Doctor Who Series Seven |OT| The Question You've Been Running From All Your Life

That's a stretch. 11, 10 and... 2? It seems to be a new Doctor only affair, which is why it's a shame Eccleston isn't involved. I guess you'd get a weird thing going on with Eccleston and Tennant since Rose was both their companion though...

The rumour (which seems increasingly likely after today) is that it'll be 1, 2, 8, 10 and 11. The person who said this was the only person who also called Rose, and has a track record of putting things out that have been correct in the past.

1 and 2 have been recast already as part of the Docudrama of Who's creation. Pertwee is 3! The rumour makes sense in a way - they can hardly recast living Doctors, it would be blasphemy, and 4-6 at least all are certainly too old to carry the role now, no matter how much technobabble hand-waving they do. It was fine for a charity special, not for a proper episode. 7 may also be too old. We never saw how old 8 looked before he regenerated, Tennant still looks like Tennant, and 1 and 2 have been recast as their actors have passed. Pertwee is gone too, of course.

The other thing -- The anniversary story is based around "Paintings" - Smith and Moffat said. That was their hint. The ongoing theory is it'll be a "Dorian Gray" style thing with paintings/portraits of past Doctors & Companions, and possibly those portraits coming to life.

Side note - actual portrait artwork has been commissioned for Blackpool Illuminations, where Who always has a big presence. 12 images have been paid for, each supposedly featuring a Doctor, a companion and the TARDIS. 12 - with the 12th being revealed after the anniversary special airs. Reported ages ago in this thread.

It's still my feeling that we'll see 12 in this episode, even if we don't know that it's actually the Doctor. With it looking increasingly likely Matt is gearing up to leave at Christmas, Moffat surely won't be able to resist a time-bending introduction of a new Doctor, will he?

Why won't Eccleston do Who? :(

You can't go back to Who after becoming this...

Disagreed with various management, doesn't like playing the same role for too long etc. He's seemed less negative about it lately, but clearly he has no interest otherwise they probably would have announced it today.

Very interesting. I still think recasting old Doctors is weird, but... better than living Doctors, I'll admit.

EDIT: WOW Moffatt, really killing the "Doctor Who?" thing dead aren't you?

Caroline Skinner has actually been erased from Doctor Who! No Executive Producer credit in the opening moments! Pretty funny.

Also -- I bet she doesn't die, but there's a fake out where for a moment it looks like she will.

Loving this episode right now. Calling it now, the client is
The Great Intelligence

I'm loving it as well, that quadricycle line slayed me. Also I'm liking all the changes that they've made to the doctor. Like his cloths, hair, and the new intro sequence.

Its OK.. but the excessive hacking stuff is very VERY naff and is anyone else finding the sound mix so loud that in sections theyre having trouble making out speech?!

Not great

Bit too much fake typing! It's very easy to tell when somebody can actually touch type.

Really cool story, though. Lovely soundtrack cues. Shame they were deafeningly loud! Great to see Richard E Grant actually appearing in person... it reminded me a bit of Games Master, hah.

Lovely first episode. Next week looks fun!

I thought
Russell E. Grant was criminally underused in the Christmas special, so this is great.

Yeah that teaser was blatantly 10 shooting the energy into his disembodied hand tier.

The excessive hacking was silly but I liked the Evil Wi-Fi stuff much better than I thought I would.

Holy crap, regeneration energy?

Yeah I don't know what's up with that. Breaking the "Oh btw I can do this swirly energy thing and regenerate into a new person" thing to Clara already? Bit soon for that.

In the preview at the end, when he screams, "YOU HAVE LOST."

Will re watch. Didn't notice it the first time.

Fun episode. Great concept.

Richard E. Grant! I wish they'd just link him as the mastermind behind the whole Silence Will Fall thing to give that some closure.

That was a pretty fun and silly episode. Clara still makes me feel bad for completely forgetting about Amy.

You'd think I'd be used to that, since I've had the same feeling since Asylum aired.

I've not stayed up to the early morning to watch the premiere live since Eleventh Hour, to bed!

Did anyone notice that the "Summer Falls" book was written by Amelia Williams?

Also, that "lady in the shop" who gave Clara the Doctor's number, anyone else think that might be hinting at River?

Also, her 16th and 23rd years were missing in that book, I wonder why.

Really rather enjoyed that. Heavy Black Mirror vibes at the beginning, and I loved the overall fate of Ms. Kizmet.

And The Great Intelligence being this series' Big Bad fills me with joy.

Ah, I think you're overinterpreting that.

I might be, but it definitely looked like regeneration energy, although I highly doubt he really is regenerating.
Really promising season, especially with Unit seeming to play a big part as well after their role in The Power of Three.

Yeah, the Amelia Williams book was good to see. "Summer Falls" is an interesting title. The "lady in the shop" could be anyone. Hope they don't just go with River.

Yeah, the birthdays that were missing were also really interesting. Missing birthdays for her missing other selves? I have no idea but there are a lot of cool little things going on in this episode.

I liked the line about Chapter 11 being better than 10 and would make you cry.

When I think of lady in a shop, I think Rose Tyler. She did often complain about 'working in a shop'.

It'd be a bit similar to series 4 though.

Great episode and it's cool to see the intelligence back. I did some looking back and find it fascinating how HP Lovecraft inspired this thing is on its origin. Definitely more interested in this foe now.

This is probably going to be it. I can just imagine in the finale when the Doctor meets River that she's the one who set them both up in the first place. Then it will be revealed River has the hots for Clara. Mark my words.
