I think this move shows they are still out of touch with the western market as ever
Which seems to keep them alive compared to every other Japanese video game developer & producer....

I don't know, but i'm sure that's a HORRIBLE naming strategy.
I thought the whole Wii U thing had taught them a few thing, but apparently they still have one or two things to learn.
Sooooo confusing.
This is the biggest problem with the console.
Another WiiU name.
When you say "hey man did you see that new 3ds", it doesnt sound like its a revision. 2ds was a stupid name and all, but new 3ds is right up there with the WiiU. It probably wont be nearly as confusing for people, but its still a bad decision.

Why? They've done it before, just on the case put "Only For New 3DS". Worked on the Gameboy Color and DSi, why will it be so much more difficult for the New 3DS?If the NN3DS gets more than Xenoblade it will be a clusterfuck trying to explain it to consumers.
Hey man did you see that new Gameboy called the Gameboy Color?
What about the new DS.. the DS Lite?
The shit doesn't change. Why are people assuming that Nintendo has ever been any different?
NES... SNES.. Go Bingo.
If hemorrhaging money is alive, I don't want to know what you think dead is
"Super" Nintendo Entertainment System to me sounds like it would be something new and more powerful.
DSLite - indicates that its a slimmer version
to where as
WiiU - tells me.. its a wii.. but its for u? wait.. is it for me? i made this? i made this.
New Nintendo 3ds - ???????
I totally understand the feeling of the millions who feel left in the dust for this
I guess I don't undertsand it.
Why not just focus on a new, much better handheld instead?
Well on one hand you have Smash Bros, Pokémon, Codename STEAM and Xenoblade. And on the other you have... what again?I'd say they're treating them pretty similarly.
But why talk to a brick wall

I see this as Nintendo trying to extend the shelf life of the 3DS hardware by using more or less the same cheap components with incremental improvements aimed primarily at allowing for easier porting of GameCube and Wii generation titles that will be used to flood the 2015 and beyond market. They're trying to hold off committing to a true successor by fluffing up the 3DS with a revision. As the system somewhat flounders in the West I do not think this revision will make a significant dent in the market: the changes are welcome but long overdue, and do little to nothing to alleviate majority of the concerns/observations as to why dedicated portable gaming hardware has stumbled in modern times due to the advent of mobile gaming. I feel the appeal of the 3DS LL is maybe too heavily reliant on what the 3DS XL and 2DS already had: a combination of those aware of yet hesitant to buy finally doing so, and early adopters looking to upgrade. Neither of these markets are particularly big and so, again, these seems like an effort to desperately extend the core 3DS shelf life instead of really hit the market hard with something new and appealing.
My concerns are as followed:
- Reliance on ports over new, exclusive software. I maintain the hardware upgrade will lead to a ton of GCN/Wii ports, and while that interests me somewhat I would like to see new stuff.
- Long term software support. Nintendo is historically fucking atrocious at committing long term to any device or peripheral that fragments their market. It's nice to talk shit about a better CPU and exclusive software, but proof is in the quantity. I would not be in the least bit surprised to see this release, get a bunch of ports, then die shortly after.
- Shitful marketing. 3DS LL sold alongside 2DS and 3DS XL and 3DS? Recipe for disaster.
I'm going to hock off my XL (which is one week old, fuck) soon and intend to get one of these whenever they hit Australia. But yeah. Not a move I'm confident in at all.
The old Nintendo is bleeding money logic. If only we could say the same thing about Sony.
It was increased CPU power and RAM just like the DSi and I presume New 3DS (they only said CPU...). So how is the GBC a new gen but DSi, not?
Currently one single game, which is a port of a 4 year old Wii game. There won't be many exclusive games.
In general you won't be able to play new games if you don't own new hardware. E.g. you can't play PS4 games, when you only own a PS3. But considering this is only a very minor upgrade and of course not the same as a new generation, so you won't miss out on a lot.
This was probably mentioned already, but until I can transfer my digital copy of games across different 3DS systems then this is just a total dick move. I bought the FE:A 3DS bundle... if I can't keep FE:A if I buy a new system, whats the point of the bundle to begin with?
Pretty much this. This happened with the DSi and nothing came of it.
Game Systems may go the way of smartphones..... I don't like it.
I can;t believe people are comparing this to the Gameboy Color. That was a new handheld gen, this isn't.
People that already own a 3DS can't play certain 3DS games.

because it's not a new, better handheld.
it's a touch-up of a current existing handheld. that's the point.
i seriously don't understand how this is such a difficult concept to understand.
no offense.
Oh the lets ignore how bad my favorite company is doing by looking at something else logic
And I don't understand why it is so difficult to understand that making this system (and the subsequent games required) takes manpower and resources away from development of a new system.
Oh please. I don't give a shit who does what numbers on the console or handheld sphere. I've been on this forum way too long to combat this petty battle. The fact remains that Sony seem to lose more money than Nintendo consistently ever since they entered the entertainment industry concentrated in videogame sales. Armchair critics will decry the fact that Sony are hampered by the ballooning effects of their other company arms that subtract the overall performance of the Playstation brand and its money-making impetus, but at the end of the day no one can deny that Nintendo rarely go by a year on year basis where losing money is a normal occurrence.
I own both a Vita and 3DS. Sure I don't own a PS4, but I'm not a sucker - if the games that INTEREST SOLELY MYSELF hit, then sure I'll buy one.
And if there was ever a favourite company then they are long dead to the cold winds of the 1980s my friend.
It's nothing more than bandaid to patch the gap between their new "bridged" hardware![]()
I'm not happy about it, the 3DS is 3yr 6mths old & this is basically a new system, i'm not going to be replacing my original day one 3DS, i bet the WiiU will be next :/
I'd be mad because I just got my XL, but I still have a ton of games left to play on it. Still, I waited this long because I knew they'd keep putting out revisions. Looks like I didn't wait long enough.
Also, Nintendo's use of "New" as part of official names continues to baffle me. Anyone up for some New Super Mario Bros? Y'know, that game from 2006?

your the one that keeps bringing up sony. sony sucks. whatever.
my only comment was that this move continues to show nintendo is out of touch and doesn't know how to combat their increasing irrelevance.
Fortunately they didn't copy them when it came to memory cards.Xenoblade looking about as bad as the GoW collection. Nintendo coping sony again

So, what's Sony's coming new Vita games lineup look like again?
I actually forgot about the Gameboy Color. maybe that's 'cause I always hated the original Gameboy.
Sony are based in Japan, as much as Nintendo are. Your original comment showcased how out of touch Nintendo seem to be. What better example to provide than a budding competitor in the same market from the same country & culture?
4 retail, 550+ digital.I see people bringing up Dsi.....how many exclusive games did DSi have? Can't think of anything notable from my memory.
That's not a list of Sony made games.

Well one company is focusing success on the west and succeeding with their console while the other is floundering everywhere.
One of these countries appears to be out of touch with their place in videogames. And doesn't look like they know how to fix it
