Doctor Who Series Seven |OT| The Question You've Been Running From All Your Life

Series 6 had some of the finest concepts the series has ever seen, but the execution was often off. Let's Kill Hitler in particular.

Something of a failure, but a noble, ambitious failure, which I'd take over the majority of, say, 7b any day.

Series 6 also had one of my favorite season premieres ever.

If there's anything Moffat's great at, it's series openers. The Eleventh Hour, The Impossible Astronaut, Asylum of the Daleks and The Bells of Saint John are all really, really successful episodes. Let's Kill Hitler not so much, but hey, it wasn't terrible.

You probally have a different insight by watching it back to back, but they cut the season in two-so that drew out the season, and a lot of people weren't satisfied by the River storyline-and felt that it was drawn out over the extended season/break and a lot of people hate The Wedding of River Song, because ultimately it's a giant deus ex machina-and people feel cheated by the reveal of the Tesselecta as The Doctor's "Way out"

Definitely can see that, my thoughts are definitely skewed by the mass consumption. I was just talking to my little sister about 7 and how I loved it, though I would've clawed my eyes out if I had to watch episodes like the submarine one and having nothing coming immediately after. I am so glad I just never watched the show and got to shotgun it all at once.

The pay off for 6 was great to me (I mean seriously, the oldest question. The whole time, I'm like, that will never ever live up to how much it's being built, but then BAM! HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT COMING), but thinking about it, that's probably why I love season 1 so much. It may be the cheesiest with the worst effects, but it's also the most self contained. The second I noticed the graffiti on the Tardis (episode 2? maybe 3?) I was like, oh shit, there are bigger things happening here.

Easily the most engrossing part of the series, too. The overarching story lines and little hints, even if there's an entire episode about essentially nothing to do with it. Damn. love this show.

I definitely like the name of that episode more than the episode itself, but still really enjoyed it.

If you want a mindblower, Fidelis, the girl who plays The Doctor's Daughter in said episode is the real-life daughter of the fifth Doctor Peter Davison and David Tennant's wife/mother of his child!

Something else that may blow your mind: Bad Wolf wasn't really planned. It was something Russell T Davies was writing into episodes for fun, trying to fit references in every episode - it was only about halfway through, well after filming began, that he figured out he was going to do something more with it - because everybody on the production team kept excitedly asking him what Bad Wolf is.

The Doctor's daughter is the Doctor's daughter is the Doctor's wife is the mother of the Doctor's children.

Imagine the Christmas dinners in that family.

And the first child they had together was a girl, so it's Doctor's Daughter is the Doctor's Daughter, Married the Doctor and had the Doctor's Daughter :p

Who hopefully will grow up to play the Doctor's Daughter at some point.

Wow, I did not know the former.
Blimey, that's a bit odd. I associate Peter Davison (and Tom Baker) fandom with David Tennant, from the interviews he has done.

Before this gets carried away in this thread, this is a fan-made trailer :) It was called out in the comments, but it looks like the artist disabled them shortly after.

*stops wailing*
Still, looked pretty cool though, hopefully we get an official trailer for the episode soon.

Is... is that fake, or is it a leak? I've never seen most of that footage before, unless people are compositing old shots together... but I've definitely never seen the shots of Hurt/Piper in it before.

EDIT: Actually, nah, looking now, I see it - and hear it in the dialogue. That's fucking mental, though.

Sounds like another producer has bitten the dust. Seems like Marcus Wilson is moving on, from some tweets he put out - cryptic but clear. The great Moffat producer bloodbath continues.

People really are going to just pop when they see 10 and 11 in a scene together.

It's like the british children's show equivalent of DeNiro & Pacino in Heat.

I wonder if they'll get a pre-reboot Doctor to show up and either appear in a cage via viewscreen to spout exposition
The Three Doctors
, or cleverly re-use old footage to make a subplot
The Five Doctors
.

So. Ready.

Do we think it'll be like, time stream Doctor? Or Doctor's clone dude + Rose? I'm assuming the former.

If Rose were not already confirmed, I would say timestream, but now I am not that sure. I would say it is the latter, so it is clone Doctor (half-human!) plus Rose.

Oh, and while we all freak out over Smith/Tennant talk, how awesome is it going to be to see Clara talk to Rose? I mean.... that is too much charm already for one man to handle :O

Speculative guess, made based off some very vague spoilers for the 50th:

Costume leaks & things seem to suggest Rose and the Tenth Doctor arrive at this adventure separately, and aren't travelling with each other. Based on the fact she was in another country for 3 weeks of the 4 weeks the 50th was being filmed, Piper won't be in it too much at all, I don't think.

Hopefully rose has a decent part but underplaying the companions and focusing on the doctor, doctor
and doctor
interaction would be for the best I think.

It is the same link though. It was always in 3D. You gotta read the thread to contribute to conversation.

Pfff, tell that to everybody in the "Videogame facts that blow your mind" thread.

Interestingly, this fan trailer has gotten me more hyped than any kind of teaser I've seen from TPTB themselves in the past three years. Hey, when we see the sillhouette of the Doctor looking on a city blowing up, where's that taken from? The new Star Trek movie, maybe?

I came to the same conclusion. Several of the shots in the new trailer seem to use the same photo-warping technique as the Christmas trailer (Piper and Hurt notably) and if you watch the shots of Matt Smith closely you can see some similar warping to simulate his clothing shifting as he moves.

Opening and closing graphics are pretty similar too, including what looks to be the same font on the end screen.

Anyway, pretty damn impressive. The fact that there's any debate at all just goes to prove how impressive the guy/gal's techniques are.

Still no word on a series 7 OST, I take it? I hope they don't wait until after the anniversary and/or Christmas and try to cram that in there as well.

Yeah, I really want that Series 7 OST. I also want to keep the 50th Anniversary Special OST separate.

Sadly, I doubt the one thing I wanted to happen with 11 will come true: I wanted to see him interact with Jack :(

Yeah, I am sad about that as well :(

What was the story behind that? It was scheduling conflict and nothing more, right?

Nope. Barrowman expressed that he was available, the Arrow team would have given him the time to schedule the anniversary appearance as well, yet Moffat did not want him.
