Hi everyone
This thread isn't meant as a defense of the Russian government or as taking sides but rather to raise a question about Russian PlayStation accounts. I mean both accounts registered in Russia and those created elsewhere but use the Russian region
The situation feels very sensitive and worth discussing especially since many of these accounts have been active for years, Some users spent thousands of dollars on digital games only to find themselves locked out, What's striking is that Sony unlike other major gaming companies such as Nintendo, Microsoft, or Valve, took this extreme step, The others limited purchases of new games, and in the case of Microsoft and Valve, there were still alternative methods like redeeming digital codes or changing the account region
That means PlayStation users were the only group to have their accounts effectively stolen in broad daylight not because of any user fault but purely due to a political reason
This raises a serious question about the long term security of investing in the PlayStation digital ecosystem. From my perspective Sony has carried out one of the biggest acts of digital theft in recent years showing complete disregard for consumers and the money they've put into their accounts
Many Russian users have begun reporting mass account suspensions on PlayStation. This reportedly also affects accounts registered in other regions, such as Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and elsewhere.
