Could be possible.

Yeah, I'm just running it all through my head right now. Thing is, we've seen every regeneration onscreen except 8-9 (and I guess 0-1?), so was the breakup then? If that's the case, I guess the 50th is going to be freakin' incredible.

...or, he was cloned into flesh like Amy.

That would be incredible.

I think they are going to have to come up with some sort of revelation about the character. Not giving the audience something is going to piss off a lot of people, but I don't think that something will be his name. It will be a whisper.

Or "Theta Sigma." That's more of a nickname though.

Or: "My name is..", then hard cut to black a la The Sopranos.

Time to bring back Paul Mcgann

I don't think they'll reveal the Doctor's name, it's utterly unimportant, but I can certainly see the revelation tying back into The Doctor's family or his lineage.

The Cartmel Masterplan had The Doctor as The Other and hanging about with Rassilon and Omega. Which is why he's 'far more than just a time lord', he was instrumental to the founding of Time Lord society and while not stated, considering he'd be the only one who didn't go batshit and corrupt, it'd be a legacy he'd want to escape.

I don't really like the idea of any incarnation of The Doctor being previous to Hartnell however.

There's a lot of easy backstory to go with the fact that when we met the Doctor he was a grandfather though. There could be more to why he ran away, and why he felt it necessary to take his granddaughter with him and why he was so damn paranoid initially. It changes little about the character (we already know, and it has been stated more than once that he was a father) and it just shines a light on the very beginnings of the series.

It could even just be an explanation of why he calls himself The Doctor. As a bit of fanwank, it could touch back to A Town Called Mercy and why he took it all so personally. There could be something in the Doctor's past that he feels the need to both run from and atone for. We know the Doctor had a kid, that kid could have done something really bad. His fault or not, The Doctor would feel partially responsible for such a thing, choose a title reflecting of a need to help and neatly explain why he left his name behind and want to get his granddaughter the hell off Gallifrey. Just more to escape from than boredom.

I wouldn't want to hang around Earth if I was the father of Josef Mengele (or even just an idiot who was innocently responsible for a lot of death) and had a granddaughter to look after, if you get my meaning.

I don't think they'll go in any way even that far though, they won't reveal a mystery to the character of The Doctor without introducing a few more. Just trying to think of ways to still answer the question if just an Obi-Wan Kenobi-esque 'certain point of view'

Didn't we get some pics from the filming of the Cybermen episode? I remember reading Gaiman was writing that one.

What's the difference between the two?

Mondas Cybermen (from the classic series) are aliens. Hence the properly future tech in the cyberlegions in "A Good Man Goes To War" (which were supposed to be mondas cybermen but the budget didn't allow them to make new costumes I think).

I still love the design from Tenth Planet myself, creepiest one by far.

I'm curious of Gaiman bothered toe explain the difference between Earth (2) Cybermen and Mondas Cybermen in his script.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they do reveal what Axiom said up above, it's been speculated for awhile now that the good Doctor actually did help Omega, Rassilon and whoever else might have been there at the time to bring about the Time Lords greatest accomplishments. It might even explain why his own regenerations are so strange compared to most other Time Lords and the changes he undergoes are so drastic compared to them. Maybe he was truly the first.

Probably won't go that way but it's more likely than revealing his name which at this point is bound to be a let down no matter what.

Jessica Raine is indeed her, yeah. It was confirmed in casting ages ago, via a full press release even. There's a shitty long-lens photo of her and the person playing Newman here: http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/an-adventure-in-space-time-filming-pics.html

However, that casting note isn't talking about An Adventure in Space & Time - she's playing a character in 'Phantom of the Hex,' as well, a 7b episode.

No, you're missing my point. I know she's playing her in An Adventure..., but it'd amuse me if tying into the Big Secret was the idea that she will also play Verity in the main show.

Ridiculously self-indulgent, of course!

So I just rewatched bad/good/first/last night and it's really fascinating how many things have been resolved or explained in these mini episodes.

My daughter came up with her own crossover tonight.

Barrowman maybe not? New interview today; he says his comments have been taken "completely out of context," and was very shifty in answering. His sister, also in the interview, jumped in and said "the BBC is mad at him," - hmmm..

Are they doing Big Finish audios for each Doctor? Maybe it's just he'd appear in one of those.

BBC and Big Finish are teaming up for some anniversary audios, but they're audio books, not plays. Big Finish then have their own separate celebration audio within the terms of their own license, featuring Doctors 4-8. The first and second Doctor audio books are read by companions from the era with the Doctors gone. There's every chance Barrowman might read Eccleston or Tennant's audio, I suppose, but the way he spoke in the interview he got in trouble for really did seem to indicate more. Plus, all those audios are, I believe, in the can already.

That sounds more like he's definitely involved to me.

Probably pulling his penis out on set again.

I'm currently rewatching series 5, and a thought occurred to me. Was it ever found out why the Tardis exploded or how? Or just hasn't occurred yet?

They have never come out and specifically said it was The Silence, but that's what we are supposed to believe. Moffet loves to leave loose ends.

Watched a bunch of series 1-3 stuff with roommates last night, including The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Girl in the Fireplace, and Blink. I miss creepy Moffat. I really hope we see the Silence again and not just as window dressing in an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink finale.
