Do not upgrade to Windows 10 (yet) if you are using DualShock 4

Looks like I'm on build 10240 and WU says I'm up to date.....sigh...

People had success with the Media Upgrade Tool? I'm going to be really pissed if it gives me an older version hahahaha.

I just want to play Fallout 4 with my DS4.

Yeah, just use the Media Upgrade tool. Worked for me.

This is a potentially silly question, but I synced my PS4 controller to my PC and now I can't get it to sync back to my PS4. Has anyone encountered this before?

I don't get where you're getting that from, it's not true at all. Both programs use the same drivers, so they should both have the same input latency (I've used both and noticed no difference). I use DS4windows because it has a nicer UI, it's much easier to use, and I don't have to deal with banner ads. It also has the touchpad (touch) shift modifier that I can't live without.

I went with ds4windows because I saw inputmapper has ads. Is the lag present when plugged in via USB?

They already always worked, the only issue was needing a quick work around for a specific function that applies to certain games. You still need a work around for it to work under certain conditions regardless of your version of Windows.

First time reading this, any citation outside of anecdotal evidence?

Was trying to remember where I read this and found it. Based on this reddit thread. https://m.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/37t2zz/anybody_else_prefer_ds4windows_over_inputmapper/

Maybe not true though because just a couple of reddit posters.

Has anyone experienced issues with regards to waking a laptop/tablet up from sleep causing the driver to error?

I've been messing around with my dualshock 4 hooked up to my tablet via bluetooth. It works perfectly most of the time, but when i disconnect it, shut the lid on the tablet(it's a 2 in 1 running windows 10) and then re open, on reopening it won't connect back up citing driver error.

Restarting the tablet fixes the issue so it's not a massive issue, but still rather irritating.

No issues with the desktop going to sleep with the controller connected via bluetooth. Wakes up and everything is connected.

I'll never understand the people who like xbox controllers. I guess you've to be american to like that ugly monstruosity

or maybe instead of nationality it's because of analog stick placement? Maybe? It's more comfortable for a lot of people to have offset analog sticks. I like my PS4 controller personally, but that's mostly because of the touch pad and the fact I don't own an Xbox. There is nothing wrong with the controllers though. They are super comfortable...then again, I AM American so I may be naturally drawn to ugly monstrosities. :P

I wanted to do a fresh W10 install back when it first came out, but I never got around to it. I figured it was a good time to do it now since I wasn't getting the update.

I'm really glad that i did it. The controller works better (and easier) than ever and my C drive is clean as hell.

I'm new to PC gaming and I love my ds4. I've been using it with Windows 8.1 connected to USB but can I upgrade to Windows 10 and still use my DS4? Or better yet use my DS4 wirelessly? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm not very good with PC architecture. Thanks in advance.

Ya, I had to just plug it via USB back to my ps4 with it turned on and held down the middle button and it re-connected.

The new update for DS4windows disables the explorer shutdown workaround if you're on the newest build of windows. Am I to understand that if I get Windows 10 and update it fully, that DS4windows and its exclusive mode will finally just work?

Mine seems to work perfectly fine

Hmm, my DS4 connection keeps dropping and I am unable to reconnect. Anyone got a solution or have experienced something similar?

Is there some recommended Bluetooth stick for Dualshock 4 that doesn't drop connection? Or is everything little unstable at the moment?

This is Exactly what I'm having issues with at the moment, Connection drops after a while and when it reconnects the light is white and doesn't reconnect to program (DS4 windows, yet to try inputmapper).

Yeah I have to stop the DS4 windows service and start it again for it to properly reconnect.

What BT adapters are you guys using exactly? Is it a 4.0 v2? Or is it something older?

I haven't had any connection issues with my BTD-400 on Windows 8.1/10.

I have a LogiLink USB Bluetooth V4.0 EDR Class 1 Micro Adapter"

The connection keeps dropping, so maybe I should get a Belkin or an Asus dongle instead.

I have a weird experience with my Bluetooth adapter. It never worked until I randomly plugged it into a USB adapter from my old Wireless mouse and keyboard set. It's the adapter that the dongle plugged into.

It makes no sense to me, but plugging my Bluetooth adapter into the case directly makes it unstable. Plugged into this adapter, it works amazingly. I never have drop connection anymore.

Was thinking of getting Asus USB-BT400, anyone have experiences with that?
Would be nice to know what the devs of DS4Windows use for the best compatibility.

Definitely do some research on it, and make sure you check for the OS they use. There is a thread on the inputmapper forum with some details from users. I've heard some iffy things about the Asus adapter, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Nab. What dongle are you using?

Sorry, I typed out the wrong adapter earlier. It's the Kinivo BTD-400 on Windows 10 (it previously worked great on W8.1). I'm afraid to recommend anything, it seems like everyone has a different experience with every adapter out there. If you pick up an adapter, do so at a place with a good return policy.

Thanks for the link Nabs.
I guess I'll stick to wired for now, not feeling like taking shot in the dark and I have 2m Micro-USB wire at hand.

Very short range is my experience with it. Definitely not 10 meter, more like 2-3 meters. And I have it at the front of the computer. At the back it doesn't work. Otherwise it works. Never have disconnects. Using Win 8.1 though.

Edit: edited my post somewhat to be more accurate.

Seems this thread was made a few months back, but just noticed it.
Thanks for the heads up. Gonna sub to this thread.

DS4 works fine now in W10, so don't worry about it. We are mostly just talking about bluetooth connection issues right now.

Just noticed that there is no Windows 10 drivers for it, people reporting say that Win8.1 drivers work but no idea if that can cause any issues with Dualshock 4..

Thread title should probably be changed to reflect this.

Love using my DS4 as my PC controller.

I am using the Belkin Mini Bluetooth 4.0 and this worked flawlessly on windows 7, but on windows 10 it keeps dropping connection on DS4 windows.
I tried downloading windows 10 drivers but they seemed to be for Broadcom which is the tech it is using. I think this is more of a problem with the DS4 drivers as my iPhone has been connected for a while and doesn't drop.

It's definitely nothing special, but it's this one (edit- oh wow it's the same one as the guy you were quoting earlier):

I hated it and assumed it didn't work because it was cheap. This is the adapter I plugged it into instead of using the front of case or motherboard USB slots:

And it now works amazingly. I've had a keyboard, mouse, and 2 PS4 controllers connected to it at the same time without a single hiccup.

I thought that I would be fine because my mobo has Bluetooth built in, but I've always had issues connecting. I guess you have to have a separate adapter for this to work, right? Will my Logitech KB400 keyboard cause interference?

Does it? I was having a hell of a time trying to get more than 1 DS4 to work on a W10 machine a few days ago. And I also was having trouble getting DS4 + steam controller to work at the same time, but that may be a different issue.

Is everything fine on W10 now?

I've tried looking around other places and not finding anything recent and this thread makes it seem like things are fine now?

I want to know if this works on W10 now:
Connected via USB, with DS4windows (or whatever) on, the DS4 acts like a Player 1 360 controller and doesn't also show up as a generic gamepad (meaning no double inputs), and I can use the touchepad like a mouse.

If that stuff works then I guess I can finally upgrade to Windows 10.
