IT sounds like they're really evocative of the early generations of the creature, I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Oh thank god we might be spared the column of Cybermen CLANK-THUD-CLANK-THUD-CLANK-THUDDing all over the place.

Cybermen definitely need a revam-but I hope they can avoid the cheesiness of the "Classic" look...

I think the Cybus Cybermen was a good revamp, but it didn't feel right that they were from the parallel universe, as opposed to their true origins.

Yep, this is a Gaiman episode alright.

The scene seems to be set in a (maybe abandoned?) theme park called Hedgewick's World. The park map showed rollercoasters, ghost trains and boating lakes and sand dune rides. This particular scene was inside Natty Longshoe's Castle - a faux medieval fortress complete with dressed dummies, instruments of torture and signs pointing to shops and exits (they were props, not Castellated Coch items). It seems a rag-tag bunch of fighters are taking refuge here from a Cyberman attack.

Okay :(

I like it. Looks less bulky than the Cybus ones, more intricate design, too.

Hmmm..I was hoping for something more frightening-but this is more along the lines of a sleeker, thinner revision.

I think this allows for more frightening, but it's all about how they move. The clanky clanky armed column approach was just silly, not scary at all. Their bulk was a part of why that made visual sense, so hopefully a slimming down comes with making them move better.

Hopefully! They Definetly do look better.

New design looks most interesting! Love the contoured look to the armour. Seems to really take the best bits of the older, slimmer, skintight outfits and mingles it with the modern, bulky RTD-era Cybermen.

I'm most curious for the explanation. Are these going to be the last of the Mondas Cybermen, returning at last, leaving the Cybusmen out there also? Or is this an evolution of the Cybusmen design? Moffat has never really commented - all Cybermen in his era had the 'C' Cybus logo removed from their chest anyway, but it's never been confirmed one way or another if the ones in S5/6 were Cybus or not. RTD always said the Mondas Cybermen were 'out there somewhere' still when he did the parallel world reboot (and they cameo in series 1, briefly.) Very curious about this more than anything.

However -- really dislike how in the walking shots the boots/shoes look disconnected from the legs. Like normal people's shoes do. I think these appearing as one, jointed unit 'sells' them being... well, metal men, more.

Finally watched all the episodes I was missing. It's like the shittiness of series six didn't happen. <3 Oh, and Angels in Manhattan was the Weeping Angels the way they are supposed to be and not fucking action monsters like in the series five two-parter.

edit: oh god P.S. was heartbreaking

Love the new suit. I think with lots of Cybermen together and some intimidating action they'll be pretty threatening. The face is especially great.

I wonder if they'll keep the light up mouth?

Ah the point before "Let's Kill Hitler"... I look back upon those times and smile. Enjoy it all man while it lasts. This could get ugly.

Yeah I watched "Let's Kill Hitler" too. I've been thinking long and hard about this and I've come to a few conclusions regarding the whole storyline. I'm not going to formulate them yet since there's still episodes to watch and if anyone confirms/denies my speculation it'll suck.

A really nice touch from the whole storyline is when River says
that the day the doctor doesn't recognize her 'it will kill [her]'.
Heh.

I loved "Let's Kill Hitler." Just a silly and fun episode. And Rory was in top form in that one as well.

Let's Kill Hitler is fun. I don't get the hate.

I don't get the hate on a lot of stuff, I basically love everything* this show puts out. I even loved the last episode of season six, which seemed to not be popular here. Of course, I also am a big River Song fan...

*barring Fear Her and Love and Monsters, of course. Not fond of those.

I think those two plus "Rose" with the rubberry Mickey and trash can-otherwise I've loved most of everything, but especially the 11th Doctor's run.

The only episodes in Smith's run I didn't particularly care for were MOST of "closing time" and "A Town Called Mercy". Otherwise I've loved most everything.

I love Love & Monsters. Haters be damned. :p

I can see why it's so polarising, but I really loved it. It may well go in the top ten of the RTD era for me.

Lol, I have a bit of a soft spot for that episode, mostly because of the shift in focus from the Doctor and Rose to different people who are affected by the Doctor, and also because of Marc Warren's acting.

While completely tasteless, I thought that was a pretty hilarious joke.

The concept about the episode is wonderful - the bad bit is Peter Kay, and how that monster actually looks. In fairness, the concept of the Monster was from the winner of a Blue Peter competition (for US folks, this means it was designed by a kid)... I think?

EDIT: Yep. Designed by a nine year old in both look and concept - RTD adapted and built a story around the competition winner's monster. That's why the next Blue Peter competition was something less central - 'Design a TARDIS console' - which is what they use without a shell in The Doctor's Wife. They're doing another one of these competitions next year, they said in DWM.

As far as Let's Kill Hitler goes, it's a fun episode. A bit light on substance. A lot of fluff, but it has some of Matt's best performances in it as he 'dies'. Really nice bit with the companions - "there must be someone I haven't screwed up yet!" - the very definition of that character. I also loved Mels, shame there wasn't more of her. I think the greatest crime of the episode is that the wonderful historical setting is completely wasted for a sensationalist episode title and a few throwaway gags. At the same time, I can see why - they wanted The Doctor to meet Hitler, but they can't exactly have him running around as buddies as with most historical figures.

I like Love and Monsters because of the focus on this random person affected by the Doctor's existence throughout his life. I thought it was a great idea.

The monster sucked, though. When the big reveal happened, all I could say was "what the fuck is this shit?"

The "love life" bit in the end had me laughing, partly because I couldn't believe they just made that sort of hint in Doctor Who.

Let's Kill Hitler is fun. I don't get the hate.

It's fine for something to be fun or silly, but Let's Kill Hitler is just non-stop zaniness with absolutely no structure to it. I suppose that's fine for people who like that sort of thing, but that's not what Doctor Who should be, in my opinion. Too much Mary Suing and random characters appearing out of nowhere to fill plot holes which didn't even need to exist in the first place.

I also think it's a shame that it wasted some potentially cool story ideas which are set up in the first 10 minutes in favor of having River Song wandering around a city making quips for the next half hour.

If there's one major problem I have with it its that they blew the concept of "Lets Kill Hitler" on that

I agree with that. If Let's Kill Hitler was a standalone episode I think I would have enjoyed it more (and not to speak for everyone, but I think the general reception of the episode would have been better). The fact that the overarcing story was jammed into the episode made it less fulfilling. Combined with the terrible conclusion of The Wedding of River Song, it really made the second half of the season 6 story arc feel wasted and incomplete.

I enjoy all of the Matt Smith era episodes, but whenever I do a rewatch those two episodes are the ones I skip for sure.

Let's Kill Hitler, to me, was alright. It was the episodes that follow it in season 6 that I was referring to with my ' this could get ugly' comment.

But the overarcing story has been jammed into nearly every episode during the Moffat era.

It's really interesting. I've found the entire Smith run to be almost entirely devoid of both completely terrible episodes and duodenum-splatteringly amazing episodes. Even the ones universally fapped over here I've felt were solid but flawed (eg, the "hey, we're saved at the final moment by a heretofore unannounced feature of the TARDIS" bit in Gaiman's ep). In contrast, RTD's tenure was supernaturally all over the place, ranging from perhaps contenders to the worst-ever stories of the show's entire run to episodes that rank up there with Inferno and Fenric.
