You're not Uzbekistan. I know full well where Chile (and the rest of the South American countries) are on a map.

Quit thinking all Americans are morons!

I'm only thinking it about you.

I actually admire America and I haven't given up on it. I wish that it makes the same gracious retreat of the empire business that the British made.

Yeah I know you call it jelly but it's really jam :p

Nah, it's jelly. Jelly doesn't have the fruit in it, just the juice and pectin to thicken it. You leave in the mashed up fruit, it's jam. You don't mash the fruit up as much, it's preserves. (I'll let you in on an American secret. That last post was just a little American humor. We take our jellies, jams, and preserves quite seriously down South. In the American South. Of course you can use jam if you want. Because America is a free country. America? America.)

But seriously, I know our country has done a lot of harm and a lot of good in the world. We're a giant and what we do reverberates across the globe because of it. As for our troubles at home, well, it's very complicated. It's not as simple as Americans as a people being stupid or callous, though some are. I mean, do some of you from smaller countries even comprehend how truly goddamn large and varied the nation is and what that means for logistics?

Being so large and vast and fractious, America is hard to govern and provide infrastructure for. There are some 300 million of us and we don't have the benefit of a common race, culture, or religion to get us all moving in the same direction. Just some nebulous, shifting ideals and a general desire for a happier, better life.

And you've got to remember, a lot of the old countries sent us their general undesirables to their own benefit throughout the history of this nation. So when Britons and others complain about our fundamentalist streak, remember that your nation cast off your zealots and peasants here when it was convenient instead of dealing with them in house. So yeah, we have poverty, superstition, and ignorance in abundance in many areas. When you're a dumping ground and magnet for the poor, the ill-educated, and the hopeless, you're going to have more of those sorts of people.

But that's okay. Taking in those people and giving them a chance to improve their circumstances and in turn strengthen the nation is what we're about. Or tell ourselves we're about, at least. It's of course not as simple as that in modern America as the game is currently pretty rigged, but it's still a noble sentiment.

Basically, I still think America on the whole means well. I know some really don't like us being the leader of the moment, and for legitimate reasons, but would you honestly prefer Russia or China over us?

It's been about a decade since the last time I've been to the US, and I remember having a lot of fun in LA. But then again, that was right after a trip to the UK...

Junior, please.
I've given up on America. Used to be amazing, now it has more problems than it can actually fix and is heading down the tubes. I would love to look back in 20 years and say I was wrong.

who are these guys?

its a quote from a tv show.
Well it's also a line from a song from the 80s. I don't know what show you're talking about or if it came before that. If you start typing the line into Google the first thing that pops up is Lee Greenwood and the lyrics from the song.

Oh great, now this thread is about my country. Don't worry I'll try to remember that my country is not perfect the next time you start a war based on false evidence and I want to give some criticism.

I complimented your country?

I believe the point of my post was your critique would be more solid if you had any real world experience on the subject you seem so authoritative about. Your armchair judgment is what it is.

Of course, I can play this silly game, too. I'll try to remember my country isn't perfect next time we're asked to step in and give you guys $33 million in economic aid.

Well I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free.

Haha, this "America is the only truly free country in the world" shit is always funny, and I'm never sure if people who say it are serious or not. How the hell do you think Swedish society works, for example? Sure, we have higher taxes than you (which gives us universal healthcare and stuff), but do we have less freedom? No. Well, we're less free to buy guns and kill each other with them, I guess.

Look at his other posts in this thread.

Do you think he's being serious?

Also I've spent 31 years here in good ol MERICA and I'm yet to hear a single gunshot that wasn't at a gun range.

He doesn't care if the person he quoted is being serious or not.
He's not actually responding to that poster or having a discussion. He's simply using the post as a platform to discharge some pent-up anti-Americanism. I remember the avatar, he makes those kinds of post frequently.

Pull all the aid! Fuck the Chileans!

We're sponsoring teh terrorists!!!1!

Why are you guys falling for this? The guy quoted ridiculous lyrics from a ridiculous country song. As stupid as that song is, I don't recall the line about Sweden being an oppressive regime.

As far as governments go, fundamentally neither socialism or capitalism are indicators of individual freedom.

One big problem in America is that unlike you guys, many of our citizens value individual rights and freedom above the collective good. Hence why the concept of enacting socialist policies (e.g. raising taxes to implement universal health care) terrifies lots of Americans. There are tradeoffs with our policies, which almost always favor the individual over all else.

One big problem in your country seems to be (outsider, uninformed opinion) difficulty in assimilating immigrants with different value systems.

Haha, okay then... I dislike certain aspects of America, yes, but I also really like other ones. I'm certainly not "anti-American", I just think you've got some things damn wrong. And the "USA #1" thing (even if most people in this thread are not entirely serious about it) does get a bit tiring for the rest of us.

Yeah, we definitely have issues there, and with other stuff. Sweden is certainly not a perfect society by any means. We're better than you in some ways, worse in others.

I'm sorry. But yes it does. It really does. No, really. Sorry.
During my time in the US I almost became an anti-alcoholic

That is such a ridiculous statement since the U.S. is made up of so many different cultures there is no uniform "American beer". Different techniques are used so I don't understand your statement. It makes no sense.

Legal Marijuana. We're working on it. Two of our states have legalized it for recreational use. What has your country done? Jack shit.

HAHA, marijuana been legal here nationwide since 2000 for any uses,.

also, gay marriage is legal nationwide since 2010.

Man people are salty about the fact that some of the best beer in the world is made in the U.S.

It's OK the same thing happened back in the 70's when California wine fucking stomped French wine in blind competitions.
