Concord's issue wasn't "diversity," that's stupid. Concord was just the definition of a bland, designed-by-comitted game with no identity and nothing unique to offer. It was mid, content thin, and didn't serve any market that wasn't being better served elsewhere.

Plenty of people play Overwatch which is 10 times as "woke" but a lot less mid and pointless.

Likewise Baldur's Gate 3 is just as woke as Veilguard, but it happens to be a much better game. I think people are just rejecting mediocrity.

And Veilguard, from what I’ve seen, still would be pretty mid without the DEI crap. I’m not blaming the entire failure on DEI but I still think that was a huge part of it.

I think the bolded is true. I think you have it correct here. The game overall got a 82% on Metacritic for the PS5 version (77 reviews). But interesting enough.....it got a 76% on Metacritic for the PC version (40 reviews). I'm of the belief the game is closer to a 76%, than the 82%. So, yeah some scores were inflated by the mainstream media for "certain" reasons that we can clearly see.



Publishers were passing money out as if interest rates were 0%......hold on they were LOL! 2017-2020 was a crazy time for some games to get made. And I do honestly believe Covid hurt alot of game production. Remember the whole "work from home" push? I do! And saw many devs say that working from home would be the new normal for devs. Well guess what........THAT IDEA HAS FLOPPED!! Hard! Most are going back into the office like they should be.



IGN inflated score. And most on GAF didn't love the game. I'd be surprised if most on GAF that played the game would give it an 8/10 or higher.

Everything about Concord was unappealing. Like almost scientifically zero. That's why it's such a historic bomb. It just had nothing for any audience, even the most "woke" audiences rejected it because it just didn't have anything worth playing.

I think it's time to look into Youtube ratings as a predictor for poor sales. 4 year old trailers for Suicide squad had pretty good ratings (same with Avowed for example), but from a cursory look, it seems like past 1-2 years made viewers more suspicious. Just a shame the videos are posted by several accounts like Xbox/IGN/Playstation etc.
Also the more we poke at it, the more publishers will start botting likes to shape public opinion and Ubisoft is already looking suspect.

I can think about TLOU2, however, it did come out in 2020, way before all this DEI and ESG talk, and way ahead of the curve, and even still its incredibly well written, Ellie is probably on the top tier of female characters. People raged by Abby just because of her physic also doesnt fit the agenda, and again, she was quite well written as well. Most of the rage was because Joel got killed at the start of the game, and not because of forced ideology.

I cant think of a single game that forced these ideologies and made it.

The amount of engagement around this game means it's going to live or die based on its quality. If the game comes out and it's amazing it's gonna do really well. If it's a 7/10 it's gonna have a lot more trouble. But given the pedigree it's not hard to imagine it being the former.

Veilguard got very little engagement before launch. It really had an uphill fight to meet expectations even if it was a 9/10 but it seems like it was closer to a 7/10.

Idk, I'm huge fan of Sony's studios and own everything they put out since PS3, and I'm considering carefully if I buy the next ghost, wolverine or intergalactic. My reason being that Sony already showed their hand with games like spider 2 and horizon, to me it is clear that they have an agenda now and I, for one, don't support it. Yep. Same here. After hearing how Spider-Man 2 had been wokeified I didn't buy it day one. I finally got it when I found a $9 key for the Japanese PSN store. I've platinumed Horizon 1 (incl expansion) and 2, but I've yet to play the Horizon: Forbidden West 2 DLC because Aloy has now become a lesbian (because of course she is).

I hate it when woke/DEI/LGBTQ+ content is shoved in where it wasn't before. This trend has only grown stronger and my aversion to it is also only getting stronger. I'm absolutely fine with it when its organic. In fact, two of my favorite authors are Sarah Waters and Emma Donoghue who write historical fiction about the lesbian experience in the past. I've seen numerous movies with lesbian characters: But I'm a Cheerleader, Fucking Amal (personal favorite, seen it many times, The Handmaiden, Blue Is the Warmest Color (masterclass in acting), Carol, Bound, Heavenly Creatures, Kissing Jessica Stein, Aimee and Jaguar, Desert Hearts, My Summer of Love, Imagine Me and You, Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister, etc etc. Yesterday I watched a great modern noir, Love Lies Bleeding, with two lesbian protagonists. But Guerilla Games managed to annoy me so much with this suddenly lesbian Aloy that I'm in no mood to play the expansion.

Why is that? Because woke content is never organic, it's never integral to the story, the characters and the previous lore, it's always there because the devs want to give themselves a pat on the sholder for adding this content, it's either virtue signalling or a fuck you to their traditional audience (hey gamers, you're all bigots and to show you guys how much we hate you, we're going to double down on the woke stuff in this games series you've loved for years/decades! Why? Because fuck you!)

The effects of the "wokenisation" of games/media is now starting to get impossible to deny. The defence force for the woke shit not being a factor in disastrous sales has always been "then why TLoU2/Spider-Man 2/*insert woke sequel of a blockbuster here* has been a success?".

The answer to this question was obviously to lot of people years ago yet, and was that people didn't knew these games would have been so woke, since them was sequels of super well received and super successful games that come out before the woke wave.

Even like that, the disappointment of the fanbase has been loud and now than the pattern of wokenisation in a game is obviously to anyone that is honest with itself, the effects starting to be devastating. That's why even games that seems impossible to fail (Intergalactic) have to worry, because people are making clear that they are full with this shit, and not just on Neogaf. I hope you are right, but we must not get complacent, any wins and they will latch on for maximum effect to steer companies in the direction they want. We are still at a disadvantage as they have the media in lockstep still. Only the bad sales and opinions they can't silence (yet) on youtube and elsewhere that gets to them, but even then they ignore it.

Of course not. "Diversity" is too broad a concept to be inherently bland-making, and a lack of diversity doesn't introduce any spice or intrigue. You're shoehorning this to fit a narrative but the game was just bland on its own.

Obviously if it had *interesting* characters with personality and appeal that would be much better, but I don't think issue was ethnic or gender based.
