Doctor Who Series Seven |OT| The Question You've Been Running From All Your Life

Did not River Song told the Doctor that he visited her one day with a surprising new hair cut?

She did, but that particular scene appears to have played out on one of the dvd extras already. We see the Doctor in a suit, taking her to the place she mentions. He non-verbally acknowledges to a past version of himself that this is his last trip with her, as well. The haircut wasn't that drastic, it seems!

I have been thinking about the Name of the Doctor episode and the upcoming specials.... and since we have just rewatched S5/S6 again (in other news,my girlfriend is now a Doctor Who-convert...Blink and the Beast Below did the job :p), some of the references meant a lot more than they did initially.

When the blue dude says "they still await you, Doctor....the fields of Trenzalore, the fall of the eleventh", I am more and more sure that he is referencing THE SAME EVENT. Which means that the end of S7 actually is more dire than it seems. It is almost as if all that the Silence wanted to prevent is the Doctor somehow opening up his own prison where that lost incarnation of his were tucked away.

I have a feeling that the 50th will take place inside his timestream, or it will be very closely related to that... but then again, supposedly Matt will still do the Christmas episode, and I do not know how that would be played out. 11th is heavily injured, still has to do something and gets killed in the process around the end of the christmas special? Dunno.

BUT: My point is that in hindsight, the events are more dire and serious regarding the Trenzalore stuff than it seems at first glance, or that is how I feel about it anyway.

i wanna get into the series, where do i start that it doens't take me 3000 hours to get up to date?

Hmnn, you can't go wrong starting with Christopher Eccelston's 9th Doctor, it's a fresh start of the series. I would say after you gotten to Smith then would be a great time to check out the classic Doctors. Well, that's how I did it anyway.

well this is a great way to start, now i'm gonna wikipedia this :/

If you wanted to you could start from series 5. Thats where Matt Smith becomes the doctor, and he is the doctor that we are currently on. I might not be recalling some minor stuff, but for the most part a series is an island onto itself. Most characters from the Ecclestion period (Series 1) and Tennent period (series 2-4) do not carry over. There is the exption of River Song. Shes important, and I screwed some major stuff from her story by watching the Matt Smith stuff first. However, you can still appreciate her story, and the majority of it is actually revealed in the Smith era.

If you would however want to experience her in chronological order go watch "Silence in the Library" which is series 4 and then start on series 5.

With all of that being said though, the doctor changes a lot through out those first 4 seasons. Someone who watches season 5 first is going to have a dramatically different view of who the Doctor is than someone who has seen all of the new seasons. Its very odd and I have to imagine that its because the viewer is almost like a comapnion. If you start off being Amy instead of Rose you dont see the stuff that changes David Tennant, you dont see all of that anguish and joy. You dont see how he changes Captian Jack, or what hes connections to the other time lords are, you dont see how time after time after time the daleks just beat him down mentally. You dont see the first apperance of the creppy statue people. All you see is an overly happy madman in a box.

You can start Doctor Who with S5, The Eleventh Hour. Then continue with Beast Below.
Now it is time for some flashbacks. First, watch The Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead episodes from S4. Then, watch Blink. After that, continue with S5, so when the time comes, the knowledge from both Blink/Silence in the Library will come in handy.

I wish I had done it this way, would have saved me a lot of "WHAAAT"-time.

Chalk me up as a vote for starting in 2005 (Doctor Who, Series 1). It has a blonde girl and a bloke in a leather jacket. It's very uneven, but you just need to give it that "let it grow" attitude. If you're too impatient for that, 2010 (Series 5) is a good point too, as mentioned above.

i'm gonna start with the 2005 one, and imma gonna stream it, so i can go at it full force :p

It's time i gave a break to star trek (currently on season 2 of enterprise)

So, essentially telling him to start with the worst stuff and then get to the good stuff with Nine and Ten?

The missing episodes saga is getting outright bizarre now. Bleeding Cool have been giving out a story that there are, in fact, 90 episodes held by some unknown and shadowy figure, who's been refusing to return them until Moffat resigns from the showrunner post (???). Caroline Skinner was the liaison (this has been hinted to have been related to Moffat and Skinner's infamous argument), and RTD was involved in some respect.

There's a TV series in this, I swear.

I mean, stranger things have happened, but that to me reads like some Reddit-style connecting of unrelated dots.

Pretty sure this is just sensationalist talk. I doubt any Who-fan would really be this disgruntled that he/she blackmails the BBC/fandom by not releasing missing episodes unless Moffat goes.

That just sounds like utter, utter bullshit to me. It's so fantastical I don't even know where to start.

Kuwabara, I know you hate Moffat but this is taking it too far.

Well the bleeding cool link says the BBC has got some stories back and the others are in negotiations, a trailer may appear on an upcoming DVD. One of the demands may have been that Moffat step down, but that didn't happen.

The rumors this show generates are in a class of its own.

FTFY.

I second this, just start with the new series. The old ones can be kind of hard to watch now (at least in my experience) and are best approached as someone with a pre-existing appreciation for the series and not someone just looking for entertainment, if that makes sense.

Bleeding Cool said:
The rumour stands that whoever hold the films wants the films to be properly treated, with full restoration, the use of vidFIRE and the like, while BBC Worldwide wanted to release them quickly in the format they arrived in. And that has caused the delay, in negotiation and release.

Don't believe this. BBC have always been very good at restoring stuff, and I saw a Twitter comment from the Restoration Team recently that said they weren't busy.

I just watched every episode of the 2005 series in like 2 weeks.

Holy. Shit.

Just in case, massive spoilers for all seasons aired that I just marathonned through haha.

I can't even begin to . . express . . put out feelings . . I can't . . FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Incredible ride. Holy shit incredible ride.

Off the top of my head. I'm just going to ramble and rank according to favorites.

Matt Smith > Eccelston .. Tennet. I can't really chose between the latter two, Smith is just the perfect blend of both with his own fantastic quirks. But fuck, when Eccel wen I was just falling in love with him.

Dr's Daughter (GIVE ME HER BACK PLEASE. and yes I know she's not a companion, she was just so awesome) > Clara = Rose > Amelia = Donna (barely . . damn, I grew to love her) > Martha

And I guess River goes in there somewhere. Probably in the Amelia/ Donna tier.

6=1 > 5=4 > 2=7 > 3

Nothing is as beautiful and contained as that first season (BAD FUCKING WOLF!!!!!!!!!!!!), but nothing hits as hard as season 6. Just ramblings of a mad man over here. Damn, my mind is scrambled.

Favorite episodes . .

S1E..6? That Dalek episode. Damn it's stuck with me. I was a complete Dr. Who virgin at this point so it was the first time I'd heard of them. That sunlight scene with big ears at the end was just so powerful.

Season . . 4? 3? I have no idea. The Library ep, clearly. Moffat man, what a badass. Love the entire setting, love the beginning/ending of "spoilers!". Ugh. So yes.

Every freakin' season ending. Loooved Blink. Rory and his 2000 year stint, holy shit. Watching Tennent at the end of his term, when he went back to rose, TEARS. And then the "I don't want to go!", easily the most tragic line I've heard.

Okay, I'm done.

Now there is an empty hole in my heart awaiting for November. Why the hell can't I time travel.

As someone who loves pretty much all of the show, it's great to see you seem to have done too!

Haha, ruh roh.

But I love the doctors daughter and I want more of her.

Not just me who likes S6 then.

There are people who . . don't? Does not compute. At all. 4 -> 5 -> 6 is just brilliant. 6 is the peak of it and easily one of my favorites. Then again, I love all of it pretty much so . . Ugh. I may just start over and watch it all again.

You probally have a different insight by watching it back to back, but they cut the season in two-so that drew out the season, and a lot of people weren't satisfied by the River storyline-and felt that it was drawn out over the extended season/break and a lot of people hate The Wedding of River Song, because ultimately it's a giant deus ex machina-and people feel cheated by the reveal of the Tesselecta as The Doctor's "Way out"
