I'd really like Susan to make a comeback. I think it could be a great mystery story arch and since Moffett is so fond of mystery-box storytelling I think he could do a good job with it. Also, since the Doctor is in his youngest incarnation I think it would be interesting to have Susan be very old (and thus opposite to how it originally was). It would be really hard to pull off though, and he would have to get the perfect actress to play her. So far Moffett's cast has been brilliant, but Alex Kingston is terrible IMO (but since she came in during the Tennant years he may have little to do with her casting) so I'd be a little hesitant. Anyway, I think it's ripe for Susan to make a return, and I think it would be the perfect stamp for Moffett to make on the series. Also, Smith - so much more so than Tennant or Eccleston - is cold and rather impersonal, just like the First Doctor, so I think that would be a great fit as well.

Martha was a charming performance in search of a consistent and compelling character.

I like a lot of what Agyeman did, but Davies handled the character horribly.

I think I liked her better after she left the Doctor. She'd have been a good addition to the Torchwood cast, I thought. Mostly because she stopped pining for The Doctor. Which was also why I liked Donna, because she didn't pine for the Doctor. I mean, let there be stuff like that goin' on, but let's not make that take center stage when we can be having episodes like the one where the Doctor made a "House Call".

They had a small clip on breakfast TV this morning:
Rory hands Amy the divorce papers !!!!1111!!11one

Highlighted that without thinking. I'm not going to discuss my thoughts on it until its officially released, but it bothers me for reasons I'll get into then

It's a drinking game. Anytime he says it, take a shot. Notify the hospital.

For Seasons 5 and 6 you replace it with any time Smith spins around and raises his hands or jerks his head up while having some kind of revelation.
I am SO playing this in the future. Just when I thought Who couldn't get any better! :D

How about everytime Smith says Geronimo, you have to down a pint?

Or anytime he says "cool." but anytime he acts wibbly wobbly works too.
But Smith is always wibbly wobbly... Are you trying to KILL me!?

I think one slowburn episode of them just talking with the original actress would be amazing in and of itself. Not every episode needs running around. Sometimes the Doctor has to stop and think of how far he's either come or fallen.

Set the whole episode in the TARDIS as it flies... somewhere. They never even have to arrive (Barcelona would make for a good gag here).

The game among my friends for S1/S2 is 'take a shot every time Billie Piper looks like a slut'.

We've never actually played it for fear of alcohol poisoning.

And that is a very subjective rule as well. It is like making a rule of saying "take a shot anytime Rory does something awesome."

Purely subjective.

Here is a simple set of rules to assist in a drinking game:

Doctor 9: Take a shot anytime he says "FANTASTIC!"

Doctor 10: Take a shot anytime he says "BRILLIANT!"

BONUS ROUND! Take a shot anytime he says "I am sorry." Or any variation thereof.

Doctor 11: Take a shot anytime he says "Cool." I need some better basic rules for Eleven. Something that is easy to follow.

I think mines pretty easy to follow for 11. Its a bit verbose in text but very distinctive in action.

Wait, I think I have it: anytime 11 says "of course!"

Take a shot anytime when someone asks "who" and it refers to the Doctor or there is a "who" pun.

Example:
"WHO did you kill?" - The Doctor asked River, revealing later that she kills the Doctor.
"Where is the Doctor!?" "Doctor who?" - The opening scene of Impossible Astronaut

Etc. etc.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

Well that's a rule that extends to ALL of Doctor Who as it happened right from the very start.
Ian: Just open the doors Dr. Foreman.
1st Doctor: Eh, Doctor Who? What's he talking about?

I've only watched Matt Smith's run.
Am now awaiting death by Whovians.

Watch the RTD years. As much shit as it gets (and for some of it, rightfully so), it is still well worth the time. Delve in, and fall deeper in love with The Doctor.

Also, I feel like you gain more appreciation for the Matt Smith/Moffat era by watching the Eccleston/Tennant/RTD era. And there's just too many great episodes that can't be missed.

I'll release the damn wolves, Mariolee, get watching!

Eh, I feel like the Moffat era has gotten as much shit as RTD, just different negatives.

RTD: absolute cheese and awful writing in particular episodes
Moffat: Lofty and pie in the sky plots that ultimately lead to nothing substantial

I think series 6 definitely started to show cracks in the Moffat era. A definite step down from 5, but still some of the best stuff. Especially Doctor's Wife (and I am very partial to Let's Kill Hitler).

Once Moffat has had a run as long as RTD, it will be easier to judge them against each other. RTD came on with a pretty much fresh slate and set The Doctor on his path to being the worldwide phenomenon he is today. We have to give him credit for resurrecting him.

Moffat came off the reboot, but also at the end of a pretty mediocre final run by RTD, so series 5 was a HUGE breath of fresh air. But Moffat did have the stage set better for him than RTD did.

I still prefer Moffat's run to RTD so far, but let's see how well he continues it, or if he devolves year over year like RTD did.

From what little I've seen of RTD's run, it seems like a low-production Syfy show with awful acting from everyone except Tennant. I don't know if I can go back from the greatness that is Matt Smith. :( Especially since it would mean going to an all new cast.

Funny you say that since they had the American rights to the show until 2009 when BBC America snatched them up. That was near the end of the RTD era too. Hmmm...

YOU DO IT, AND YOU DO IT NOW

Or after the new season, I'm not being pushy.

I don't know, the last half of series 4 was pretty incredible. Moffats two-parter and then Midnight, Turn Left, and the finale episodes. Pretty solid end.

I liked a lot of RTD's run. There were some duds here and there, but I liked it a lot for the most part, and Eccleston/Tennant were great.

But you're right about the looks. Seasons 1-4 look fairly low-budget and the cinematography and a lot of the design felt... well, not particularly inspired. I love the look and feel of the Smith episodes, they feel grander, on a more epic scale and everything feels more... polished, I guess? But there were some great looking episodes if my memory serves me correctly, but I like the feel of the Smith episodes more in that regard.

But RTD had some great stories.

Ehhh. Series 4 had some awesome stuff, but the finale was just a mess in my opinion. The "Everything plus the kitchen sink" approach. It just felt bloated and like fan fiction. Same with the specials. Except Waters of Mars. That was fantastic.

Has Doctor Who ever had a "bottle episode" set only on the TARDIS?

I'm not counting something like "Time"/"Space".

I never liked where 10 left off with Donna. That sorta pissed me off. And him screaming at her Granddad was uncool though he at least made up for that kinda.

Donna was the best Companion of the RTD years.

I hold her up with Rose as the best.

And it's such a 180 compared to her in The Runaway Bride.

The finale episodes in series 4 are so so so much better than series 3's finales.

Series 3 set up for finale> series 4 set up.

But the series 4 finale does not piss me off anywhere near the level that series 3 does. Mainly because the set up is nowhere near as strong.

That pissed me off. Donna was the best companion of the RTD era, I agree. But she got royally fucked over at the end. And 10 was too whiny at the end, even if I liked the visiting all the friends before he "died" at the end.

The Edge of Destruction, a two-part serial that followed the seven-part first appearance of the Daleks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Edge_of_Destruction
Amy's Choice is entirely in the TARDIS as the other scenes are in dreams.
While it's not in the TARDIS, Midnight kind of counts as the Doctor and a bunch of other people are trapped in a tram.
