All valid points; but will Rockstar actually come forth and say which will be the definitive platform based on "all of the above"?
I don't care about exclusivity regarding DLC - I want to know when RDR2 launches, which console to buy so I can play it to it's utmost potential - since I do not own either a PS4 Pro or an Xbox Scorpio.
I will buy the platform that RDR2 will run the best on as a console game.
Tell me, if the Pro was coming out next year instead of last year, would you be here calling the Scorpio half assed because it isn't as powerful as the Pro will be?
One of the biggest games in the world is native 4K on pro, there's plenty native 4K titles in pro and some of the techniques used to get to 4K even df say look almost native at times.
The Scorpio isn't strong enough to run everything at native 4K.
Well whatever theory you are referring to isn't reality. It is in theory, at Xbox One quality and framerates.
That will be by developer choice. I'm talking about hardware capabilities. The PS4 Pro's hardware is not enough to run 4K games at PS4 quality and framerate. The Scorpio (theoretically) is.
Going by the one screenshot we have, it does look a bit bad though.
edit:
The image I mentioned. Give it some proper AA and there goes the 66% GPU utilization.

You are setting yourself up for disappointment.how can it not?
Literally will max out any non VR game in active development at 4K probably.
Not to mention gameplay at 1080p will open up more resources
hard to make a game that would run slower than 1080/60 on this thing

🤔I think this will be a great, really powerful console (I own both PS4+XBone) that will be a waste of time and money becuase of:
- PS4 parity from EA, Activision, Ubi etc.
- XBox One parity (no games exclusive to Scorpio)
- lack of MS investment in 1st party IPs (Scalebound cancelled etc.)
It is up to MS to prove me wrong of course. I think they would win big if they showed a Scorpi exclusive title but looking at PS4 Pro it just ain't gonna happen
Will this be the ultimate 1080/60 box? That would be naaaaaais.
This is a ridiculous expectation to have. Why don't you just relax and wait and see, rather than set yourself up for disappointment. This machine isn't going to run many games at 1080/60.
It's $399. This will not sell a dollar over the PS4 Pro no matter how good the hardware is.
should point out I'm not even a certainty to own the thing.
the raw numbers are huge, hard to see 60fps not becoming a lot more achievable
granted many older games are specifically coded for 30fps
A 4K-marketed machine that is not powerful enough to render games in native 4K nor has playback for the only 4K physical movie format is half-assed to me.
Other small things like downsampling on a system level make it also seem more thought through.
Doesn't matter if it's successful (do we even have data on the ratio of slim vs pro?)

Does 4k really need aa?
Well if that screenshot is anything to go by then yes.
That said when im going native 4k or downsampling on PC I don't normally need AA so not really sure whats going on with that pic.
I appreciate that was only thrown together a couple of days ago though.

Because graphic sells, frames don't in the console market.60fps is almost always doable with the right sacrafices... Now whether a developer wants to aim there or not is a completely different question altogether. A lot of them don't.
The Scorpio isn't strong enough to run everything at native 4K. Devs will make choices yeah, just like they do for every system.
Right. But it will sure as hell run a lot more things at 4K. And with better textures. Why are we pretending this is not a thing?
4k via reconstruction has shown itself to be highly effective, and considering consoles are naturally limited in power vs high end PCs, that seems like an efficient approach. If MS goes native 4k that'll be a waste IMO
Both systems are similar. The biggest difference is the marketing messaging behind both. Sony more protective of the core PS4 as it is doing so well, so pro had a slightly softer marketing message. MS have nothing to lose so they're going all in on pushing this as a huge leap in performance.
i find most of those 399$ comments pretty naive if you ask me...like seriously guys this thing is 499$ and its fine if it is.
Unless some of you think that MS created Scorpio just for bragging rights and willing to lose money, and not as a proper business model. Come on...
Richard Ledbetter has stated several times that this is the Premium option, whereas the S is the value option.
He believes there is less overlap between the Xbox One and Scorpio users than there is on the PS4/Pro. It's going to be pitched as the hardcore option, for the people that really care about this stuff.

Question is does ps4 pro go to 299 and ps4 199.
Does 4k really need aa?
Name some things that significantly increase the price compared to ps pro?

UHD drive, cooling, Memory, the whole R&D process (MS certainly spent more than Sony on this regard) and I am sure other things as well...
Why is everyone acting as if 499 is unreasonable all of a sudden? Hell, even DF guys (who we are considering pretty knowledgeable of these things) suggested 499$ as the price tag.... and remember they had an exclusive showing with MS and I am sure MS was provided with a draft of their article/video prior to them going public.
Also, you should take into consideration the fact that MS themselves marketed Scorpio as a high end hardcore console machine, implying that it aint gonna come cheap. Thats the company that launched with a 499$ XB1 system.
All in all, I think 499$ is pretty damn reasonable and an amazing price for what you get.
The fact that Sony still won't bundle with the Pro tells me that they're either breaking even, or have a razor thin margin on the Pro.
Hoo-doo, the jaguar is evolved!Come on, this thing is perfectly capable of launching at 399$ this fall, same price point the PS4 Pro launched at last year. The hardware really doesn't command a 499$ pricepoint in any way.

That screenshot performance of Forza is masterful PR. You have a one (ONE) screenshot of one game in one situation with FPS,GPU and memory usage. No video, no other game and people already project those gains to other games thinking it will be simillar.
I think it will at 1080p. 4K 60FPS for most games doesn't seem likely.
