Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Simply Brilliant On PC - DF Tech Review

That lowres PS5 performance mode is just par for the course. I tried the beta for Monster Hunter Rise on PS5 today and performance mode looks like 360p base resolution. It's so ridiculously low res I just laughed and shut it down before my eyes started bleeding.

Developers don't give a shit anymore, we now have series S image quality level on "big" consoles.

Sony releases Pro to save people from eye cancer.

The opinions about the pro will shift next year when every other release will look like the new MHW or DA in terms of image quality on base consoles

RT looks horrendous even at ultra. Way too much noise. The reflections are all grainy. Ray reconstruction could work wonders here.

The characters are ugly but that hair is damn impressive. Game runs well and environments look decent, it's hard to hate other than the trans bullshit and some of the dialogue.

Some developers still care. Even non-major ones.
Atomic Heart, for example, was 4k/60 on PS5 and Series X and had an incredibly clean and sharp appearance.
They didn't push hard on features that would force them to drop resolutions, so the game still has a beautifully detailed look to it (although I didn't care for the game itself).

It's fucking RT. RT being pushed as the marquee graphical feature for 9th gen consoles is what you should all be pissed at.

To not get completely dogshit performance they have to crank down res because the AMD GPUs in these platforms suck ass at RT performance. FSR also has soft as hell image quality compared to DLSS2+. Just give me something that looks clean and crisp, I really don't give a shit if it's SSR instead of rEaLiStIc LiGhT bOuNcInG

9th gen should've focused on resolution & frame-rate. Give me ALL the pixels you can possibly push at 60 fps. Performance modes should target 90+ fps, not 60.

RT is off most of the time on PS5.

Drops to 500p in performance mode on PS5?

??? jesus fucking christ. Im glad they focused all their efforts on PC while they forgot the console version exists...

think most people should be prepared for most games that are no longer cross-gen in performance mode on console to have this image quality especially with the FSR 2.

In an ideal world other studios would do like Insomniac or Guerrilla and develop their own uspcale technique but we know almost all of them will choose the easy way out and simply use the FSR 2 and the performance mode will therefore necessarily have atrocious image quality on console.

I'm curious to see Dragon Age's performance mode running on Pro because in terms of IQ, there could be a nice difference.

I guess devs don't give a fuck anymore, games are regressing to PS3 level resolutions since cross gen was dropped. PS5 Pro will save people from looking at this crap but still over 90% of console players will have to enjoy it.

"4k machine" - fuck me - false advertisement, they should put on the box - "looks the best on 1080p screen".

Yeah I think PSSR will be huge given how many games lately look bad in performance mode in base PS5.

Still think it's lame to be $700 without the disc drive or vertical stand, but I'm still upgrading to have less blurriness in performance modes.

We've been needing some great PC ports for quote a while now and out of all the games to achieve it, it's this one? Really? Couldn't have had Dead Space on PC be this incredible?

Yeah, apparently both Indiana Jones and Stalker 2, for example, will run at 60fps on Series X, and I'm sure the same will be the case for PS5 also, per both rumors winding up true.

The 9th gen consoles just aren't good at RT, barring the PS5 Pro, and concessions usually have to made to even get the technique working well on them. We've all known this for a while now, and with cross gen season finally over for the most part, big games like this will continue to push these 4.5 year old consoles for all that they're worth. Now, did I ever expect to see 500p on a $500 system? No lol.

Lmfao. Please tell me this isn't another Cyberpunk on console. 😂😂😂

The RTX 4060 and the RX 6700 and an exact match for the PS5 GPU in raster, at PS5 settings in all the games DF tested (there's a bunch of videos on their channel on this), but RT in the 4060 just shits all over the PS5 GPU (2060 Super equivalent in RT if my memory serves me right the PS5 GPU was). The icing on the cake is DLSS, just incredible to see tech like this freeing up resources to be available for other heavy tasks.

I meant that they waited 10 days before putting up their analysis of Hogwarts Legacy despite it being the biggest title of 2023. With this game, it's up before release.

One is PC only, probably the only code they have

The other covers tests across all current gen consoles + PC.

There's a difference.

Awful performance and resolution on console is completely killing my interest in buying games day 1.
If at least the games looked mindblowing but they don't, and I don't want to buy a $1000 Ps5 pro to brute force decent IQ at 60fps on games which don't even look that good to begin with.

If devs can't make games that look and run well on current hardware I'll just wait to buy them for $20 at some point in the future when the hardware that can run them is affordable.

While possibly true, it's fascinating that only the PS is compared to PC.
Because no one plays on Xbox and it'd just be redundant when they look 99% the same.

The console analysis will be up soon and they'll compare SX, SS, and PS5.

So Transfortnite runs amazing on Alex's 4090 PC... colour me fucking purple, who would've thought a game that looks as shit as Dragon Age runs brilliantly...

I'm only here to watch that hair tech, since I saw it in the trailers I've been impressed with it, fucking hell, I hope it becomes the norm in AAA games.
Shame the game itself is not my style.
If this doesn't flop and Bioware doesn't get shutdown, I hope ME4 has tech like this but without the cartoonish artstyle.

Watched this on a 65" TV and the quality mode is outstanding. Very subtle differences with the high end version except for some reflections and the upscaled that is limited to FSR2. The base PS5 is still a good machine even compared with a 500€ GPU like the 4060.

Yeah the characters are garbage mostly. Some of the environments however look really nice, if a little generic.
Yeah, this game has good environments, good performance, mid combat , and terrible character designs.

And of course we have even worse writing, characterization and storytelling.
