Do we expect Splatoon to be the next major Nintendo I.P.?

Did you go trough that List yourself?

I counted 16 Posts in there wich said that it will sell around TW101 Levels, or will bomb for sure.

The updated list is on this very page (100p.p), so just scroll up, and count for yourself wich post mention TW101 Level of sales or directly decided that it will undoubtley bomb. Wich is, to come back to the original point, is quite different than to have a feeling that it won't do well, or being unsure on how well this Concept will resonate will with the genral public
Just to be safe, I'll run another check to make sure I got the right posts.

It's important to note, at the very least, this may be the best selling shooter ever in Japan. Nintendo EAD.

It actually might be now that I think about it. CoD, BF, and GTA(are we counting this lol?) do well enough there but they seem pretty split between console and PC from what I see... would be cool if it's true.

Because it's made by Nintendo and not a hardcore niche game.
That doesnt mean that its automatically a success though. I dont think it was too far fetched to say several of weeks ago that the game might not be a success, when we didnt know how much advertisement it would be. Perhaps not as bad as The Wonderful 101 though.

Really looking forward to see the sales numbers. We get the PAL charts tomorrow (no solid numbers unfortuantely) and first week's numbers for Japan on Wedensday :)

Wonder if it might just manage to edge a number 1 in the UK tomorrow, should be top 3 at least which would be a fantastic result for Nintendo and we might get some clues to its performance in the blurb

Make the sequel an NX launch title and it's got a pretty good shot at joining Mario Kart and Smash's ranks.
That depends on if they can get a sequel ready by the likely release of the NX (around late 2017). More so given that the developers will be busy with DLC for the current game.

What a sequel needs, among other things, is a more comprehensive local multiplayer mode.
The question is if the NX can handle local multiplayer without compromising on the framerate. It would depend on how much of a graphical upgrade the theoretical Splatoon 2 gets compared to the original.

Really intersted in what the sales numbers are going to be. If Nintendo will put out a press release sometime this week if it sold pretty well.

With the marketing push Nintendo have given this game its clear that they want this to be a franchise.

The potential is definitely there. The game plays great and is incredibly addictive.

I am drooling over a next-gen version on Nintendo's next console :) Personally, I hope they leave the gyro controls in and I am a fan of the gamepad interaction so part of me hopes that remains as well.

Interesting to think what they will do if the gamepad is removed in the next console.

They'd have to retool a good chunk of the mechanics to accommodate the lack of a touch screen.

First shipment of the game apparently sold out in Japan.
This game is already practically guaranteed a sequel, and that's based on Japan numbers alone.

Yup. Still having some stock problems apparently

Nintendo seems to have done a great job marketing this to the existing Wii U audience. Both of my "gamer" friends who own a Wii u (but don't play exclusively Nintendo) heard about and picked up this game, neither of them even played the testfire before doing it.

I wonder if this can be a system seller too. I'm guessing Nintendo may keep the Splatoon bundle running all through the holiday this year, it makes sense to do that rather than bundling stuff like xenoblade or Mario maker in the USA.

There were still copies in best buy shelves when I went to pick up the game Saturday, but my copy wasn't the only one behind the counter with the preordered/in store pickup items.

OK, so went to Best Buy, Target and Gamestop today and... they are sold out of Splatoon. Completely. Both the game and the Wii U bundle; Best Buy had one but I couldn't get it, as they had a pick up later today.

I don't know if it is just Southern Connecticut, but it looks like it is selling well.

It better be the next big ip. It's better than Mariokart and Smash Bros.

This is what I wanted to see when talking about Nintendo creating new ip. It's not some minor league shit like Dillon's Rolling Western or Pushmo. Splatoon is just badass, and deserves to sit at the big boy table with Mariokart and Pikmin.

If Splatoon raked in some insane weekend results worldwide we might find out about it tomorrow since Nintendo informed us the same with Mario Kart and Smash.

Unless it mananages to hit over a million this weekend I doubt they'll say anything and while it'll sell fantastic I think it'll be a couple of weeks at least before it hits that milestone

It's doing really well on Amazon right now (the only thing outselling it are Amiibos and PS gift cards) so I'm curious to see how its U.S. sales are.

Regardless of how it sells, it's clear that Nintendo has a solid I.P. for future games here. The game is insanely fun and addictive, the lore is fleshed out and not related to any other Nintendo universe, the game mechanics are fantastic, and the concept is very flexible and robust (shown in the game by having a multiplayer and single player mode that work very differently, but using the same basic game mechanics).

Can someone point me to this wall of shame people mention here? Since its not in the OP I'm not combing through 22 pages :(

People thinking it would do Wonderful 101 numbers should be laughed at, but the "wall of shame" was way over the top, including pretty much anyone who was somewhat dubious about the games sales potential.

It looks like the game is doing well, but people shouldn't get too carried away with the celebrations because at the end of the day the sales aren't going to be super amazing. Better than most peoples and probably Nintendo's expectations? Probably. Good enough to ensure the future of Splatoon as a franchise? It's looking good. Are these things to celebrate? Definitely. But it's not going to be a big enough shock that people should go into full on finger pointing mode in my opinion.

There was similar stuff in the review thread where someone said something like "these reviews just confirm that Nintendo still makes the best games in the world!" which is sort of hyperbolic when it has a low-80s average, or that short lived thread asking "is Splatoon this generations defining console shooter?". I mean really... reel it in a bit.

But hey, the hype has got to me enough that I'm going to buy it this afternoon!

Don't really want to say yet. Like every game we get excited for it within the month of release so hopefully the future updates and DLC makes it so the game continues to stay fun and help the word of mouth. Loving the game so far.

About a week ago, my 8 year old niece didn't really know what it was when I told her about it, and today I told her I got it and she said she saw a bunch of commercials and was excited to play it. She played it a couple hours this afternoon and really loved it. She said it's her favorite game now. Her last big game was Garden Warfare.

The definition of front-butt.
The real wall of shame is in the past year of Splatoon threads. The "looks like a $20 game" "its going to bomb" posts are sprinkled throughout. Posters would drop a one-liner like that for no reason, especially around the reveal at E3.

I got my copy from walmart on Saturday and it was the last one. That surprised me.

I just hope all the people that always claimed Nintendo doesn't make new ip have bought this.

Not only new ip but almost a new genre

Nintendo needs to have Splatoon 2 ready for their next platform.
