Sure, and at an individual level, its usually pretty easy to accomodate folks that feel this way. BUUUUUT that doesn't mean we should be rewriting our language and instituting laws over it, nor getting lectures about it in our video games (or at least we shouldn't be called bigots if we don't like it).
Language is rewritten constantly over far less. That's a losing battle.
I think tone matters in how people talk about it and a hectoring tone probably doesn't convince anyone, so I will agree with that.
"I'm non-binary. Which swim team should I be on and which locker room can I change in? Which bathroom should I use? What roommate can I have and if they are uncomfortable with my external genitalia are they a horrible bigot?
These have all always been a choice, man. I mentioned above I used to work in an office with a butch lesbian who was more comfortable using the men's room and no one ever thought to complain. There were never been laws governing bathroom use, women use men's rooms all the time for reasons as simple as the line being too long.
Which gender can I punch in the head for sport?"
That's not how it works. Non-binary people can't choose what gender to represent in sport based on identity alone. That's just not a thing.
When trans people (again not the same thing as NB) have been allowed to compete, it's because they have medically transitioned and tested with hormone levels consistent with the gender they're competing with. I recognize that's still controversial for some perfectly legitimate reasons, and that birth sex can, in some cases, lead to disparities beyond hormone level, but it's a different conversation than NB, and also doesn't at all work how you seem to think.
