From VGC who are reporting on a Famitsu review, shame the difficulty is low hopefully its not all over too quickly:

The first Donkey Kong Bananza review has been published in the Japanese magazine Famitsu.

According to Ryokutya2089, a site which regularly obtains Famitsu earlier than most, the magazine's four reviewers gave Bananza scores of 9, 10, 10, and 9, for a combined review score of 38/40.

For comparison, Famitsu gave Super Mario Odyssey 39/40, Super Mario 3D World 38/40 (10/10/9/9), Super Mario Galaxy 38/40 (10/10/9/9), and Super Mario Galaxy 2 37/40 (10/9/9/9).

According to a summary of Famitsu's Donkey Kong Bananza review,
its reviewers praise the destruction gameplay and platforming movement of DK, but call its story weak and overall difficulty relatively low.

Donkey Kong Bananza will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday, July 17. Recently, Nintendo showcased new details and info on the Nintendo Switch 2 game, including the reveal of long-time series character Pauline, who will join DK on his adventure.

VGC published a hands-on preview with Donkey Kong Bananza earlier this month. We wrote: "Like Mario's recent 3D outings, Donkey Kong Bananza will likely be greater than the sum of its parts – a cavalcade of ideas and mechanics that might not seem like much on their own, but together form a consistently entertaining adventure."

Last week, Nintendo revealed more of the staff behind Bananza, including the news that Super Mario Odyssey's director is serving as a producer on the game.

Flying to Tokyo tomorrow so hoping to pick up some fine Nintendo merch :messenger_sunglasses:

I just preodered the physical game, and the amiibo. I still have not beaten Bravely Default I got at Switch 2 launch, but maybe I just have to drop it in order to play this immediately. The game looks extremely promising.
Bravely default was god damn hard if I remember …

Damn, 38/40 is higher than I expected from Famitsu. That's what they gave Super Mario Galaxy. Not that Famitsu has ever been super consistent or anything, but they're usually at least in the ballpark with their scores.

I'm getting so hyped!

That was my feeling as it happens, that DKB would be too easy, partly because it's difficult to design levels where everything can smashed, and of course because smashing any difficult bits is easier than traversal.

I don't mind easier gameplay if it's still fun, but that does mean a game can feel too long if it's just a no risk run to the end of each level.

I imagine it's gonna be a similar difficulty to Odyssey, or Galaxy, or as Astro Bot, or any other main first party Nintendo games. It'll probably be a super fun, but easy playthrough, coupled with a lot of difficult optional challenges. Then probably some legit hard post-game content.

Doubt they reviewed the postgame. Which will likely be much harder.

Easy main game but harder postgame.

I honestly don't know why I pre-order games from Amazon - I guess it is just the convenience - as they always show +2 days for deliveries even for games like Donkey Kong Bananza which I pre-ordered from them back in April. Yet my pre-order is currently showing for delivery on Saturday, 19th July!!! I know they have taken £64.95 from my bank account this morning so I am hoping it will dispatch today for delivery tomorrow.

The annoying thing is that the game is currently showing on their website with a 17th July release date for delivery tomorrow and if I order a copy now then it will show in my orders as coming tomorrow. So why doesn't my pre-order also not show that? Do they not ship on a first come, first served basis?

Going forward, I may just pre-order all my physical first party Switch 2 games direct from Nintendo as they offer free delivery and are very reliable. I got my console direct from them with Mario Kart World on cart and it arrived early on release day, plus I've got the Donkey Kong and Pauline amiibo on its way from them for delivery tomorrow.

man the image quality is nuts. I am absolutely loving it so far. Just been running around smacking the shit out of everything and watching the glorious destruction animations. This truly feels like Nintendo's next gen.

Holy shit, IGN guy has 50 hours in and still not complete

This is the difference between Nintendo and anyone who tries to Copy / be inspired by them.

Nintendo make 10s and 10s of hours of content that surprises and intrigues. Others come extremely close, but they are lucky to stretch to the level of Nintendo 3D platformers. Content alone, then they usually copy key Nintendo mechanics.

30 minutes in and I'm ignoring everything, just smashing stuff constantly. Oh boy I'm going to lose a lot of time to this game.

Also just a side note, game doesn't look as great as the trailers? Thought it'd look a bit cleaner.

Yeah. Either it leaked or some people have fast shipping.
Bit of both. I've watched some vids and some were received a day early in Australia.

I would avoid watching videos for those that don't want spoilers. Final boss and a all bosses video were up among others.
