Do you like the name "NX" or do you think Nintendo should change it?

Amiibo

Miitomo

...

Bomiito

Shoulda just call it Bombiito in advance.

I think they need to pull out Revolution and market this as a big change for them.

I think it's a great, clean name that describes the concept (Nintendo across multiple platforms) and they should keep it

but they'll probably end up calling it New Wii U+

LMAO ;_;

Instant classic joke.

Yeah, we know, but then again that's not what the thread is asking

I know what the thread is asking, but this question comes up every generation and Nintendo never sticks with their development codenames. It's moot.

Do I like the name NX for it? Not really. It doesn't convey anything. It evokes no feelings and tells you nothing about the concept of the system. Whatever they eventually go with will hit some of those points, or attempt to.

What does "NX" stand for anyway? I assumed it abbreviated "Next" as in next machine, but now I'm not so sure...maybe it means Neo Xenoceratops?

Hardcore, gritty realisitc Yoshi reimagining?

I hope they change it. NX sucks. Its worse than Wii.
They need to recapture the magic of N64 or Gamecube (as names).

I'm sure they're pretty steadfast on keeping the NX name.

I mean, all of their other systems have been named this far in advance ...

I'm still scared they'll use the Wii brand again, because you know... Nintendo.
They still are planning to use the Mii's (amiiboo, miitomo) so let's pray to the old and new Gods they'll leave it by that.

Question is stupid because it is, as you stated, a codename. You can speculate on that but this is as stupid as arguing about the next Xbox being called PS5.

Asking for opinions on things is stupid? Why are you on a gaming discussion forum?

It depends, they might keep it, sometimes things change, and the 3DS and Wii U were both awful names, so if the general perception is NX is a name that is liked, who knows what could happen

They even have a new CEO in place for the first time since the Gamecube launched, so maybe it will be called the NX

I like it as a name, and was wondering if others felt the same, I mean, I assume most people disliked Project Cafe as a name, so it's easy to see how that was scrapped

Codename or not, if it's not called the NX the chances are it will be called something worse than NX, and they have form for naming systems poorly. The original Wii was probably the last system they named that wasn't given a terrible name, and even that is debatable

Without bothering to Google sourced info...

The codename for the DS was the DS.
In development it stood for "Developer System" (or something like that), but they liked the sound of it and changed the meaning to "Dual Screen" for the official naming.

"It's stupid because it won't happen" - Woen

I know what the thread is asking, but this question comes up every generation and Nintendo never sticks with their development codenames. It's moot.

Yes it's moot because they never stick with the codenames, except for when they do

I like it being the NX 'family of systems'

the Nintendo Go 5, Go 7, and Go 9, and the Nintendo Home. all running on the NXOS.

They're pretty entrenched in the double-i naming schemes at this point that I can't imagine their next system not using it.

We had Wii, so how about going with Pii?

They had Wii which was a success and then Wii U which wasn't. I'm not so sure they're "entrenched" in it. Mii is maybe the only ii they'll stick with.

NX is a decent name because it describes the system. N for Nintendo, X for cross. It's a place where all your devices come together within a single Nintendo ecosystem.

That said, they'll probably change the name. Hopefully if it's not something like "The Nintendo" where it's easily recognizable by the name alone, it's a new name that will catch on, sort of like the original Wii, and will become recognizable fast.

with an "X"? of course they are going to change it because of Microsoft

and they should leave the Wii brand.

Just go back to Nintendo something

I hope they keep it, but know they won't. I find 'NX' weirdly nostalgic - I remember way back when, before 'Revolution' started going round, people referred to the Gamecube successor as the 'N5'.

It's a better name than WiiU, but honestly anything is, so that shouldn't be used as a bar. A bad/ confusing name is one of the reasons why they have to release this new system as soon as they are.

They need to think of something better / more marketable. The NX just sounds like a smart phone or something. Nintendo has to get this one right because they can't afford to have another console come out where the branding is a barrier of sorts

The Wii was given the codename 'Revolution' and at the time a lot of people became quite fond of that as a name. Then when they revealed it was to be called the Wii a lot of people said 'Revolution' was the superior name

Since Nintendo revealed they were working on a new console, under the codename NX, it's generally been refereed to as that

How would you feel if the new system was simply called the Nintendo NX?

Do you think that's a good name? A bad name? Why?

Does anyone think they should keep the "Wii" name?
The Thwii maybe?

What do you think, GAF?

Edit:
Do not keep the Wii name It is basically POISON now. POISON.

NX is simple, sleek and kinda futuristic. I like it way more than stuff like GameCube, Wii and Wii U.

But they will, of course, change it as it's just a codename.

NX is probably their code name for Nintendo Cross as in cross compatible between the home console and handheld version.

Hmmm Nintendo Cross ay? I'm cool with that but would some big X logo go over well with X Box branding just a few shelves over?

I honestly want them to call it NES 2.

To me that would be a statement where they´re headed and I would like it.

There's no way that will be the final name of the console.

I think it's a decent name though. Better than the the Wii branding, that's for sure.

WiiNX, NextWii, anything except NX, the Wii was the 'Revolution' until we all fell about laughing at the name reveal at E3. Of course the billions of dollars gave Nintendo the last laugh, so when they announce it and it sounds shit don't write it off straight away (nor assume success, WiiU still makes me chuckle).
