FUCK THIS GAME.

I win all my solo que ranked games and get good teams, but like always, once I get above 47% win rate, I start getting either shit teams, or a team with people that are clearly still new to the game like the DK I was just in a game with who followed his guide 1 to 1 and did not use his BKB

how many ranked match have you played ?

Just one, but it seemed like a fairly typical match for me. I played pretty poorly that whole game. If anything I'd assume my score would go up not down from that game. I don't know maybe I'm jumping to conclusions and should wait out till my first 10 ranked games before I start poking holes into it.

I guess my question is, how is ranked matchmaking different from normal matchmaking other than letting you see your MMR?

You get a smaller player pool, no winter map, less available game modes, and nearly every Dota community online now has MMR wankery added.

Value!

Hah, went back to my first couple of matches to see how I did. First one was against a smurf who went 30-1, but second I played with Cyborgmatt apparently.

Warcarft 3 came out in 2002, you're comparing models with roughly a decades difference between them.

I'm not comparing the technical aspects/polycount which of course would be unfair.

I'm comparing the art direction. Notice how every Dota 2 hero stands out in the middle of a team fight or clash, because how well defined the form of the character's silhouette is, the colour palette used and attention to areas where there is detail in the model and where there shouldn't be.

This PDF is a fun read (mostly cosmetics designers use it as a guide) http://media.steampowered.com/apps/dota2/workshop/Dota2CharacterArtGuide.pdf

While its true Dota 2 hero designs are adapted from WC3, some quite literally like Silencer or CM and others with a ton of artistic liberty like Rubick or Legion Commander, I feel valve has done a better job in giving personality to their characters.

Compare Viper, Medusa, Shadow Fiend and Spectre to the Dota 2 counterparts.

Most of those units were just normal RTS units, not even heroes, they weren't supposed to stand out.

Feels like forever since the beta first took off after TI1 ;o

Honestly I feel like people were nicer then, but a smaller pool helped too. Still remember a select few dickheads.

Feels about the same to me.

I remember pajkatt flipping out on me because I didn't heal him as omni, even though I didn't have the mana or means to do so and he was playing super aggressive as AA.

proofsies.

This is really important to keep in mind. For the examples that were listed Viper's model was a neutral creep and never in the direct control of a player best that I can recall. The actual Shadow Fiend model was far more distinct, but just looks bad here since Icefrog made him all black. Spectre wasn't even a real unit it was a spell that was a shadow version of the original PA. I can't speak for Medusa I could argue its a bad angle, but otherwise I can't really defend it.

Finally i know who Duesy is lol.
Do i need to post again the game where i crush merlini stack guys?!?!!?!?!?! I have so many legendary #30th ranked in the world games i can't remember them all. I remember one where i managed to make Qoqjva tinker lose on my team even if he was 30-5 or something, or another where a pro that i can't remember flamed me because we lost against 3DMax stack, and another again where i literally did nothing all game but defend 4vs5 until puppey's meepo came online and raped all of the enemy team #30th DSR in the world #MerliniSlayer

yeah so the walrus was marked incompatible, I'm not surprised honestly. It's just confusing the "standards" Valve has set. Basically they said it was because of the community feedback - which is confusing because it's getting the same responses as the CM set, except that still got in, despite the hate. Even more confusing is that I can just point to the penguin and justin beaver...it's a tad frustrating, but if anything it was a lesson on where the line is.

From now on if we do any sponsored shit we're going to have the ticket maker get it pre-approved by valve so we don't waste 3 weeks of our time when we could be making bad ass sets instead. Lesson learned.
Oh god please Valve just put in Snaggletooth or Carty wtf the community really liked those

Also, check out this super bad ass Warlock summon my friend did... it's great!

That sucks man, sorry to hear it. I was reading some crap on reddit the other day where people were trying to organize mass downvoting of items that they believe break the lore (this was shortly after cat Drow). The fact that Valve are siting community feedback seems to muddy things more - are they judging the general sentiment or counting votes? Anyway, sounds like rough going out there, wish everyone luck.

Shouldn't set items have the freedom to be outside the lore as long as they fit with the hero?
I mean they are created specifically to add uniqueness to heroes players like, and they pay good money for them.

Oh...and why are people getting butt hurt over the lore of a MOBA?

Oh jeez, just noticed the father of dragon set is incompatible now

:(

What crate are these items in? Or are they the newest victims of Valve accepting items and never adding them?

They'll all from the same contributor.
There are two unreleased crates in the files. The Catakeet chest, which isn't in the schema but is in the resource files. Then there is artisan enthralled Chest, which looks like its still a work in progress (Since all it seems to drop is couriers and the Blood Chaser).

But yeah, it seems like they were approved but Vavle decided to not ship them yet. Hopefully they don't get forgotten.

Hopefully not like that Kotl mount that had been accepted since March but just added last week...

Or the Nyx hood that was accepted at the same time and still isn't in game. Or the Walock staff that was accepted but never added (and then unaccepted) or the Windrunner bow that was accepted and then never added and then unaccepted.

They really need to make sure the items are actually in-game before they accept them... they do this a lot. The Nightwatcher set and Regalia of the Bonelord were whole sets that were accepted but not added for months...

Sorry to hear. It is a very well made courier. I absolutely love snaggletooth(top 3 unapproved courier for me) and carty is cool too.
Your friends warlock summon is easily among the best. It reminds me of doom and its awesome)

Now that is a good Warlock golem!

... except it looks like he has fiery diarrhea.

I have to agree. Its the best one ive seen, but the flame effects need to be somewhere else. No very scary when youre getting killed by flaming farts :/

The fire should be between his horns

Sorry to hear man, a few tweaks would've probably made that a great courier!

Voted up that Warlock Golem, very nice!

yeah, we're gonna try to get community feedback and make tweaks if it's salvageable. I absolutely don't mind making changes to what the community would rather see. I think mike will be putting up a reddit thread soon. Obviously the stuff has to be reasonable, I'm not going to spend more than another 2-3 hours on this.. too much other stuff to do!

things we've heard so far have been: scale it down (funny because I never expected this to be a thing.. valve has rescaled couriers going in before), remove the glasses, eyebrows, and perhaps the hair. (makes me sad because they add a lot of personality), make the skin less orange, etc. That kinda stuff. We'll see what we can do! :)
