Exactly.

I'm not disagreeing with you, necessarily, but these people paid thousands for that access.
Haha, to boil it down a bit they're essentially going "Do as we say, or our future public marketing efforts will be inferior!". Like, what? Who cares?
And we Brit pay for the licensing fee that made the trailer, so the BBC shouldn't really making it exclusive for Americans.
How is this turning into a Brit vs American thing? You do know that Comic Con is international, right? Just because it takes place here doesn't mean it's in the immediate vicinity for most of us, either.
What a bunch of twats. I hope every single thing from all their series gets leaked.

US promotional activity like this is organised by BBC America, part of BBC Worldwide.
It's still being shown in America. Nobody's turning it into Brit vs American, but it's pretty funny the first footage of the celebration of a British show gets shown off exclusively in America.
We'll get it eventually I guess, no point getting angry. Think they've handled it piss-poor though.

And? The majority of American Doctor Who fans aren't getting to see this just as much as the majority of UK Doctor Who fans.
Why is that funny? It's Comic Con, it's unarguably the biggest "nerd event" worldwide. I don't see why it being in America is any sort of issue.
Of the 6-8k people in Hall H who saw it, how many of them do you think weren't from America?
They're complaining because they specifically pay to have these programs produced, and this is essentially ADVERTISING for that product, and they're being told not only that they should have paid the hundreds/thousands of dollars to fly to San Diego if they wanted to see it, they're being THREATENED with no more promotional material at all (which is weird as shit) if they manage to share whatever bootlegged versions of the trailer might exist.
Basically, Moffat is telling fans of his program that their excitement, translated to enthusiasm to spread that advertisment for them, at no charge, is a bad thing, and if they don't tamp down that excitement, and refuse to share this commercial, then they'll be punished with no more commercials from San Diego.
That whole thing is insipid. Especially when it's pretty obvious that the footage will, at some point, be repurposed into an ad that will be placed on a website for everyone to see, because that's the whole point of making it, so that more than 8000 people see it once in San Diego. Otherwise that's terrible marketing.
It's not that I feel any sort of negative sentiment to people who got to see it, American or not. I just don't think such a thing should be kept exclusively to such a small group of people.
Exactly the same shitty format as previous years, just with added threats/dickishness from Moffat.
Told y'all to cool your jets.
I remember exactly the same uproar over the trailer for "The Next Doctor" they had, and that was 5 years ago now. That trailer was never actually released.
Yeah but that was a run of the mill Christmas special with a "new Doctor" cocktease. This is the 50th Anniversary. I can't imagine myself feeling the same had they been withholding one for The Doctor the Witch and the Wardrobe....

They've done it every year. Literally every single year since 2008.
America or no, the fact remains that it's lame as fucking hell to show a trailer to a small group of fans and then threaten the entire fanbase not to spread it. It's cockfucker behaviour that encourages the people who were at SDCC to be cockfuckers themselves. And? Grrr!! Not looking like the trailer will officially be released tonight. Here's hoping tomorrow will bear the fruit we all wish to devour![]()
...I don't really see no more SDCC exclusives as being the threat they think it is.
Not even a little. Like a huge majority of the planet, getting to SDCC would be prohibitively expensive for me, so threatening to not release exclusive content at an event I'm never going to attend makes no difference to me one way or another.
Incidentally, I can't see why they don't just do timed exclusivity. That way everyone wins.

They really do need to push this one a bit harder than your standard Christmas special though. We haven't had a Twelve announcement yet or a single trailer for the 50th, and it's high time for them to start pimping both. They really need to put out some kind of trailer for public consumption at least.
Don't worry, come October you won't be able to move for it in the UK. Typical BBC show promotion begins no more than about a month ahead of time, so it's still really too early. 12 might not even be cast yet.
He's having fun and showing something ahead of time to the people he decided to show it to. He makes the show and he gets to do that. I want to see it too, but damn if people can't turn into entitled sounding babies at the drop of a hat (or in this case trailer).
He's threatening those that would leak the footage, i.e. those attending SDCC and who would go again. Of course it makes fuck all difference to us, and I would shed no tears.
I would gather it is timed exclusivity, like we're not going to get a trailer for the 50th!

This would be like promising to reveal an exclusive image from the Anniversary and it would be a pictures of The TARDIS just parked by a wall.
Things must be really messed up out there in Cardiff if they haven't actually cast Twelve yet. They have to write the damn thing and then film it, much less promote it. They really don't have that much time left, and I'm fairly certain they're not going to write a new Doctor's first episode until they've cast the actor.
What? 12 isn't going to have a full episode until some time next year. He'll be in a 10 second segment at the end of the Christmas special, which they'll probably film at the last possible second.
Supposedly. Some people like me suspect its a ruse and he'll regenerate in the special.
Moffat confirmed 11 is alive up up until at leastpage 22 of the xmas special
And repeatedly made reference to 11 dying in.the xmas special

While I'm generally on the "Don't trust the moff" bandwagon, on this one I think it's out of his hands. If they tried to do anything else there's no way it'd be kept a secret.
