How long did it usually take most of you guys to find *your* hero? I'm still searching for one I like best.. :/

Or maybe I just need to suck less, lol.
100++ and it was Disruptor. But thanks to horrid losses in team match-making forced me to learn other heroes better, now my core ones are Disruptor, Jakiro, Dark Seer, Crystal Maiden and Sand King.

wait wat. The NS set got in? really? It's just SO different, I'm a little surprised.

I'm also surprised that they let the actual game items be re-created and submitted as their own items.. The hood on pudge looks really poorly made. At least they're getting new users' items in now, that makes me happy to see.

Thats surprising? CM has had Force Staff and Euls as items for a year now.

That Pudge hood makes him look like the pope.

Why would anyone pick Meepo when the other team has almost all aoe heroes? "Don't worry I'm a pro" No you're just asking to die, and you did die very fast I might add.

Isnt meepo weak against single target?
I mean usually single target damage > AoE and when 1 meepo dies they all die

I'm less scared of AoE than I am of powerful single target spells as meepo. Most of my deaths come while the other meepos are above 50 or 60% hp. I'd rather have 2000 total damage distributed between all the meepos than have one meepo get popped by Laguna Blade for 1200. There are obvious exceptions like Earthshaker, but heroes like Lina or Lion are just as bad.

AoE is as much of a counter to Meepo as single target spells are. They just have to focus one Meepo to kill them all.

Also, I played the tutorial in the test client and realized they left out something really crucial to new players. I hope more tutorials are planned, but I feel like this should have been mentioned: wards!

Tell them what wards are, how they give them vision, how you want them on the high ground if possible, etc. I feel like that would have gone great to throw into the Sniper part of the tutorial. They don't need to go in-depth to map warding locations, players can figure that out or use guides on the internet, or ask their teammates.

Otherwise the tutorial was great, really liked the aesthetic of the Sniper map. I think the limited hero pool is good too, none of those heroes are difficult to understand. I do hope for a tutorial that illustrates the farm requirement for carries though.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
The thing is, AoE is generally weaker than single target, by nature of being multi-targeted.

Unless it's AoE disable, which is very effective against maapo.

Yeap. Wards and invis detection. Especially when they put invis heroes (at least BH) in that limited hero pool.

But I guess a full complement of finished tutorials isn't on the checklist for their full "release", because they certainly couldn't get everything they should have covered done before Summer is out.

Maybe later they might have some more advanced mechanics missions, but putting them out post-official release won't have nearly as much impact. S'pose they can always promote a major patch like that on the front page of the Steam store, but I think first impressions are important, especially with a game like Dota which could easily dissuade new players. Especially once they realize that there's all this critical information that's not taught in-game.

That happened more than once in the match, guys, MORE THAN ONCE.

Otherworld Devourer is too fun

it's so fun during the laning phase when you're destroying your mid opponent. Then you team fight and sometimes it feels great but other times a Lifestealer runs at you raged and open wounds you and you die in 4 hits.

Next level ward traps: "They'all never see it coming!"

Also what the hell is that skill build?! Taking a random guess you started off jungling, things didn't go well and they needed you in a lane, so you said "Fuck it" and adjusted your build accordingly. Whether you are laning or jungling, max Overpower or Fury Swipes by 6. Fury Swipes is usually the better option, but I'm sure you can make cases for Overpower.

A ward hiding game? Trench doesn't ward anyway.

Why would you even want to smurf in this game? Just to beat up on the kiddies?

If you want to go higher on the ladder the best method is to start a new account and try to win as much as you can your first few games. The gains in winning are much higher for your first few matches. Beyond your first or second game, if you're just smashing your opponents you'll usually get paired in the appropriate bracket.

If you really need to do that turtorial for all new accounts then G fucking G Valve. They know how to shut down smurfs.

dota_new_user 0 is the console command to get rid of the tutorial prompts.

Most heroes need some play before you can appreciate them. Try to have a good game with each hero until you find the one you like.

I have an odd list of favorite heroes but I like kunkka, sven, bristleback, huskar, tusk, lycan, spiritbreaker, axe, lone druid, troll warlord, phantom assassin, venomancer, puck, lina, lion, invoker, witch doctor. A long list but its hard to narrow down a favorite when all these heroes are fun.

Nah, I always max overpower and the slow with 1 in FS so that I can gank from the jungle better. Doesn't effect roshing and makes you better able to jump on people if the opportunity presents. FS maxed last.

Just got off a 24 hour mute then into a 48 hours, first time I was like whatever it was probably because I played against a 4 stack earlier who destroyed us and talked a lot of shit towards my team. Next game I got on their team and decided I would do the troll NP dagon build but not throwing. Im guessing they reported me so I let it go. I get unmuted and get a 48 hour mute a game later, I didn't rage I use my mic to call ganks/smokes/strats basically captaining solo queue. I also gave good critical advice to our drow who just stopped talking afterwards. Get into a game 3 other guys with mics I can't even discuss our lanes or ask to switch or call for a TP. I think I am honestly done for now with over 2400 games until they change the mute system.

All this mute system does is makes me more frustrated and unlikely to play. Many times I've also had teammates who were muted and would have loved for them to chat. Dota is complex game and that chat wheel doesn't do shit especially in high/very high.

The hell am I supposed to do with these player trading cards? Also, do keys drop in game or do you always have to buy them?

I actually was suggested a hero my first game of DotA (1) ever: Nature's Prophet. I was told to look up some replays and especially of a guy called Shaang (on JMC at the time). His skills have remained unchanged for YEARS and it's great (they've been tweaked, but what they do has been the same).

Yea, the chat bans are bs. You can't say anything to people now, regardless of what they are doing/how bad they are playing without the potential for a chat ban.

650 games and I still didn't find mine ( but's that because Thechies still isn't in the game ). But I did find *my* role, which is support.
I have been playing with bots ever since I got my dota 2 invite. first at easy. then scaled up as I try to learn the game. Zeus was my first hero to give me a win against bots (easy).
I lost a lot afterwards (increasing difficulty) but learned from each defeat. then just the past 3-4 days been finally playing on unfair difficulty. I do not recall a win with Zeus, instead I got all my wins with Sniper or Shadow Fiend. Fond of Sniper atm.

Today I finally decided to take a gander at online. here are my results:

My first game online, 1st blood! Seems Sniper will be my mainstay for the time being. He is ridiculously easy to play with. Gonna try other heroes soon as I get comfortable with them vs bots.

Only got some questions.... is it all downhill from here and how do I upload my matches on youtube?
You should upgrade you'r boots into power thread as sniper, it probably should be the first item you build once on lane.

Well I didn't even call anyone a noob, I tried to help the team. I did help the team! Told our drow she needed a shadow blade not manta so she could dodge the juggs ult or use it to silence him and we blow him up with her initiate. Instead I get punished makes sense.

Maybe this is for the best if you're admitting to talking shit and trolling your own team in games. I don't think you'll be missed.

They just did. Somehow i doubt that your "captaining" was very welcome, most times people try to do that stuff it just sounds condescending.

I didn't talk shit never admitted it, rarely talk shit. The troll wasn't even really a massive troll just be going with a sub optimal build. I didnt say anything kept to myself.

2 guys who had mics were positive said GG nice try and thanked me. I get a lot of commends for my leadership and generally if we lose never blame or flame.

I have never seen anyone I regularly play with complain about the mute system. Some of them have way more game splay than me. They are all pretty nice in-game. Weird right?

So you shit talked your team and then intentionally went a shit build the next game because you got on their team. I bet you also shit talked in that game too. Instead of blaming the system you should be blaming yourself.

In any case the system is getting overhauled (possibly today or tomorrow) and all the mute bans are being removed to allow for the new algorithm to take effect. Maybe it won't be so harsh (although some times I wonder...)

Sorry I worded it wrong they talked a lot of shit. Funny thing is I didn't say a word but was harassed at the beginning of the game by the stack.

I generally just play by myself, I wouldn't say I had a problem until today. Like I said earlier I did get annoyed when I had muted player on my team. It took until now and I play a lot of Dota 2.

It would be one thing if anyone actually sounded like a legit victim here, but all of the complaints thus far have been self incriminating.

Also as a note I shit talk people sometimes and I haven't been muted yet. I think it takes a nasty string of games to really push you over the edge to "Well Played" mode.
