Hopefully the PC version doesn't have tons of issues like most PC games that aren't made by 3 people.

So John states that if you have a 120hz VRR display he recommends Fidelity Pro mode with framerate cap disabled. Gonna try it.

Edit: Already mentioned on here.

So same performance and resolution in both modes, performance mode at 1440p with PSSR and quality mode with a couple of slight raytracing improvements but capped at 30 fps.

$699... yikes!

The fidelity Pro mode DOES drop below the VRR range at times and the result is that it doesn't feel nearly as smooth as the Performance Pro. The resulting IQ advantages of fidelity are pretty subtle and not very noticeable during actual gameplay. Even if you're looking for them, they're hard to spot. Fidelity cool to check out if you have the proper TV but no question the Perf Mode is the better playing mode (coming from someone who has only played Spiderman games in Fidelity modes).

not a big difference between high vs medium RT settings really.
40 fps is best here , highest settings at a good framerate ftw

Ratchet and Clank performance numbers are pretty impressive. It’s basically all the RT features bar one at higher settings like the PC release and is around ~1800p upscaled to 4K via PSSR. I think that is around the ~4070 performance level, maybe even a bit higher. Much better showcase then basically everything else, but that is to be expected from the premier development team at Sony.

Ratchet is basically double the performance with quality features. Savage. Too bad Insomiac games are narcoleptic to me.

I also preferred to performance pro mode over the fidelity mode. Though maybe dropping the medium on RT would make it feel smooth enough.

Pretty sure I'll be sticking with performance modes on my Pro. Even the difference between like 70-80 and 55-60 fps feels massive.

Doesn’t the unlocked VRR for Insomniac Games enable LFC as well? Should always be in the VRR range then. On a 120hz panel that is.

Aren't there too many settings even for the "Pro" players?

We are approaching the moment, when we shouldn't start playing, until DF have tested the game and found the best mode!

Ratchet underperforms on GPUs below 16GB. Vram limited cause big performance drop on that 4070.

Instead dealing with issues on PC, buy a PS5 Pro.

No Way Do Not Want GIF

I need my 144 fps (yes peasants, you can run games above 30 fps)

So Ratchet basically a locked 60 on fidelity on a 120hz uncapped VRR TV. Although spider-man 2 but a bit less. Maybe turn down RTAO down a notch can net 3 go 4 frames which make it close to ratchet performance.

Yeah I didn’t spend £700 on a console to play games at less than 60fps. Pity the performance mode is not much improved. I have a worrying feeling that developers will use the extra pro power for 30fps/fidelity modes, instead of the performance modes.

  • Insomniac's Technological Push:
    • Insomniac, a leading Sony studio, is known for advancing PlayStation features. They've been an early adopter of technologies like 40 FPS output for 120 Hz screens and extensive ray tracing on consoles.
  • PS5 Pro Upgrades:
    • The studio updated their PS5 titles for the PS5 Pro, adding Sony’s new PSSR (Pixel-Scaled Super-Resolution) for enhanced image quality and extra ray tracing (RT) options.
  • New Display Modes:
    • On PS5 Pro, players have distinct "Performance Pro" and "Fidelity Pro" modes. Fidelity aims for 4K resolution with better detail, while Performance targets 1440p for smoother gameplay. PSSR improves text readability and stabilizes images in both modes.

  • Ray Tracing Enhancements:
    • The PS5 Pro introduces features like RT Key Light Shadows (for distant sun shadows), high-resolution RT reflections, and RT ambient occlusion (for subtle contact shadows), enhancing depth and realism.
  • Dynamic Resolution and Frame Rates:
    • PS5 Pro supports various frame rate options, such as 30, 40 (for 120 Hz VRR displays), and uncapped modes. Fidelity mode maintains a stable 30 FPS, while uncapped performance mode can reach 60–70 FPS on a VRR display.
  • Draw Distance and Reflections:
    • In Fidelity mode, players experience improved draw distances, added reflections, and higher detail at a distance. Reflection quality on glass and water surfaces also benefits from the new ray-traced effects.
  • Performance on Ratchet & Clank and Other Titles:
    • Other Insomniac games like Ratchet & Clank have received similar upgrades on PS5 Pro, with improved ray tracing, PSSR, and enhanced performance averaging 50–60 FPS with ray tracing features enabled.
  • Player Choice and Flexibility:
    • Insomniac's updates emphasize user-adjustable settings, providing players with performance or visual fidelity options, demonstrating a commitment to user-friendly, high-quality gaming experiences.
  • Impact and Takeaway:
    • While the upgrades are not revolutionary, they elevate the visuals and performance significantly, setting a benchmark for other developers to follow in implementing technical enhancements for mainstream games on new consoles.
