DOOM: The Dark Ages - Cosmic Realm First Reveal Trailer

Cosmic realm? Horrors from space? This is Quake lol.

All this stuff about parries and dodges and opening chests is the least DOOM thing ever, but it looks like a cool game nonetheless.

edit: love how Hugo sounds like a child when describing the weapons and saying their names. It's clear that this dude enjoys his job like no one else.
edit 2: added a spoiler there since the video is kinda spoilery too.

Spoil the whole damn game why dont you. Damn. Not watching, Day 1 regardless, love what this team has done making each game its own unique experience.

Can't wait! I still wish they would've incorporated traditional multiplayer this iteration, but it's all good, I'll survive. I'd like to think that whenever they revisit it, be it in DOOM or Quake, I'd like to think it'll be better than ever.

Always thought of Doom as a single player title myself. Has the MP ever been a big thing?

Is there a lore reason why I become excited when watching Doom trailers?

Because you're a man and Doom is metal as fuck

Like you wouldn't believe. According to Masters of DOOM it was the kickoff of the deathmatch craze. I was too young to remember myself.

One of the reason Carmack and Romero fell apart is that Romero wouldn't do shit for DOOM II because he was busy playing DM in DOOM.

I haven't played Doom (2016) or Eternal. Should I play them first or start with this one since I understand it to be a prequelna?
They are all good for different reasons. Story isn't important, just shoot shit and profit.

Personally I'd play them all if I was you in no particular order. Eternal and 2016 are on GP if that matters.

I meant more of the newer ones, but I didn't play OG Doom online either to be fair.

More of a Quake man myself back in the day.

oh. No I don't think they ever became too popular.

DOOM's 16 was developed by another dev and wasn't too reminiscent of the old games. Imo it played more like Halo or something like that.
Eternal's was some asymmetrical stuff where you could play as demons and I never read about anyone giving a single fuck about it.

That's right I remember now 2016 was by Certain Affinity. Yeah I think I gave it half a day and never went back.

There was a community but I wouldn't call it big. Quake and Unreal were big. Doom was more about ball-breaking WADs.

John Romero loved him some DM though.

Yeah this game was described as Doom meets Quake, hence the dark ages, nail gun, settings, etc.

Yeah like a was saying I was well into Quake back in the day. Game was awesome.

Think I overdosed on Arena at one point. Good times.

"Premium singleplayer campaing" stated by the dev seems very accurate, and builds trust here, unlike that "premium" marathon devs used, that didnt build any trust in marathon's audience :D

This is awesome and going to open up a bunch of new doors to the story for future games. I doubt we'll be done with all the big bad of the Cosmic Realm in this game so a future sequel could continue using the Cosmic Realm and maybe even some other alien races like the Stroggs from Quake.

That's wild to me! Multiplayer was HUGE for the original game(s). It's honestly why a lot of people are kind of bummed that it's being shelved this time. Well, and how Eternal's multiplayer component was handled. They were the creators of it, and honestly paved the way for something new that almost every other game that came after wanted and almost HAD to incorporate to keep up to some degree.

Yuuuuup!

Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM were my first FPS experiences and it made me fall in love with the genre ever since I was a kid. 41 now, and it still bums me out that nowadays we get FPS titles that just feel like they're lacking in content compared to what we received in the FPS hay day. I mean, almost every game had a combo of campaign, multiplayer, and sometimes had coop. Some even came with map creators/builders to encourage map creation. Nowadays we can't even get the same expectations and it's a shame IMO.

I still have the fondest of memories with deathmatch/multiplayer in Quake, Quake 2, Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, UT, UT2003, UT2004, Blood, Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem 3D, AVP, AVP2.... the list goes on and on. That's not even including mods that existed for so many of the games too!

DOOM 2016 was so exciting to me because we went back to having what felt like a full packaged game full of content. A campaign, multiplayer, and an extra component, which in this case was Snapmap. I was hoping it was going to bring back the norm of content you'd expect in that kind of game, but it didn't, unfortunately.

When two universes collide. This is the natural evolution of things 💪
I honestly felt like it's what they'd be doing, and it's definitely looking more and more like it.

It makes me really think that once The Dark Ages and its DLC is released, maybe they'll start working on a new Lovecraftian Quake in-house. It'd really make sense to me. I mean, Quake Champions has been barely hanging on for a LONG time. It's WAY overdue. I feel like this would be when they revisit multiplayer in a big way, at least I certainly hope they do.

Buzzing for this, It seems more and more like there lineing up some sort of crossover with Quake at some point.

What the fuck is Sony land though ?

Just don't make it a BR or an extraction shooter trend chase.
