Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past |OT| Roman numerals are hard

Sometimes they do. In this case, they've decided that the hero's official English name is Auster. In Japanese, even the original version, they used Arusu as the name.

Normally just a hero you name but this one has been localised as Auster. (Though there's no clue to that when naming him ingame)
I see. In the european version there's no mention of Auster both ingame and in the digital manual. He's just called "hero". man, I hate having to name characters.
Also, in my version the menus are still black and not blue.

The menus are black. If you're going by the photo a page back or so, that's just an issue with the photo.

They use Auster on the European websites for the game, which is where I picked it up from and what I went with for naming.

Someone has the game early, and is comparing it to their Japanese version. Shops have been completely changed, and for the worse.

Left is localized, right is original JP release.

That's a real shame they removed item images from shops. Do they appear anywhere else or are they completely removed altogether?

Well now I have to work from home the next two days while I tend to my sick son. Having this game in my hands would certainly help! Still no shipping info from Amazon :(

So I have remained relatively in the dark on this game when it comes to spoilers. I was wondering about one feature though, and it's not a make or break deal if it is or isn't in the game, but I'd like it.

Is the
alchemy pot
a feature in this game?

No, the first game to have that was 8.

I know that but I wasn't sure if a full remake of the game would add something like that in. It's definitely not a deal breaker because I can take it or leave it.

From what I heard and it could be wrong is Square did all the work and Nintendo footed half the bill?
I believe Nintendo also QAed the game and are handling he marketing. I may be wrong though.

As I mentioned a few posts up, they're still there in the regular inventory screen.

Ah thanks. One more question as it got unanswered earlier in the thread, does the game handle party member switching once you get your 5th party member the same way as in the original? (trek back to the first town, enter a house, talk to the person, etc)?

One of the things that bothered me in the PS1 release was having to pick which party member's adventure unceremoniously ends.

From what I can see is that Nintendo is publishing this game in Europe and thus I would assume they paid for localisation. Normally, if they do not pay costs for localisation, they are just distributing these games (Monster Hunter, Ghost Trick, Zack & Wiki, and many more). The translation work was probably contracted to Square Enix or outsourced to independent translators. As far as I remember, NoE shut down their internal translation division and is relying on outsourcing now.

Anyway, Nintendo is publishing the game in North America and Europe, not Square Enix. Also directly stated on the back of the game box.

Not bad, that's still a good size, thank you!

It's probably gonna vary a lot depending on how you play. For example most DQ V playthroughs last about 30 hours, but I took my time gambling at the casino and roaming about the overworld and I faced the last boss around 52 hours on my first time. It's likely that it will get me over 100 hours to get to the last boss of this game. If we throw full completion in, I don't even wanna know lol

The 3D settings are misplaced, right? If you choose hard 3D, the effect is less impressive than if you choose light 3D.

I’ve always been much slower than most in getting through games. So any ‘estimated’ time-frame you can always add maybe 50% or double.

I’ll be playing DQ VII for a LONG time.

Is there any link to the midi version of the soundtrack? I've been listening to those midi soundtracks from the mobile games and they're actually pretty phenomenal, so I'm curious how this sounds compared to the orchestrated version.

Always a pleasant surprise to see Irish Gaelic pop up in a game.

UPS delivered my copy today. VII's my favorite in the series from what I've played so I'm really excited to get more into it! Kind of odd adjusting to some of the changes. Super pedantic thing, but I don't like how they restructured the main character's home village. I thought the original design was just fine and I liked the cave over to the left - sort of thing that makes you wonder how it plays in later on.

The fact that they took out item pictures is a bit disappointing, though. They still seem to have a lot of empty space there as well. Any word on other changes like this (aside from the music)?

I meant for the remake. They've remade the midi version of the soundtrack, right? Similar to how they did so for the mobile remakes? Unless I'm mistaken...

Also Woodus, man, that takes me back...

That music is what's used in the NA/EU version of DQ7 3DS. It's the same stuff they used in the mobile version of the remake in Japan.
If you're thinking it's the same as the PSX stuff, it's not.

Oh, I listened to a few of the single files from 2010 that sounded almost exactly like the original PS1 version, and I guess the date fooled me. Thanks!

1. *tears* It's finally here!

2. Shocked that Amazon.ca would just sell out. I have my coming tonight or tomorrow, when I click the link it only shows selling by partners. Weird...

Anyone in NYC know if any of the usual spots have this today?

I went yesterday and couldn't believe it wasn't in yet. SMT was there :-(

Unfortunately 'Over The Horizon' sounds drastically inferior to the orchestral version, but I sort of expected it. It's still good though. The MIDI is a big improvement over the PS1 version.

My copy arrived a day early, and I'm enjoying this very much so far! However can't decide whether to play 3D on or off, kinda liking the added AA a bit more but I just keep switching in on and off :D

It takes some time to get to the first battle. I guess a lot of people aren't going to like that, but I really enjoy well made slow opening in games so that's great for me. I just hope there aren't many of those useless braindead puzzle.

Great job, Best Buy. I haven't tried their release day shipping before, but that is very not on release day. :|

I seethe with jealousy for those that have their copies.

Hey Aeana. I remember you mentioning in another thread that the level limit for advancing job classes has been reduced in this version. Do you know if it is some constant number across the areas, or if it mentioned online somewhere? Sorta curious. I remember in the original PS1 version the Dharma Temple overworld had a level 21 limit and the Dharma Temple Dungeon had a level 27 limit on advancing jobs.

What do they want? The beginning has already been shortened a lot from the original version.

I was fine with the PS1 longer opening, it did a good job in building up the story.
