How do I use the courier in my inventory? Do I need to buy a "recipe" to summon it? What is the purpose of the stash and quick buy slots?
Just click the courier like you'd activate any item. Afterwards you can upgrade it to flying just buy purchasing the flying courier, no activation needed.
The stash is there to hold your extra items that you purchased either while you're away from base or if you're out of inventory space.
The quick buy slot is there so you don't have to sift through the store layout for items you want.
They get helm to stack Ancients, not for lifesteal.
I'm a terrible invoker. I can't do any damage with him.

So I need an animal courier first, and then the flying courier is an upgrade?
My items are bound to kp_6 and kp_4 and such. What key combo is that?
Key pad on the right side.
Is there some reason I can't think of that they are bound to those keys by default? I can't understand for the life of me why something so important would be put somewhere so inconvenient.

Most Drows I see get Helm of the Dominator. You shouldn't be using Frost Arrows all the time, anyway. Only use it to reapply the slow effect. Or so I've read. I find Drow utterly boring so I don't play her ever.
Just click-drag the mouse to select you and your images and focus on whatever target.
Activate it when you've got a debuff on you, as it will remove said debuff. Use it to push towers. Use it to dodge some skills. All of those are relatively easy. Beyond that, you can also use it to trick the enemy - mind games and whatnot. Press C (by default, I think, although I might've changed it to that myself) to select your actual hero and get out if you need to.
*takes notes*
thank you sir (and to all that offered thoughts). I'll assume I'm more or less on the right track with that character. But yea, I thought I was supposed to use the frost arrows like they were going out of style. It's so tempting to spam Q+right-cick...and I'd be lying if I said it didn't work most of the time. Nobody gets away from level 4 frost arrows. Well...unless they have that blink dagger thing.
and yea, she's boring, but my impression is that most Carries are pretty boring. But hell...I've only used 1 or 2 of them so far so what the hell do I know? Nothing.
*shuffles off*
Only losing tonight. I blame everyone but me.
Just started coming from LoL and I *cannot* get used to not having the camera lock onto my hero. It's fucking me up so bad
Well, most LoL players use a free camera, not a locked one.
Well, most LoL players use a free camera, not a locked one. In LoL, the space bar takes you to your hero. In Dota2, you hit F1 once to select it, twice to center on it.
He should play as he wants.
He should play as he wants.
People get used to a way of playing; doesn't necessarily impede how well he might do.
You'd probably argue that some people have their sensitivity too high when playing a first-person shooter.
You can still click and hold on the minimap to have a look. Not an issue if you get used to it.
It should be in the game.
Gaf is full of poor analogies.

It should be in the game.
You click on the minimap like you would if your screen wasnt locked, which is quicker than waiting for it to scroll.
Again, it should be in the game.
locking the mini-map just encourages you to be constantly looking at your hero, and not much else where. it's a bad habit that he shouldn't be starting.
I don't follow, why would the mini-map be locked? If you needed to check ahead or anywhere else, you just click and hold instead of clicking.
I assume he's been playing LoL like that, so he's already passed the "starting stage".
Also, who is able to deny a creep from more than half a screen or full screen away?
Or if he's charging you, you can see the symbol above your head.
I was going to carry this on, but I think I've said enough.
It's not a hindrance to denying. You can still navigate the mini-map perfectly.
If you're used to it, you don't even think about it. Such an easy thing to implement. I won't say anymore than that.
I don't use a locked camera in LoL.
Good! No one should and it should never be added to Dota 2.
