Doom: The Dark Ages is a flop

The only gloom was from the usual suspects, it's a great FPS and was a blast to play.

Doom enters 16th spot within two weeks of launch, and being available on Gamepass and it's an utter failure apparently. Sonys only developed exclusive Astro never charts, never hits top 20, that's fine but.
You're suggesting that AstroBot is a commercial flop?

It's cited by Sony, of all people, as increasing PS5's sold in recent periods and has also encouraged them to further expand into family orientated titles in the future.

Bit of a weird comparison.

There are 80m PS5's out there and Astrobot has sold just over 2m copies. That's a hell of a flop in my book.

If you use context clues you can see that they're not denigrating your favorite game Astro Bot at all, they're lifting it up to show a game can be considered a success and still not shatter the top 20. "Weird," right?

Nah, it's just more SonyToo on this forum.

But using a widely acknowledged commercial and critically acclaimed game in comparison to Doom Dark Ages, they have missed the mark.

I hope it gets a good discount soon, would love to play it on PS5 or PC, but nog for 80 bucks, 30 would be cool.

I'm only interested in games that have a lot of vagina and bussy.

Astro charted 2nd on a single platform in September when it released. Doom isn't an exclusive it's on 3 platforms and also charted 2nd. 16th isn't impressive in May for a YTD. It will likely be out of the top 20 by September as the evergreen titles and new bigger releases accumulate sales as normal.

Gamepass kicking in. You can joke as much as you want, but it's going to be a BIG problem for the whole gaming industry once the customers are breeded to receive AAA games for free, on day one.

By this logic, every multiplatform game is a flop. There are 80M PS5's, 100M switches 500M steam users and thats already assuming that half the accounts are bot, and twelve xboxes. A game selling 30M copies os a flop if it's on all those platforms.

Eternal: sets up the demon invasion from previous one nicely, establishes the lore of what happened before 2016, aka the dark ages, shows the story of humans loosing a fight against demons and begging for a miracle, the miracle shows up as doom guy as you clean earth, you listen to a lot of audio logs praising your arrival, there is also perfect comedic timing with the doom guy and humans, you unleash a god, you fight a literal god and destroy hell, etc.

The Dark Ages: you fight some spoiled prince demon who wants to be boss, you learn what you already knew from previous games with some minor things added on top, you watch a femboss, you act cool in a few scenes like being undead(the only time I enjoyed TDA's story), you fight the spoiled demon brat twice and his female mage boss, the lore you find is abysmal, just details the locations you visit not much else, the end.

To be fair prequels have a disadvantage. I didnt want a prequel tho.

One thing has surprised me about this recent crop of Doom games (2016 onwards) is how little multiplayer there is.

For the game that invented deathmatch, it should have at least that. Basic player vs player.

I'm not surprised, the MP was widely regarded as the weakest part of the 2016 package. It was also the focal point of the poor early previews before the final game came out and the amazing SP campaign floored people.

I wouldnt call it a flop, but after playing through it, there was really nothing special about it IMO. A 7 is what i'd give it, or an 8 at the highest.

Lack of enemy variety and the fact that you could pretty much bulldoze your way through the whole game using your shield and the parry move made it feel really meh by the time you're at the end. The last 3 chapters though were really cool.

I enjoyed the game. I didn't think the Mech sections were that great, but everything else was good.

I couldn't agree. It honestly feels wrong IMO. No coop or deathmatch is a really odd choice considering the legacy it created.

I mean, they did add a bunch of DLC to it, and people still play it to this day from time to time. So it's not nearly as bad as you may think. I played it for quite awhile as well and it was always populated.

Yeah, I've always been a huge DOOM fan, and I thought it was fine. It wasn't bad by any means, but it also wasn't incredible IMO either. But I had enough fun the entire time and still beat it. I'd still recommend playing it, especially if you're a fan. I just wish it had more content, there's just nothing else there.

Yeaaaaah, I personally would've rather had more regular levels than the mech and the dragon bits.

Thread starter and a few people here will mysteriously disappear in the next month sales chart when Death Stranding 2 performs lower than Doom TDA.

If your wife was having sex with other people but still coming to you first would that devalue your relationship with her? You still get her so it's fine? More people get to enjoy her and you don't lose her so, no problem at all right?

While I commend them for refreshing the formula, it is not Doom.

To me the last true Doom is 3.

Come at me. xD

EDIT: I should clarify: modern Doom - to me at least - lost the original tone. Doom 3 is all about sci-fi horror. Newer games brought back part of the original gameplay, but progressively strained away from that core aesthetic.

I mean Doom is more family friendly than Death Stranding.

A marine killing demons, okay, but a guy at work while taking care of an infant without his mother ? What kind of dystopian future is that ?

What are the sales numbers? Do not play this, but isn't it easier to use actual data to see if the game has done well? Has there been any numbers released by the publisher of sales and not players played?

Can someone point me to the sales data with hard numbers? All I see is people happy or angry that the game are number 2 on a list and arguing over it.

It's MS. You will never know.

I'm still waiting for it to look better on pro. Last time I checked it had some piss filter constantly on.

The HDR in it was busted when i finished it a few weeks back. There were tweaks you could do to make it look decent, but overall, it was washed out and muddy in HDR

Oh that's too bad, I loved the story in Eternal, and haven't played DA yet (I wait for a Switch 2 version, to play with mouse controls).
Dont do that to yourself (Switch 2).

If you enjoyed the story in Eternal, this one will feel better IMO.

Eternal had this whiplash feel where they start going logical, from simply killing demons, it introduces new factions, worlds etc.

This one doesn't have that, its consistent throughout.

I have tried going back to it a few times and I enjoyed previous Doom games but I just start getting bored fairly quickly, just not for me I guess

Its criminal that a game like Astro has sold 2m copies, that game was a lot of fun imo

I feel like I should get it...if only so my PS5 Pro actually gets some use. I bought it on Day 1 and have barely played it once. I only played Jedi Survivor on it...which I had a blast doing. It was the best performing version of the game I had played.

Astro is well worth the purchase but Doom not so much but your mileage may vary :)
