/2
Nagelring 30%
Ali Baba
LO RUNE!!!

My orb ball sorc is doing fine in hell. On act 3 going smoothly. Kind of thinking of checking our a Respec with blizzard and fireball. Now I'm hearing just do pure blizzard. Hmm.

So i teleported through the entirety of act 2 on hell difficulty and then beat up Duriel. He would have been impossible to beat without full rejuvenation potions. What else could i have done with 90% lightning immune enemies? And even this wasn't easy since i would die in the blink of an eye in some situations where had to pick up relevant items in the midst of battle. Doesn't really feels satisfying to play like that. I hope act 3 will be different in that regard.

I still have my gear from nightmare and it shows.

Act 2 on HELL was the hardest by far for me, hang in there 👍
It was the hardest on Nightmare too. For a Barbarian with life / mana steal because none of the skeletons give anything, and they're all over the place. Especially with the summoners nearby. Not looking forward to encountering them on Hell difficulty again.

No doubt. I found you have to keep the equipment and stats updated or you'll be using way too many potions and dying frequently, especially against elites. Of course you don't always get the equipment you want, which means you might have to grind for gold (gambling), gems / runes (equipment upgrades), and experience. Throw on some tunes and have at it.

** Or you could do what everyone else does and farm bosses. I find that to be boring.

It is not all bad since i have some nice set items that are vastly better than anything i found as of yet. But it starts to show that some parts are outdated. I honestly haven't found anything useful. I found some good white armor and tried to get sockets into it with the cube but it is always the wrong amount of sockets.

Well Act V is throwing down another gauntlet for my Druid. The entire catapult area was easy but once I got to the caves, oh boy lol. Lots of physical immunes which I can slowly kill one on one but once an elite mob of them appears, no chance. Serpents slinging icicles are probably the biggest danger though, can melt through my health pool from a distance in seconds. I know I will beat the crap out of Baal, just need to get there (dreading the Ancients fight), the battle continues ⚔️.

When the enemies that Baal spawns also have immunities what then? Don't you need to kill them all to progress to the boss fight?

You are not giving me hopes. :messenger_grinning_smiling: Act 3 has some mean lightning immunities again.

Ancients fight was already rough on nightmare. But doable.

You know when I fought Baal on Nightmare he didn't spawn any enemies, was the easiest fight ever. Forgot about the various mobs he spawns *before* fighting him though, that will be tricky 😂.

I cleared the map once before i started to fight against the enemies he spawns and lured some of them into the farthest corners of the map to leaf them there and he spawned the next wave. Maybe this will be an option to consider.

So guys I'm like 6 hours in (first time D2 player), last chapter of Act I (Sisters to the Slaughter) and I'm trying really hard to like it, but I'm struggling. I hope I don't trigger hardcore Diablo fans, but to me this feels like a big step back compared to Diablo 3. The gameplay feels disconnected and slashing enemies feels meh without any impact. Big difference with 3, which is an absolute rush blowing up corpses with the Necromancer. I'm using a Barbarian. The environments and enemies up until now are all the same type and kinda boring. The story doesn't do anything for me (which is fine, Diablo is about looting and hacking) and dying makes you apparently lose everything and you have to get back to your corpse to get everything back (didn't know that before). The stamina mechanic is kind of annoying and eve more annoying is the limited inventory space. I'm constantly accidentally picking up shit (console) because that is mapped to the attack button. I'm constantly throwing away stuff and the good loot I got I can count on 1 hand. Like 99% is trash and can be ignored. It makes the grind not very much fun.

Is this game especially great for old time Diablo 2 fans, or should I stick with it for a little longer? Or am I playing this wrong perhaps?

If you don't like the core gameplay loop, and it sounds like that, then don't force yourself to play it. Some parts haven't aged that well compared to modern games but i love all of it.

Every class has many options in terms of their builds and each class feels somewhat different in itself. Try a different one and see if this feels better to you. In the beginning you can gain levels fairly quickly so that helps to try out classes. Each act has different environments but also a lot of similarities. The biggest contrast is coming from the various looks of the different acts. The hub changes, the music, the enemies. Try to play act 2 for example and see for yourself. Enemy variety has some repetition but it is also possible that you won't even see every enemy type on your first playthrough. Keeps later playthroughs a bit fresh. Same as for the environments. Check act 2!

I like the story. It could be deeper and there could be more of it but the way it is represented feels good. It doesn't matter that much anymore after your first playthrough.

In higher difficulties you also lose experience points upon dying. But most can be regained by getting back to your corpse. Put your money into your stash so you don't lose it! You can also quit the game and go back in and your dead body will be right in front of you. For stamina try to use the stamina potions or specific gear to extend it. I'm using a sorceress which can teleport and i completely forgot about stamina. At some point you will know what to take with you and what not. Your are not supposed to take every item that you find to a vendor. You can map each attack to an individual button of your choice. Just map your basic attack to a different button if you have problems! In terms of the aquirance of loot... it is all randomised. Sometimes you play 20 minutes and get the greatest stuff ever and sometimes you play 10 hours and get nothing worthwhile.

As an oldtime Diablo 1 and 2 fan i'm having a great time. Haven't played the game for, i don't know, 15 to 18 years and i still love it like i did before. But although i played Diablo 3 a lot i never loved it.

At least try a different character or respec yours to see if it makes a difference to you. To me it doesn't sound like that you are playing it wrong. Give it a fair chance and if you don't like it then that's fine.

Yeah it's mainly the gameplay that doesn't feel much fun to me. My stamina runs out constantly, the combat feels disconnected and has no impact. Diablo 3 just feels better to me in that regard.

I did quit the game and yeah my body was in the camp, but I did lost a huge amount of gold.

It's also to much inventory management. Diablo 3 let's you cary a lot more.

I can see why you think stamina management is annoying but try to see it as another component of an RPG. Sometimes you need to outrun enemies so you have to have a look out for that. It is a gameplay mechanic that adds depth. That is why you got potions for that. Stamina is also tied to character levels, the use of skills and the armor you are wearing for example. There is much more to it than: "Oh i can't run anymore!"

Again if you put your gold into your stash you won't lose it upon death. Also in my opinion gold isn't that important overall, later on.

Inventory management is cluttered with a controller, sure. The game was designed originally with mouse and keyboard in mind. There are however some nice shortcuts for the controller that make it more manageable. It is something you have to get used to if you want to keep playing. I'm at a point where half of my inventory is full with charms that give me advantages as long as i carry them. I don't care since i have more gold than i can carry and there are not a lot of things i want to take with me that i find. In the beginning you may take blue, yellow or gold items with you since they give you some good gold when selling. Later on you can expand your inventory with a specific item and even later you know what to take with you and what to leave. If you like it or not it is part of the journey.

Made good progress, took out Nihlathak and found the Frozen Tundra waypoint. Got lucky in the caverns with no physical immunes, had to face Projectile City instead, succubus fireballs, serpent icicles and - worst of all - gloams with their op lightning that can kill you in less than a second. Somehow made it through, glad that's over with, onward and upward, literally.

Looks like the game decided to choose the next class for me: sorceress. Just got the second piece (weapon) of Tal Rasha's set, by killing randoms in Act III Nightmare (plus a whole bunch of other items in the stash already).

Damage: 18 To 42
Required Level: 65
Durability: 50

20% Faster Cast Rate
+77 To Mana
+57 To Life
+10 To Energy
+1-2 To Lightning Mastery (Sorceress Only)
(Varies)
+1-2 To Fire Mastery (Sorceress Only) (Varies)
+1-2 To Cold Mastery (Sorceress Only) (Varies)

+1 To Sorceress Skill Levels (2 Items)

I might end up doing some Mephisto runs. Been going over Act III for some time now, lol. Since you're on Hell, maybe try doing Baal runs on Nightmare.
Not even there yet and with the immunities i wonder if i will be able to. I'm gonna find out soon.

Aren't you on Hell difficulty? I said / meant Baal on Nightmare difficulty, not Hell.
Yes i'm playing on hell difficulty and thought you meant Baal on hell. I did quite a lot of Baal runs on nightmare but i never got something character specific or better than i was wearing and it got a bit repetitive and stale so i moved on.

Damn, that sucks. I agree though, the bosses have way too much HP for that not to become boring. None of my equipment came from them either, lol. Or gambling. It's been all randoms.

Guess we've both just had bad luck.

Mephisto on nightmare gave me the orb i'm still using since it gives me a +2 to all skills with other nice things but other than that the best stuff came from the unique mobs. But i still have fun playing.

Finished hell difficulty with my assassin (online) last week, done dozens of mf runs but can’t do it anymore unfortunately, nostalgia worn off and now it’s horribly boring. Which also reminded me why I can’t handle loot based games anymore and Diablo 2 have much worse end game than I remembered.
What a shame! Because I was waiting many years for Diablo 2 remake but don’t want to play it anymore.
All that despite fact that 2 days ago I got BER rune from random mob in act 3 rofl (hell of course), will probably just give it to my friend.

I might have respecced into pure blizzard a bit early. Bit tough to beat hell Baals minions that are immune with my bitch ass Merc.

He's a act 2 might Merc. With insight and smoke. A steal skull helm or something.

I'm like lvl 83. Occy vipermagi lore.

I got a ko and ist rune maybe I can make a better runeword?

Found a 4socket monarch and rolled 35fcr on my spirit first try. Found it on a countess run.

Now back to hoping i find a Lo sur or a ber rune to make my armor lol

For those doing countess.. After hundreds of runs i must say.. its better to slow down and kill wats there instead of warping to her as a sorc lol the devilkin have given me far better drops in the last few days than she does lol Ohm, gul, mal. Everything in the tower drops from the weakest attacks, i find the fodder stacks up faster than cows if you arent doing enough damage yet to knock over cows like bowling pins

Found my second Gheeds charm, better roll than my first.

Interestingly it dropped from the exact same chest as the first. Tower cellerlevel 5, the room filled with gold on the right side chest closest to the door. (In the layout where the stairs has its own room)

Imagine that... another green (set) death mask just dropped from a random in Act III Nightmare. I said to myself "watch, it's Tal Rasha's mask", and it was! Now I have 2. Unlike some other pieces in the set, it doesn't require a sorceress to use, so I'll keep it incase I roll a Necromancer 20 years from now. Like everything else that's probably never going to be used in the shared stash.

Defense: 99-131 (varies)
Required Level: 66
Required Strength: 55

10% Life Stolen Per Hit
10% Mana Stolen Per Hit
All Resistances +15
+45 Defense
+30 To Mana
+60 To Life

If it makes you feel any better, none of the items I've picked up are useful on the current class. Maybe the game is giving me a sign that it's time to switch again, lol. Already rolled 3! Would like to see this through with the Barbarian. 🤷‍♂️
