How do I use the courier in my inventory? Do I need to buy a "recipe" to summon it? What is the purpose of the stash and quick buy slots?

Just click the courier like you'd activate any item. Afterwards you can upgrade it to flying just buy purchasing the flying courier, no activation needed.

The stash is there to hold your extra items that you purchased either while you're away from base or if you're out of inventory space.

The quick buy slot is there so you don't have to sift through the store layout for items you want.

So I need an animal courier first, and then the flying courier is an upgrade?

They get helm to stack Ancients, not for lifesteal.

The lifesteal is an important aspect....

The reason why you would get HoD:

-EHP (Effective Hit Points) and DPS for mid game.
-Neutral creeping longevity.
-Ability to Dominate creeps for 20 minutes.
-Scalable late game through upgrading to Satanic.
-Skirmish longevity.

Is there some reason I can't think of that they are bound to those keys by default? I can't understand for the life of me why something so important would be put somewhere so inconvenient.

For the reason I set it back to that. Yes, it is awkward at first, but once you get used to it, you will like it, and all the greater functions you have over the keyboard after that.

I used to have my items HoN-style, but then this caused the problem of being unable to do autocast. Then I put it on 123456, but this made control groups awkward on the F-keys. The numpad feels good because of that dot or bump on the 5 key. You put your middle finger on it when using items, and instantly you know where all the item keys are. It's awkward at first, but you will get used to it.

Default binds from wc3 where you couldn't change them. I would guess that they will change the default bind sometime during the beta so that beginners wont have to rebind and because no one (Edit: except Hylian7 :D) uses the keypad.

I do item hotkeys 1-4 above my qwer keys. Works out pretty nice since I usually don't have more active items than 4, and when I do, I put the less important ones on the last two slots with no hotkeys, such as arcane boots or travel boots.

Most Drows I see get Helm of the Dominator. You shouldn't be using Frost Arrows all the time, anyway. Only use it to reapply the slow effect. Or so I've read. I find Drow utterly boring so I don't play her ever.

Just click-drag the mouse to select you and your images and focus on whatever target.

Activate it when you've got a debuff on you, as it will remove said debuff. Use it to push towers. Use it to dodge some skills. All of those are relatively easy. Beyond that, you can also use it to trick the enemy - mind games and whatnot. Press C (by default, I think, although I might've changed it to that myself) to select your actual hero and get out if you need to.

thank you sir (and to all that offered thoughts). I'll assume I'm more or less on the right track with that character. But yea, I thought I was supposed to use the frost arrows like they were going out of style. It's so tempting to spam Q+right-cick...and I'd be lying if I said it didn't work most of the time. Nobody gets away from level 4 frost arrows. Well...unless they have that blink dagger thing.

and yea, she's boring, but my impression is that most Carries are pretty boring. But hell...I've only used 1 or 2 of them so far so what the hell do I know? Nothing.

*shuffles off*

She can be built pretty flexibly, but I second that suggestion that you finish a Manta Style before Shadowblade. It improves her in every respect (damage, attack speed, the active ability, a little armor), and she gets even more punishing with more Agility. For skill-builds, I must say I like maxing the aura first after I get a level in Frost Arrows and Silence by level 3 or so (Aura-Frost-Aura-Silence), maxing Frost Arrows or Silence second, depending on what I'm up against. It makes positioning even more important early, but your damage and your last hitting capabilities improve rapidly.

Well if you are playing a hard carry, you generally want a boring game, cause that means you are getting free farm. Boring is good for the first 15-20 mins at least..

Drow isn't that boring though, at least you have other useful abilities aside from right click, Sniper is the really boring one.

^^ I also agree with the manta first and maxing aura first, I would actually suggest leaving silence or frost arrow at level 2 or 3 while picking up a couple of levels of stats depending on the team you are up against and what you need. If you don't think you are going to have opportunities to get kills with arrow or silence, a level or 2 of early stats can really help a lot.

Only losing tonight. I blame everyone but me.

My team just lost with a ~25 kill lead because AM and Huskar aren't interested in taking/protecting towers. The other team can't win a teamfight or a 1v1, but they have no problem taking down every tower and letting the creeps do the work.

Wish I could chain frost my own team sometimes.

Just started coming from LoL and I *cannot* get used to not having the camera lock onto my hero. It's fucking me up so bad

Well, most LoL players use a free camera, not a locked one. In LoL, the space bar takes you to your hero. In Dota2, you hit F1 once to select it, twice to center on it.

If you hold F1 after hitting it twice it will follow your hero. Just release to move freely again. You shouldn't be playing with a locked camera anyway.

People get used to a way of playing; doesn't necessarily impede how well he might do.

You'd probably argue that some people have their sensitivity too high when playing a first-person shooter.

Those are not the same thing. This would be more comparable to having a button that locks you facing one direction while playing a first person shooter: It simply impedes you, and you need to stop using it. Dota was made off of an RTS game, where moving the camera all around the map is absolutely key!

You can still click and hold on the minimap to have a look. Not an issue if you get used to it.

It should be in the game.

Gaf is full of poor analogies.

No, it should not because it encourages people to use it! You have to move your mouse to this out of the way button to disable it, and it's ridiciulous to keep toggling it. You need to be able to move around and look at your surroundings. You have to look on the other end of the lane and see what your enemies are doing. You cannot just stay centered on your hero all day, you are simply not going to be as good of a player as you do.

I really recommend Wehsings manly riki build for pub stomping.

Phase boots + mask of madness + basher.

lol, pubbies just dont know how to deal with it.

locking the mini-map just encourages you to be constantly looking at your hero, and not much else where. it's a bad habit that he shouldn't be starting.

You click on the minimap like you would if your screen wasnt locked, which is quicker than waiting for it to scroll.

Again, it should be in the game.

If you are going to look two inches above you, you should not have to mouse ALL THE WAY TO THE MINIMAP just to do that. The map lock encourages bad habits.

I don't follow, why would the mini-map be locked? If you needed to check ahead or anywhere else, you just click and hold instead of clicking.

I assume he's been playing LoL like that, so he's already passed the "starting stage".

Also, who is able to deny a creep from more than half a screen or full screen away?

Edit: If you're used to it, then it's not an issue. Same with hotkeys, some people may have a different set up, once you get used to it, it's second nature.

You are not understanding. Lets say you see Spirit Breaker on your minimap, but he's just out of your viewing window. You need to see if he's charging toward you or not. Would it be quicker to just scroll up 2 inches and find out or go down to the minimap and click up there? Obviously you could just scroll and look!

Or if he's charging you, you can see the symbol above your head.

Edit: it's about muscle memory, is it more cumbersome, yes but I'm used to having my screen unlocked. Some people get comfortable with the way they play and so, it's not an issue.

I was going to carry this on, but I think I've said enough.

It's not a hindrance to denying. You can still navigate the mini-map perfectly.

If you're used to it, you don't even think about it. Such an easy thing to implement. I won't say anymore than that.

It's not a hindrance to denying but it's a hindrance to, uhh, gee, I dunno, EVERYTHING ELSE! You are not as aware of your surroundings. The sooner you get out of the "locked camera" mindset, the better.
