I did not expect this level of detail in the environments being a Japanese game.

Not only are they ok with it, but the narrative now is also that all devs should enable a "performance" mode option, even if it means frequent dips to the 30s and screen tearing galore without mentioning native resolutions we haven't seen since the PS2 and Xbox era.
There is no screen tearing, unless I missed that in the video?
adamsapple adamsapple Was screen tearing mentioned? I skipped straight to the performance part and didn't notice any.

But it isn't locked at 60. It's "often" at 60fps according to DF, but it drops to 720p to obtain a frequent 60fps during battles. It's never locked.

Yeah, I think they did mention that it drops in large Eikon battles. The resolution is atrocious.

Resolution sucks by the numbers. But I played the demo last night for 3 hours and it looked pretty damn good IMO.

Played the demo as well and it definitely looks better than numbers would suggest.

Looking back, I played FFVII:R and FFXV on console and loved both of them. PC versions are way better but I never ended up playing through them a second time and don't regret playing through them on console.

Same thing will probably end up happening here, it's just a bit of a shame.

This is a ridiculous comparison. If you don't spoil the story, what difference does it make when you play it?
It's not about spoilers, it's about waiting a whole year to try something you like and you are hyped for, this is the only reason why i still have consoles, as an avid player i can't fucking wait 1 year or more to play games i like.

An hardcore baseball fans is not gonna wait a year to see how the team fair, how the players perform, enjoying the rivality with other teams, the bar talks etc. (basically the reasons why people follow sports in general).

I really dont want to play this game at 720p.

And I really dont want to play it at 30fps.

And I cant wait a year for PC.

God fucking damn it I dont know what to do here.

I wish I could hit myself with the Men In Black memory eraser pen and just forget it existed for 12 months.

I'm honestly confused. Maybe you just want to play it now that it's hot and there's hype around it so you can talk about your experience with friends / online? If that's the case, I get it. If not, I'm honestly lost.

Times like this I’m so glad I’m not oversensitive for graphics.

I simply I liked what I played from the demo and I want to play it as soon as possible, so my choice is simple, day fucking one!

No, it's because i like the game and i'm hyped for it, being hot and talking about it in the forum is just the icing on the cake (but still a minimal part), not sure why you are confused at all.

If it wasn't clear, this is one of my goty candidates, the demo being so good didn't helped at all with being reasonable:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I'm glad they got it about as polishes they could I just got done with the video. I hope this game does incredibly well because what they have shown gives me a lot of nostalgic Vibes similar to The final fantasy 7 launch. Something about it just feels pretty classic and I guess I don't consume myself with a lot of these Japanese RPGs but clearly as a game it looks like they nailed it.

Proformance mode looked good enough for me in the demo. Give me the frames baby!

Another crime the designers made with this game. Having the Story Mode (one button press) as an option. At that point, why even play the game. Just watch a recap on youtube.
For the reviewers.

I was including the other parts. Using pcpartpicker and Newegg gets you everything you need. Sure the case and such is cheap, but it works.

I would never save on a good case, psu etc. Realistically I would say you would pay like 1.5k if you buy half decent parts.

A 40fps mode would at least be nice.
Either way the performance mode is disappointing. I'm not really seeing a big enough graphical evolution from last gen for games like this and Jedi Survivor to run this poorly

Ray tracing is the culprit.

Ok... not gonna comment too much on what's going on in this thread... but I have a sincere question.

I am assuming most that are talking about the performance mode alternating between 720p-1080p before upscaling also have a PS5.

I am also assuming we all played the demo.... yes, there is actually a demo. I know only ONE poster that talked ad nauseam on the performance mode, about it having an inconsistent framerate... Now how many of you knew that it also had a native internal resolution of 720p before this DF video? How many people said it?

Exactly.

Interesting discourse here. I personally feel they nailed optimization by offering the choice of performance and prioritizing 60fps during combat. It's probably why I didn't notice the resolution drop. This is what optimization is all about. The game is beautiful and John's hypothesizing of RT shadows makes sense. Whatever lighting and shadow techniques they are using here is very much appreciated and often puts premier Sony first party titles with 4k/60 profiles like Horizon and GoW to shame, especially with the setpieces. I will gladly dump the less flashy resolution and performance numbers for graphically stunning sequences.

Ray tracing is the culprit.

If so, it was very well worth it.

The real crime with performance mode is SquareEnix's decision to use FSR1 over FSR2. Playstation 5 fully supports the two options.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor uses FSR2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and still looks terrible when used for its Performance mode because the base resolution it is being upscaled from is too low. 720p to 4K looks mediocre even on PC with anything except DLSS, which is a hardware AI upscaler and superior to anything AMD offers. Even then DLSS works best at 1080p for 1440p resolutions and 1440p for 4K resolutions... and fixed not dynamic resolutions.

The problem is the consoles are stuck with AMD's inferior upscaling software because they use AMD GPUs. TAA upscaling is better than FSR1 and the game could have used checkerboard rendering at 1440p or even 1800p with a final TAA upscale resolve, which is what Horizon: Forbidden West uses, I believe. Horizon: Forbidden West arguably looks as good, if not better, than Final Fantasy XVI in my opinion so it is disappointing that the image quality is so lacklustre in Square-Enix's game. This is supposed to be a PS5 exclusive for now, built to take advantage of the hardware.

Of course, Forbidden West also launched with issues to its Performance mode so we can only hope that the developers also improve this in Final Fantasy XVI with future patches on PS5 as well.

I think there were a fair number of people who commented on the frame rate drops and the IQ becoming even softer during combat in the various threads. That being said, of course a lot of people wouldn't know the accurate pixel count because most of us don't do pixel counting. eg we wouldn't know if something is running at 1296 if the upscaling makes the IQ appear good at a glance.

So another "reviewer" that just equipped all the easy-mode timely accessories complaining that it was too simple\easy? Fuckin smoothbrains man

The easy mode timely accessories allow full combos with just square, that video is just basic attacks, also the dude is spamming the shit out of R1 with his index finger. I don't think he's using the timely accessories.

720p? Should we throw out our ps5's?
Where are all the series S haters, shouldn't they be in here too?

But anyhow, a bit disappointing considering the machine. Still the game is great, will be buying it soon.

Genuinely cant believe the first few games launching that are actually next gen and they are 1080p 30FPS and 720P 60 FPS...we got fed bullshit this generation and fell for it hook line and sinker...absolutely no difference than any other generation.

I wish this was out on PC tomorrow, it absolutely sucks that its exclusive

It's dynamic, but yeah it's kinda low. FSR1 is shit. If they are using RT shadows, I would like to see it with/without it.

Not all performance modes are made the same unfortunately. If I remember correctly, HFW was not running at native 720p and reaching 30fps during intense encounters. If gameplay locks to 30fps during a boss battle in the performance mode, then there is literally no point at all to utilizing it.
Did you even watch the video? During combat it remains locked at 60.

If PS5 is droppin to 720P during combat then SS would drop to 360 or 240P lol.

I would contend rather that its just showing some poor programing skills vs the hardware being poor based on other games we have seen. Same goes for 480p games on S.
