To some, they do not give a fuck. They don't care about anything about he character and play the game regardless. Good for those people.

Others like myself,

Call me a bigot, redneck, or whatever name you want to call me. When I play a story based game, Ilke to picture me in the eyes of the main protagonist. When I see characters like in Intergalactic it puts me in a situation I do not want to be in. I'm not down for the modern Gen Z identity politics or gender swaps. I am an old fashioned guy where a man has their place in the world and women have their place. I do not expect to see a lot of women brick layers or garbage men just like I do not expect to see a lot of men in women's spaces.
The sad fact is, I know exactly what I am going to get out of a woke game like intergalactic. It's going to be a girl boss narrative where she is better at every thing than anyone else and if there are any men involved in the game they are going to be some blue haired soy boy type. I like to play traditional stories that reflect the way I see the world or atleast a character I can believe in. Lara Croft is an example of a female character done properly vs some Steroid manly looking chick like Abby in TLOU2. As far as stories that are based in far out fantasy I wish no sexuality or politics to be involved.

My point is story means a ton to me in a videogame. There are a ton of great games I cannot play anymore personally because the story ruined it for me but that is just me. A great game can have a great story like a full motion picture. I purposely do not watch woke films like from the Woke Disney company in the like because it is simply stories I do not wish to see or have any value too. Thats just me and maybe you don't give a shit less. Does it matter to you?

The problem is "woke" varies too much depending who you talk to.

Is the "woke" just body type 1/2 or a/b? No, it has no effect. I think it's incredibly dumb, but I still like Elden Ring, BG3, CyberPunk, etc. despite this option

Is the "woke" filled with shaming white people, lengthy quests and dialogue about being non-binary, trans, how I as a player should feel about this, maybe extensive dialogue on the patriarchy? I'll pass and won't buy.

Sometimes it feels like it but some of the best games I've played in the last couple years have been woke af.

I was just about to buy a psvr2 for the new alien game, when I wisely decided to check if it was woke. It was, so I cancelled the game purchase and the psvr2 purchase too.

Turns out the biggest baddest alien is a girlboss.

The third tier is what most of them are

I can tolerate a lot of things. TLOU didn't bother me at all but the new Dragon Age did. It literally had lectures on how to properly address a non-binary person.

Stuff like this is not what I will spend my money on.

I agree with this. There's a scale, kinda.

According to some ppl Disco Elysium is woke too.

So usually no.

In the case of extremes, Dragon Age for instance, yes, zero interest
But not just due to woke, zero faith in Bioware since Anthem really.

The third tier is what most of them are
Aside from Veilguard, which games actually have this?

Absolutely. Woke game developers and people in the entertainment industry actually make me feel worse about myself than even their alt right nemesis. They make me feel worse for being a lesbian than conservatives do for not being straight. As soon as they learn that I care about my appearance, while also liking things that are "male gaze" all hell breaks loose.

I wonder, is there a generally agreed upon list of western video game developers that are considered to be woke dei companies? Naughty Dog, Bioware, EA? I have never played a Rockstar games video game, but sometimes I see people call them this so correct me if this is not true. Also, I hear the same whispers for CDPR. Is there a truly agreed upon consensus?

This. Poll should add a "depends" option

It's a factor but not really the sole deciding factor. Unless you mean an unappealing player character which is absolutely a dealbreaker.

My definition of woke is real simple:

It's so called victims versus victimizers and blame the white man for any problem X race has. Also the Patriarchy! We cannot forget about that. It's an idealog state that people believe in. Most of the woke people blame others for their problems and not themselves.

I mean, gender roles are one thing, unattractive main characters are another. Tbh if Jordan had hair I probably wouldn't have a problem with the game at all.

I don't care that she's a female bounty hunter.

There are more games in existence than I could ever play in 10 lifetimes, why should I spend time and money on ones that are unappealing? I'll just play something else. I don't have to play every new game that comes out. There is no contract stating I must play every Naughty Dog game. It is incredibly easy to just ignore it and play other games.

I don't really like modern games, but it doesn't really have anything to do with wokeness. It has to deal with them being soulless and boring. At worst, I sort of cringe at wokeness but if the game's fun, then whatever. I just laugh at it and move on. I don't let it ruin my day.

Depends on the game.

If this was 1989 to around 2012 the wokeness would really piss me off but most modern games are so garbage I don't care.

I wasn't gonna play "generic open world UE5 QTE fest 42" anyway

Depends on the game and what exactly is considered "Woke."

We live in an era where defining one's gender in Dungeons and Dragons is "Woke", and to a number of people that's worth bitching about.

To regular non-snowflakes, probably, sure. A couple scenes don't make Spiderman 2 any less fun, Concord and Veilguard just seem to be bland games in general with little to no "Wokeness" making them bland.

to a point. if its gay relationships in my main character and trans crap. ya im out 100%. its no different than any other Media i consume. i dont like chick flicks or gay film so why would i be interested in it in games?
Imagine how gays feel being forced to do str8 relationships in games and to watch str8 relationships in films then...

Woke isn't the existence of minorities, it's the pushing of narratives that 100% goes against people's lived experiences, like having women prominently featured as Frontline soldiers in Battlefield V, or this new archetype of cis white men relegated to roles of being exclusively evil, cowardly, or weak.

Yes. Mainly 95% of the poorly written, ham-fisted, low IQ trash that makes me feel like I'm being lectured by a non-self aware child who's been emotionally manipulated and radicalized in that highly malleable brain of theirs.

If done naturally, like most real world encounters, by having much more nuance and subtlety, then no, I won't skip the game.

Context and nuance matters.

Depends, thers alot of games with woke elements that are perfectly fine, like Cyberpunk. My problem with wokeness in games is when it feels forced and the woke elements stand out and make them feel out of place, breaking the game immersion. Best recent example is Vailguard.

If i see a game with forced wokeness in it, depending how bad it is, im probably skipping it.

Nope.

Played Star Wars Outlaws, Dragon Age Veilguard, Horizon FW and Burning Whores, TLOU2, and Spiderman 2 and enjoyed them all. Outlaws for its graphics, dragon age for its combat, and Im a big sony fan so it wasnt too hard to enjoy their games. i wish MJ and Abby were attractive, but they made Aloy attrractive and she still sucked as a character so I dont think it's that.

The wokeness in these games did bother me a bit, but only when I thought about it afterwards. I am mostly upset because i know this shit is going to hurt the games and studios, and I like these studios and dont want to see them shutdown.

I dont buy this whole I need to relate to a character nonsense. I dont relate to Tom Cruise. I didnt relate to Snake. I didnt relate to Arthur Morgan. When I played TLOU1, I wasnt even a father. A good character will intrigue you. That's all there is to it. No one related to Heath Ledger's joker. We just admired the performance and his shenanigans.

If anything I saw myself on screen, I would check out. Games and movies are about escapism.

If it's a one off line from a character or some element of the character creator then I probably don't care and will just play the game. If it's a deep part of the games writing / vision and it wears it on it's sleeve frequently then yes I'll probably pass (Veilguard, Dustborn, etc).

LMAO like what is the purpose of having this in a fantasy game other than pushing an agenda. At least Last of Us is set in reality. Still there is ZERO need for any of this in any game.

It depends on the situation. If it’s just some TYPE A TYPE B body shit at the character creator I don’t really care.
