Dragon Age Veilguard, Non Binary character

It’s not going to make you gay or whatever weird fear people maybe having just because one character is not straight.

Acting like the world and realms of the games we play are only filled with straight people is weird. You really need to seek therapy and talk to a psychiatrist if you get this mad over something so minor. I’m being serious, get a grip.

Did ya’ll have a fucking crisis when Harry Potter came out. “We want to own the libs and support the game, but there is a trans character in the game that has the audacity to help the player, what do I do? “

You buy the game and enjoy it. That’s what you do. If you’re letting ONE character ruin a whole game for you, then you have big problems.
We did ignore it for years. Even embraced it... but then people started losing their jobs and got thrown in jail for not going along with pronouns. We got threatened with laws to take our kids away.

So now we do not go along or embrace it .. sorry 🤷‍♂️

I'm wondering if a certain dude (who's no longer a dude) likes the game. Seems like if anyone outspoken, in this space, could be justifiably critical of the pandering this game does, it would be that guy.

Just wanting to know, do you have a source for someone being thrown in jail for not going along with pronouns? That seems ridiculous?

Quick google will show it happened more than once and laws have been passed to do so in multiple countries.

Unbelievable.

This is the kind of bullshit people have to deal with over lifestyle choices.

The term "non-binary" in a fantasy world seems out of place, IIRC they already had a qunari word for trans people in Inquisition, why use Twitter lingo instead...?

I bring you the good stuff. I recorded all sequences from the Qunari non-binary companion, Taash. Spoilers are a given (unless you don't care about her story).

The dialogue in this game is insultingly bad. This is some of the worst dialogue I've ever seen/heard in a AAA game.

Nothing makes me feel more immersed in a magical medieval world of dragons like the word 'crappy'.

It just never seems to end. It's as if you're constantly going to be reminded of this gender bureaucracy nonsense throughout this entire game.

Clearly weren't qualified for the assignment. I wonder why they were given the job.

It’s actually way worse than I thought it would be.

“I’m glad the lords have Taash’s back.”

“Oh Tassh isn’t the first non-binary member of the lords.”

Like what the actual fuck with this being a focal point? It’s so juvenile.

This game is so far removed from the original offering it can hardly be considered part of the same franchise.

Ultimately, there is no real desire of behalf of the typical fantasy demographic to insert gender theory in this game. One could easily argue its inclusion turns away many more customers than it attracts.

It’s funny. Optionality could literally solve this problem for everyone. Simply add a toggle to enable | disable such divisive content… aka Saudi Mode. I wouldn’t care if the developer made simultaneously the most woke and least woke game imaginable if there was a toggle for it…

It’s ultimately the best compromise but sadly no one has yet had the courage to attempt it.
Social conditioning is not exactly a voluntary act...

As our body of knowledge about human biology and psychology grew, we realized that it's more accurate to separate those two in order to be more precise in our language. This is what happens when new information is gathered. The scientists researching these topics evolved the vocabulary because it was needed, not because it was trendy.
No, sexologists are trying to encapsulate an IDEA of behavior and cloak it in some sort of legitimacy by co-opting the term "gender". That approach seems to have worked a little better than just using "masculine" and "feminine" or inventing a new term. There are only TWO sexes. There are only TWO genders. The biology underpinning both is immutable. There is no science, certainly no "hard" science about this topic, just folks opining to a round of golf claps as they do performative speeches. And you can see this in game, with the tedious dialogue trees around this topic that would be getting universally DESTROYED if it were about any other issue. Just imagine if this Taash character came from a culture that dedicated themselves to the spear. It was their technique for hunting, for combat, their entire culture was built around use of the spear and they even had a deity for it. Then this Taash character just really loved the bow but went on and on about and wanted constant validation for their choice of wanting to use the bow instead of the spear and even insisted everyone address them as "Archer" instead of "spearman". Seems like bad writing, doesn't it? You COULD make an interesting character that didn't conform to their cultures expectations (see how I properly used a plural pronoun with a singular noun?) and how that caused issues, hell the "Ugly Duckling" fable is LITERALLY that, but bad writing ruins it and should be called out as such.

That's all the writing in this game from what I've seen. Rook acts like a preschool teacher, and the other characters are toddlers who need to be taught how to behave.

The non-binary subject itself is just not very engaging for a large portion of the audience, and the execution has less subtlety and wit than a Captain Planet episode made for little kids. It's just not good.

My friends, there is no reason to be upset. It is my choice to buy the game or not and I will not buy it. My reasons are my own. Do not be angry at me for refusing to fund my favorite hobby's downfall.

The game looks terrible compared to origins, it has a bad art style and the dialog/writing is nothing special. It got an 84 with all the press behind it, so the writing ain't that great. It just isn't worth putting up with the obvious woke. If it had a better meta, okay, but not, not like this. I won't sellout my hobby for a game this shitty when I have far better games to play. This doesn't even look like Dragon Age.

I will not interfere in your purchase of the product, but don't guilt trip me for my non-purchase.

She was arrested for trolling and persistent harassment. The mis-gendering was just part of it, but not the charges.

The laws I looked up from the quick 2 minute google search only reference harassment of mis gendering. If I misgender someone in a conversation, thats fine, but if I am harassing them over it, thats where the laws come in. Ths would be the same for any form of harassment.

But those "professional" shills said it was "well written."

jack off please GIF
Indeed. The game publishers are their pimps at this point. Hopefully they are doing irreparable damage to their credibility over time like the mainstream media in USA, UK, Europe, Australia etc. Hopefully more and more people realise.

I already only take into account the audience score on rotten tomatoes and have to weigh up regular players reviews for games on metacritic against the critics score. Can't trust the majority of the big game review sites any more it seems they are ideologically captured. Plus would stop getting review codes if they are overall negative and that could break their entire business.

Holy shit!

This is the worst dialog I have ever heard in any form of media.

What kind of stupid lesson is it trying to brainwash kids with, that apologies are no longer good enough?

0% chance I'm going to be fed this garbage written by delusional morons half my age. It's insulting to their (ESRB rated) 17+ audience.

This needs the Concord treatment.

I mean look who and what the director/writer is

The game is full blown Alphabet People bullshit propaganda disguised as a fantasy game with dragons full stop

Simps for Amouranth
To make sure no straight male finds them attractive ofc, gotta avoid that infamous male gaze xD
for a game that's all about fweelings and relationships, its cringe as fuck considering they all look like Pixar characters.. how can you possibly take this shit seriously with that writing let alone the graphics

Dialogue aside, why do all the characters look so fucking ugly? EVERYONE in DA:V just looks hideous. Genuinely has one of the worst artistic directions and character designs I've seen in a game.
I actually like how the female Asian elf looks (forgot her name). I thought she'd be the most annoying character too but doesn't seem like it.
The Qunari look absolutely awful. The Qunari's design fits right in with how bad the dialogue is.
