I think anything above 1080p is good. But that’s just me. But I think 1440p that’s gets reworked in a good way(clean IQ) at 30 fps is all I need for this generation of consoles.
In the vid and in first post u got all the info, game uses dynamic resolution scaling in fidelity mode(30fps) 1080p to 1440p( 1440p is +78% of pixels vs 1080p).

If u want more, pr0 console aka midgen upgrade gonna be needed, that 10,2tf ps5 gpu isnt some unbeatable juggernaut but by now akin to midgrade pc gpu.

Rx 6700xt, so this one, 340$ on newegg https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xf...x-6700-xt-12-gb-pulse-video-card-11306-02-20g is better in every way from ps5/xsx gpu's and just look how it stacks up vs current top pc gpus, both from amd and nvidia https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-6700-xt.c3695 its avg performance graph from many games.

I believe some outlets had problems with not enough of what racists refer to as “people of color” in the game.
The games media had a stick up its ass about FF15 for having too many dudes. It means nothing. In fact, I expect a lot of malding when this game breaks franchise records.

Has nothing to do with laziness and calling devs lazy needs to stop. Most likely it’s a limitation of their engine which appears to be a modified version of the FF14 engine. It’s not really designed for this type of game.
I'm sorry, i'm not gonna call devs that don't upgrade their engines to offer a good quality and perf mode like other devs do lazy anymore, i promise...

Especially when the game even has the nextgen 10 euros tax and it cost 80 fucking euros in europe, this is not a small indie studio and the game is not priced 30-40 euros.

Lazy people exist in any other workplace but videogames seems the only place where you can't say that a duck is a duck, they must be all eagles...

You know what i think i'm still gonna call a shoddy work for what it is, you can lower your standards and being ok with it if you want.

So how do you explain other games looking on par or better and having locked 60 modes? (With one of them being a big open world game)

Ff16 is not the right game to push pro consoles (and i'm the first one who want a pro console), it just show how lazy some devs are.
Some games do look better, some look much worse, ff16 devs arent sony first party studio to get max out of ps5, maybe they can only get 85-90% , despite making the game exclusive?
U can tell those devs are solid both graphics and overall gameplay quality wise if u compare them to other exclusive from square, aka forspoken, or many bad multiplats, to not look far gotham knights or saints row woke reboot, those games trully play and look terrible, all 3 current gen only :)

Not a good enough excuse, sorry.

I'm paying the game as much as sony titles with nextgen tax, i expect the same level of performances.

The game is also a timed exclusive so we can safely say that ps5 hardware was the one they focused on, or at least this is what appeared from their pr bullshit tweets about the immense power of ps5.

No, it does not, that is the question. In this case FFXVI is using the same internal resolution (even worse because it locks to 720p in combat) than StarWars. The difference is that SW uses FSR2. SW with FSR1 could work at 1300p-1080p although surely with abundant Shimmering and a less attractive final image than 1080p-720p FSR2.

P.S. Any other technique requires resources in fps. FSR1 is free (practically a sharpening filter). There is the surprising thing about this case.

In the absence of dedicated tensor hardware for AI upscaling, FSR (2) is probably the best we can expect on consoles this gen, for games not using Unreal 5 and its built in TAAU.

I fully understand how u feel, in that case gotta wait about 1,5 year for ps5pr0 and game getting pr0 patch or hopefully around the same time, maybe bit later or sooner, pc port(and make sure u got top notch rig by then, aka 2500$+) if u want all 3- game having stunning visuals, high res and stable 60fps, on ps5 u can only get max 2, sometimes even one of the 3 ;X

I'm just going to set the game to Performance mode and try to let it bother me as little as possible because it's Final Fantasy. I'd wait for a PC version for most other games in this scenario.
 
I wonder where all the "give me 60fps or your game is trash" people who were trashing Starfield went. The concessions made to get this game running at 60fps only a very small portion of the time is just not worth the cost at all.
Yes... those concessions were "worth it" especially when the conclusion at the end of their tech review is still this... "Final Fantasy 16 is a beautifully crafted, visually stunning series entry that arrives with gamers in a polished, bug-free state"

In the end, despite those concessions... it still looks great, according to DF. I haven't played it yet, so my take is on hold.

I told all you fuckers (regarding VRR):

Here are the facts:
  • PC gamers have been using it and enjoying it for a decade.
  • However despite that VRR's existence has not prevented PC gamers from seeking better performance with each new generation of CPU's and GPU's.
  • Nor has it stopped or prevented the pursuit of honest and factual benchmarking. Show me a review (from a reputable outlet) for a GPU or CPU where less or poor performance is brushed off with "but VRR".
  • VRR exists to help smoothen the experience when there are minor and infrequent drops in framerate - it does not exist to smoothen out sharp drops or wildly inconsistent framerates.
  • Hence PC gamers still seek out optimisation where possible - hence games with good graphics options that actually scale are widely praised - this allows people to get stability at a particular target framerate. You will not see people just haphazardly cranking up resolution and settings and then hoping VRR will work miracles.

So in summary, VRR is not new. Those of us who have used it before the advent of HDMI 2.1 understand it's benefits and what it's capable of.

And this is a prime example. Because the drops on PC are so severe, even VRR is not helpful. In an ideal world where the PC version doesn't have the severe stutters and hangs then this doesn't happen. Or are you going to tell me that even if the PC version didn't have the ridiculous issues that it has then the Series X version is still a better overall experience?

Sad is stating VRR as a "performance gain". It improves the overall experience in instances where it's not possible to hold a target framerate but a "performance gain" it is not.





Now let's get these pro consoles ASAP and end this nonsense so that we can have the option to enjoy all games in the best way possible.

There is only so much u can put into 500$ machine that launched in nov 2020, pc tech already progressed far beyond that, especially that we dont have console factor limit and instead of 220W tpd like on console, our topend pc can easily pull 600W and still stay quiet and cool, really hard to cheat physics :D

I don't think Japanese developers and their technical prowess (I use that loosely and with sarcasm) is any indication of the end all be all with their first foray into UE5. It will improve in time.

The Coalition and the like I think will have a far better technical/performance achievements with the engine.

40 FPS in a 120 Herz mode were fantastic. But the Demo in 30 fps was really smooth to me, the motion Blut Helms a lot

I’m sure they did, that doesn’t mean they went out there and said “Hey here’s Decima, make your game”

With Final Fantasy XV they made a huge deal of developing in house tech that would push visuals and the end result was what we saw.

Tech details don’t change what most people saw during the demo, which is great visuals. Apparently they have poor tech in many areas, and that’s worth saying, and the game doesn’t exactly look state of the art but it looks great anyway just like Starfield looks great despite the awful looking character models and animation.

I could buy the game on pc in a year or 2 but i'm first and foremost a videogame aficionado and waiting years for a game i want to play is ludicrous for me, it is the equivalent of a baseball fan watching matches a year later.

It doesn't mean that i'm gonna stay silent if something rubs me the wrong way, this is what forums are made for.

See here's the thing... some week's DF is "a good source" and other week's DF is not "not a good source." It all seems to come down to whether or not DF said something good, or bad, about a game a person "likes" or "feels strongly" about.

I take DF's analysis as a fun tech breakdown. If I had intended to buy the game initially, I go and see for myself. Just like game reviews, I like to see them, then I go and see for myself.

FW's performance mode was rough at first with horrible image quality. It was subsequently updated and now looks acceptable.

I hope they can increase the image quality of that game. 1200p upscaled to 4K would be awesome but I ain't holding my breath for that big of an improvement in performance mode.

VRR isn't useful if the metrics aren't in the VRR range, the feature itself is not the issue. The feature is great for response and removing judder.

The game would need to be above 48hz on PS5 for it to be VRR viable in the first place.

If this is what the next few years hold, same man.

But I just wish devs would start building their PS5 games for 60fps standard.

Even if that means compromising some particle effects, draw distance, etc.

This performance mode was definitely an afterthought.

If The Last of Us 2 can run at native 1440p, 60fps, I don't see why this cant?

I'm guessing this game has a much larger open world? Because the character models certainly don't look better than TLOU2.
 
1080p-1440p using FSR1 to 4k at a near rock solid 30fps for quality mode.

Performance mode is significantly rougher, 720p-1080p with drops to 30fps. Combat is usually 60fps but resolution is 720p in that mode, but the larger Eikon fights still drop to the 30s.

I'm certainly going to play this in quality.
Man looking at the game in Perf mode I could tell something was very wrong... Quality is so choppy tho... :(

Not sure what's going on but the demo performance mode doesn't look like 720p to my eyes... it looks sharp and nice, not saying DF are wrong but it doesn't looks bad at least the demo isn't.

That's what John recommended as well. Just start the game IN quality mode and don't look back lol.

If you switch from Performance to Quality, you'll feel the shift. Just don't be tempted by Performance in the first place and you'll have a good time :p

FSR1 doesn't reconstruct the image. It's mainly sharpen + AA. There is no reconstruction technique in this game currently. It's FSR1 (sharpen filter) + TAA and then upscaled by the default GPU bilinear upscale (it's bad).
