All we want is to brag them out.

He still needs to fence those crips he stole after using the fire of the factory as a diversion.

In-fact the previous staff shop workers all got sacked because they were trying to fence crisps and got caught selling them at a car boot sale to a Walkers manager.

Sounds like you were playing Single Draft mode. Probably not the mode I'd suggest. For a new player I'd recommend Limited Heroes or Least Played.
You were queued for single draft. There are tons of melee carries like master yi, juggernaut probably good for a new player because he doesn't need too much farm to do anything crazy.
Try to go with other modes, as you are just starting All Pick (all the heroes) would be fine, or Random Draft (a reduced random group of heroes to pick of)

Limited would be pretty good really, as you wont have to deal with lot of stuff you cant undestand
Thank you all :) I think I'll definitely try another mode - All Pick sounds perfect as I like the idea of picking a character (ie Juggernaught) and just sticking with them exclusively whilst I get used to the game, much in the same way I did with Master Yi in League of Legends.

And jugg may be a decent hero to try out. His spin gives magic immunity and does a good amount of damage early game (but you can't attack while spining) healing ward is a great team healing spell mid to late game, but it has 1HP, he has a passive crit which does pretty good constant dps, and his ult masks him fly though the air cutting every thing, a bit like Yi's thingy.

If you like yi's ult, try lycan. He isn't very good the first 10 minutes, but if you can get past the early game without being shutdown too hard, he is a beast. Ult turns him into a giant wolf that can't be slowed, and improves his damage.
Thank you! Lycan sounds very similar in some ways to Master Yi... he certainly starts off quite slowly compared with some characters, but if you're patient and play him right, he can become pretty much unstoppable, sounds like Lycan is similar in that regard, but Jugg has the more similar skills.

If you're still serious about Dota a week from now, I can queue with you and teach you the game. I know a lot, but I'm pretty crap in game, so our MMR shouldn't be too bad.
Sounds good, thank you! I don't have much free time at the moment unfortunately (working full time plus doing some freelance) but next time I get a chance to play Dota I'd definitely be up for a game :)

So when you say he continually summoned them what was probably happening was he had an item called a manta style where he created two illusions of himself. You can't tell which is real other than illusions take more damage and deal less.
Ah! That makes sense... I swear at times there were more than just two though, also I think he kept teleporting/randomly appearing which made things even more confusing.

Yeah, basically every single item in the game that isn't a consumable mana or health potion gives passive stat boosts. Even the ones with active abilities additionally.

As for the boosts thing: strength, agility, and intelligence grant mostly the same boosts across all heroes. Strength increases max hp and hp regen rate, intel increases max mana and mana regen rate, and agility increases attack speed and armor. But in addition heroes of that class (see how they're all divided into these three categories as well) get +1 attack for every extra point in their stat they get.
This is cool, thank you... so basically if I go an agility class and get all of the items specialising in agility, I should have fairly decent armour, and also be able to deal a lot of damage with my attack speed?

By the way, I was reading gaming.stackexchange yesterday trying to get some tips for beginners, and came across this: To be perfectly frank, Dota2 is incredibly hard. When you start to play the game, you will play your first hundred games and still feel like you have no grasp whatsoever of what you're doing. You will get frustrated with the game and at times you'll probably have to step away. But if you love the thrill of the razor's edge scenario, you'll be back. League of Legends tones that down at both extremes. When you're learning the game, you won't become anywhere near as frustrated because mistakes aren't punished as heavily. For example: the more you die, the less each successive death rewards the enemy team- a design decision clearly made with public play in mind. When you make gameplay decisions with such priorities, the peak gameplay suffers as a result.

The cutthroat style of Dota2 is simply not something that everyone will appreciate- ignoring that concept is asinine. The argument can definitely be made that Valve is overdoing it- their lack of accommodation for players looking to learn the game is noteworthy and I feel that it holds back an otherwise extraordinary game. In the end, however, Dota2's focus on high level play makes the game incredible to watch once you begin to understand its nuances, and the depth and replayability of it as an eSport is unmatched both within the genre and across all others. In time, I fully expect others to come to appreciate that.

Sounds like I'm going to continue to struggle getting to grips with this, but it should be worth it... part of what attracted me to League of Legends was the accessibility, but I feel like I should persist now and get into something new (and something arguably better)

Yeah, that's certainly fine and understandable, many do the same. The reason I recommended avoiding All Pick is that there are a handful of heroes (Riki, Drow Ranger, Huskar, Spirit Breaker, Sniper) who are picked in about 90% of AP matches, and commonly ruin games. They are not overpowered per se, but uncoordinated pub matches simply do not play against them the right way and it can be very frustrating. Either way just be aware of that and don't let it ruin your opinion of the game.

Not sure how much I agree with this. Whilst DOTA is more punishing of falling behind, though the most recent patch lessened this somewhat, Valve have put in a bunch of features like the tutorial and guide system designed to help new players get to grips with things. This was maybe true a year ago, but not anymore I feel.

The game is naturally complicated and there is only so much they can do with tutorials. uams (orbs whatever) are still SUPER confusing to people who have played for thousands of hours. I don't know how much Valve can ease someone into all of that. I think the tutorials could be better though. They're useless to anyone who is remotely familiar with mobas already, but I don't know what they could do without it being really boring.

Valve bought the tf2 wiki and I feel they missed an opportunity by not getting the dota 2 one and just throwing it completely in the Learn tab.

Starting out that way is fine while you come to grips with the mechanics, but fairly soon (a few dozen matches perhaps) you're going to want to branch out. A large part of Dota is the drafting, and knowing "oh they picked Sniper and our team still doesn't have a gap-closing ganker" is one of the keys to sucess.
Ah! That makes sense... I swear at times there were more than just two though, also I think he kept teleporting/randomly appearing which made things even more confusing.
He probably had a Blink Dagger as well, which lets you short distance teleport on a 13 second cooldown.

Yes, but there's a very delicate balance. It all comes down to a game by game basis. On an agility carry there are a lot of strength and intelligence items that I will buy if their specific effects are what the current situation requires. Its all about assessing who your allies are, who the enemy is, and most importantly how the game is going so far. If I'm playing Agility carry Spectre and the main problem so far is that their enemy carries are doing so much physical damage that I die quickly then I will totally build Strength item Heart of Tarassque which gives me a huge boost to HP and crazy HP regen.

Very true. I guess the sentence saying Valve weren't accomatating them got to me as they have tried even if not with massive success.

This is true, but your item builds should always consider the enemy, agility heroes are generally low on HP, so they can die pretty fast to magic attacks, if the enemy has a lot of magic damage, getting items that increase hp/reduce or nullify magic damage would be really good idea.

After a while you will learn to counter strats or ceirtain heroes/item builds. But it is ok if you go for a generic build at first.

I know this is probably a hilarious question to ask given the Diretide situation, but is there any info about when "Free to Play" is being released to the public?

Also, properly timed a Light Strike Array to land directly on a Wisp right as he teleported back. It was a highlight of a game where I was basically SB food for 30 minutes.

From the Reddit post this is one of the screens, does the guy have increased darkness or is there some SweetFX type thing at work? It looks nicer than mine does.
That's about how mine looks. He may be down sampling too.

SweetFX does work if you feel like being bothered.

So when is a good time to pick slark? I love the hero but I'm not sure what he counters and is countered by, which means I don't know how he fits into lineups other than a snowbally mid/safelane carry who is good at ganking and fighting early.

Just finding it hard for someone like LD, who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Dota 2, not to know a basic fact about one the greatest players in the game.
You're giving LD too much credit when you say things like this.

No on cares how long it takes you as much as we don't care how much you post.
damn.

Oh shit, those look just like mine.
I love him, but do I 1000$ love him? Debates.
Tront could be worth so much more if you play your cards right Pro. Hold hold hold

Guys I found a gif of shira and EE.
yooooooooo

DrKirby why you gotta go and post CAD in here, relevant or not :(

Pick him to go mid against a pudge. Farm without fear of getting hooked as you can pounce to safety. Get up to level 4 and kill mid. Farm more till you reach level six. Follow pudge around to counter gank. Make his life miserable. Finish the game before 35 minutes if your team hasn't got a carry. He falls off at the end so he is countered by any carry late game.

Got it. Any other heroes at all I could try against?

Edit: LOL, Bulldog says Kappa in all chat specifically so the stream chat will explode.

Why doesn't the Portal announcer ever say anything? Seriously, it's silent for the majority of the game. Guess I'll have to break down and represent Pyrion Flax.

Do you get the MLG courier for having the current MLG ticket, or is it for a seperate Columbus finals ticket?

Pipe? Or alternatively a Helm of Iron Will to turn into an Armlet..

I just found this because your reply got drowned out by all the thread shitting about Diretide and people giving Cyborgmatt a hard time.

Pipe, or even just a Hood, would have been a good idea. I didn't even think of that. But Armlet? Is Armlet legit on Viper? I thought only strength heroes made use of Armlet.

Armlet on Viper isn't legit. Go meka, if not Pipe, if not just skip health regen.

My original post was that my teammate built a Mek so I didn't want to build another one, but I really needed HP regen. So I wanted to know what the alternative health regen items for Viper were.

How can you skip regen? Having to go back to base after fights seems horribly inefficient.

Not to long ago I remember you guys talking about some plugins to remove some trackers or something on Twitch. What's it called again? I can't seem to find it.

I'm getting this shitty video lag while the audio seems perfectly fine.

Ayesee. . .

Right, so not only does he constantly keep talking out of his ass since he knows nothing noteworthy about the game, he's also the worst camera controller I've ever seen. Missed an obvious gank of Viper vs QoP to check gold chart and then says "Wow that was unexpected", alright man....

Makes you notice just how much better everything was during TI3 (except for announcers but what can you do...).
