More on the Comic Relief mini-epsiodes:

“Two episodes. Two mini-episodes. Very, very small episodes – maybe eight minutes in total, so that’s around four minutes each. It’s not a spoof. It’s in the style of the ones that we’ve done for Children In Need, so it’s taken seriously as a proper bit of Doctor Who – funny, but not a sketch. A little miniature story. One’s called ‘Space’ and one’s called ‘Time’, so they’re Space & Time. And there’s a moment with two Amy Ponds in it. If you’re a red-blooded male surely that’s enough! You’ve got Amy Pond flirting with herself.”

Edit: By the way, is it just me or did they retcon the fact that future/past self can't touch the present? it happened twice and the Doctor just stood there with nothing expository to say. It felt really odd.
There was nothing to retcon. The rules of time travel change to suit whatever the writer needs at that time. Throughout all of newWho, there has been one constant - "some moments of time are fixed, most aren't" - and that's it. It stops the Doctor from changing human history as we know it, but allows him to do pretty much anything else.

Another good excuse is "the rules affect time travelers in differently/not at all", the rules being whatever the writer wants character A to be confined by but not character B, where A is an episode-specific character and B is a companion/The Doctor.

See also: the sonic screwdriver and what it can and cannot manipulate. The molecular structure of objects? No problem! Wooden doors (even if the locking mechanisms themselves are metal)? Nope!

Though, to be honest, I think "it can't do wood" is just a wry in-joke at this point that the writers know is ridiculous but they keep around for comedy value.

Well, I thought it'd be different since they made a big deal out of Rose touching baby-Rose back in series one.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

I was gonna mention the whole Bad Wolf thing, but then realized that they don't know about that til later.

In his defense, it is sort of amazing news. I mean, I certainly wasn't expecting it.

Some people would freak out if we revealed the news. It's that epic and mind blowing. Gaf itself might explode.

Good to know.

It'll be interesting right off the bat. You can trust me on this.

When The Doctor loses the Tardis in the first episode and spends the rest of the season waiting around, drinking tea, I'm coming for you and your lies, Nickiepoo!

Matt Smith could make that awesome.

Finally Delurked.

Can't wait for Season 6 - I really hope the Utah two parter is as epic as the best of Season 5. I grew up with Tom Baker, in the UK, and never really got into New Who until Matt Smith was announced. Watched the Eleventh Hour and thought he was wonderful. Been going back through S1 to S4 on netflix, and have been watching the S5 blu-rays.

The Trust your Doctor poster is wonderful, would love a large copy.

God i hope the River stuff plays out to its max potential this season. The whole concept of her in the Silence in the Library two parter blew my fucking mind. It was so masterfully done and played with the fact that he is a fucking time traveler rather than just a tool to set up the setting.

I wonder if it will tie into Amy somehow or whether those two story arcs will each have their own different focus in the two part season.

That's why I love Steven Moffat's run so much. His standalone episodes throughout Davies' run played around with the Time aspect of the Time Lord, instead of just having him visit different spots in history. Now that he can plan a whole series it's just freakin' awesome.

I'm honestly really interested to see what happens when the Doctor meets River for her first time. I imagine it will play out as some weird parallel to the Silence in the Library two-parter, where River is going "who ARE you?!" the whole time.
