Truly captures Jenna's beauty.

Am I just weird or is there

vibes?

He directed the first season of Da Vinci's Demons. I'm now really interested.

He's directing two episodes of series 8 too.

I couldn't resist and watched the leaked episode. For those who want to look for it, the leak isn't exactly new, it's the same source as before it's just that now the upload isn't incomplete. The episode itself isn't as finished as the first one, there's some lines missing and
one of the daleks is just Brigg's voice without the effect which was funny to hear.
I still can't get over how much better Clara is. Capaldi is amazing again. Really good episode.

All the positive feedback about Clara gives me massive hope.

She has total potential to be my favourite companion if actually given a character.

So anyone watching the leaks, general consensus on Capaldi? Curious what Doctors he reminds you of, or if he's something totally new.

No, I'm not a BBC narc

More nuanced, and less bombastic than 10 and 11. Reminds me of a mixture of 3,4 and 9.

Finished S7 part 2.

Now to rewatch the 50th and TOTD.

Clara isnt as bad as you guys make her seem. She seems about as vapid as every other companion in their first series, and she only had half the episodes as well

The South Korea video the official DW account uploaded had a thumbnail that reminded me of something else... then sure enough, a friend sent me this:

My brother's been catching up with the show so I've been rewatching it with him and we're at about the same point. It synced up nicely, though these last 2 weeks are going to be a pain. I'm half-crossing my fingers the intro sequence will leak in a better quality. Something has to keep me entertained and from watching the leaks sitting on my HD at home =/

I agree. She's pretty "ok" though not much than that. From what I've seen of the leaks though, the writing team and herself are working pretty hard to fix that.

The only thing bad with Clara is the premise. If you go beyond "impossible girl", you find a great companion.

Imagine if Rose was hyped up as "mysterious Bad Wolf girl" before 9th even met her. Imagine that "Watch me run" scene with him, and then finding Rose, having a regular life, and a boyfriend she is eager to leave for the Doctor. Not so amazing, right?

Right.

Lesson: Moffat needs to underpromise and overdeliver, not the other way around :D

Clara's great, and Jenna's a much stronger actress than Karen. Her performance in the last 20ish minutes of Time of the Doctor was stellar.

Rose was awful anyway.

It's so un-Doctor-y to me. That scene grates a bit. Though the Vanity Doctor would be the one to throw a temper tantrum about that shit.

For my money, the single most powerfully acted scene in the show's history is Catherine Tate in Turn Left just before she's sent back in time. Her terror is so palpable. It's a stunning scene. Not even Rose could kill it.

I loved it, because I think that the 10th Doctor had become pretty vain and unlikeable by the end of his life, so for him to have a tantrum, but at the end of it, accept that The Doctor's job is to save lives even if it means giving his own was a kind of vindication and end of a narrative arc.

I just wish they hadn't added that fucking epilogue.

I think Clara is fine. She's doesn't have much to compete with. We've had Rose, someone who I thought might be as good as Ace at first, then turned into a bigger and bigger Mary Sue soap opera misfit with almost every episode, played at least by a surprisingly ok actress. Then Martha who was a fantastic concept wasted even more than Rose. Then we had Donna who was a fantastic actress with fantastic chemistry with Tennant who was a pretty godawful concept and also literally thrown away at the end of her arc. River Song I find somehow interesting yet unbearable except that Alex Kingston is a decent actress. Amy... Amy was only tolerable as a child, or with Rory. The only well rounded companion so far to me was Mr. Cribbins. Jenna I think is competent enough and enough of a blank slate at this point to be rescued with good writing and chemistry.

So this is probably a stupid question but I've never bothered to actually ask about it: What happened between The Name of the Doctor and The Day of the Doctor?
So they end up in some weird place inside the Doctor's head or something, the war Doctor is revealed, and then, uh, they jump to some point in the future in which Clara is teaching at school at the beginning of The Name of the Doctor.
What gives? AFAIK other than Night of the Doctor which is a prequel, there's nothing that fills that gap between the episodes.

They simply leave.
Probably have other adventures before they part ways for a while, since the beginning of Day of the Doctor suggests Clara and the Doctor haven't seen each other for a while. Probably months, maybe even a year or two.

They were supposed to film a scene of them leaving, but Matt had hurt his leg... so they didn't.

Huh. That's sorta underwhelming, it definitely feels like there's something missing then. Oh well, at least now I know.

Well if you think about it, the Doctor has already retrieved Clara and left at the end of Name. It's not like they're sticking around as Hurt turns to the screen.

Hmm, maybe. I'll keep it in mind while rewatching it this week and see if my brother ends up as confused as I was or at least mentions it.

Didn't see this mentioned but for some reason you can buy Deep Breath on DVD and Blu-ray from September 8th: http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/deep-breath-standalone-dvd-blu-ray-65191.htm

Just a cash grab. It's "feature length" so they figure they can get away with it. Some people will buy it. Same thing as those Series A / Series B sets. It would make more sense to wait for the whole set, but sometimes you just feel impatient and don't want to wait to see it in glorious HD. It's also an option for people on a budget who can't buy the whole series but can get away with spending 10 bucks.

I won't be buying it of course. I'll be on the lookout for the series 8 set.

I'm getting a season pass on iTunes again this season since I don't have BBC America. Gets me the show in HD to keep. Only downside (apart from being $38) is that I have to stay away from this thread till the morning after broadcast. Oh well. I've waited this long, one more day won't hurt.

Does anyone have Netflix with a mail plan? I'm trying to find out if Doctor Who is available for bluray through Netflix, and can't find out anywhere. I'm confident I actually have to have a mail plan to find out, which twikes me off. I'd love it if there is a way to confirm or deny, and I can't find out anywhere.

I'm one of those who did that with Series 6, bought the sets instead of the complete set like an idiot. Don't do it!

That said, is that 50th Anniversary set coming to the U.S.? I don't want to buy those separately.

When they split the season and blu-ray releases for Series 6 and 7, I knew they'd come out with a whole set anyway, so I held off and it's worked out just fine.

I feel like I should hold out until Series 8 comes out on blu-ray to include The Day of the Doctor and The Time of the Doctor, but that might be stretching it for the Series 8 set.

So apparently they cancelled the Sydney live youtube Q&A because they held the Q&A after the screening, so there would be spoilers. They'll probably post a highlight video with the spoilers edited out or something though. Here's a pretty fun video of his entrance:

The other Q&A's should be live again, but it's probably hard to top the weirdness of the Seoul one. Mexico City is next I think.

Welcome Doctor Matt Smith and Amy Pond! I'm 5 episodes and thought it was a good time to jump in and post some thoughts...

1) This season has so far left no strong impression on me---positive or negative. If there is one thing I can say improved this season is the camera work. The framing, camera movement, etc. all seems far ahead of previous seasons. It is by no means amazing, but there have been a few shots I've enjoyed quite a lot.

2) I'm not digging the chemistry so far. I really like the idea of Amy seeing the Doctor as her old imaginary friend, but this idea was dropped after the first episode. The most chemistry they've had was at the end of episode 5 when Amy takes him to her bedroom and reveals she is about to get married. Their interaction was enjoyable and playful...but then she tried banging her imaginary friend. So, I guess they won't be going at this relationship from the friend angle.

3) Amy makes me want to scream at my TV. In the newest Weeping Angels episode, there is a moment a ridiculous amount of dust comes out of her eye. River walks up to her and asks if she is all right, to which Amy tells her she is fine. WHAT?! You just had a beach fall out of your face! There is logically, and emotionally even, no reason to not reveal something like dust coming of your face...at least that is how I feel. It certainly had nothing to do with trust, as she would've told the Doctor after. And it certainly wasn't trust, because 2 seconds later River rolls up Amy's sleeve, pulls out a huge honkin' syringe with goopy green crap in it, and injects Amy. AFTER she injects her, Amy asks what it was. No trust issues there if it's inject first, ask later.

4) River. I don't like her. She seems to exist for the sole purpose of creating forced suspense and mystery. Go away, River!

5) Favorite Matt Smith moment so far? "Flesh and Stone". When he is trying to guide Amy through the Angels, and River tells him it isn't going to work. Matt Smith turns to her and yells "What have you got?" He delivers it with such frustrated anger. It is such a natural reaction that, although simple and short, worked real damn well. Who in his shoes wouldn't feel the same way and snap like that?

6) The Weeping Angels have been butchered. What happened to my ferocious, blink-fast monsters?! Now they rip out people's spinal cortex's to speak with their voices through walkie-talkies? And now they quantum lock if they THINK you're watching them? That destroys the logic of them! If they quantum lock if you act like you can see them, then by that logic they have control over their quantum state. Therefore if two angels ever looked at each other on accident, they'd realize "Whoops! My bad, Jeff. Thought you were that human" and go about their business.

As much as I love the redecorated recurring line I think it's being run into the ground at this point

They mostly chalk it up to culmination of pre-wedding jitters and almost dying a few times. This helps . Mostly that's just what she's like, though she does get a wake-up call later on. She continues to treat Rory like shit and I'm not even sure she realises she's doing it.

It's very poorly handled yes. They can apparently enter and leave it voluntarily which doesn't neccessarily contradict them being forced into it by being seen. It does however contradict what The Doctor says in Blink about it ONLY being an involuntary mechanism though.

Thank you for posting this. I watched the scene, and I actually really enjoyed it. It continued the chemistry I was liking at the end of the episode originally, and took it a bit further. Great scene for both of them. She even pointed a light on something I find very creepy about the Doctor....his predilection towards picking up the ladies. Shame they cut it.
Matt's reaction is the moment when his Doctor zoomed to the top of the list of my favorite Doctor.
It was all really good, and gave him some points in my book. He still has some work to do though.

It was actually never cut! It's just scripted and shot like that (intentionally). It was a bonus on the Season 5 DVD along with this one from between The Eleventh Hour and The Beast Below.

But yes, they're both very good and it's a shame that they're not in the episodes proper. That said I'm always up for more seasons of the Doctor and companions bumming around in/exploring the TARDIS for no good reason. I like a some of the classic series TARDIS stuff better than the glimpses of the interior we get now because it was just filler where they wandered around and it helps flesh out the place a lot.

That's why Journey to the Center of the TARDIS was such a letdown. They could have actually explored the TARDIS and it's various rooms and how it works, and instead did nothing of the sort
