Dragon Quest XI:Echoes of an Elusive Age |OT| This One Goes To XI

what are you even talking about, dragon quest 8 never had dlc. Unless the 3ds ver had dlc
Yeah it was on the 3ds, once you're in the game theres a dlc section in the main menu, updates every day with an item then another special item every week.

Any PC players getting a D3D crash error? It's happened to me twice.

Happened to me last night during a long dungeoun stretch with no save points.

I cleared the freaking area, finally turned the boss orange, and the game crashes. Over an hour of play lost.

I was so fucking pissed.

Started playing yesterday (on PC) and I am absolutely loving it. I'm a huge DQ fan anyway, but the game is just great. Really hoping it does well here in the West.

Ya theres the mini medals, and the casino. So far theres no guides out for making items, and gamefaqs doesn't even have anything.

I don't believe you can actually "make" anything. Everything craftable in game comes from a recipe that you need to discover.

ya theres a guy who trades items for mini medals. There needs to be a guide for crafting items.

I really don't know if i should stick with knives for Erik or if i should go for boomerangs. I loved boomerangs in DQVIII. Made regular battles very short! :D

It's a pretty simple process, here's what I've learned from my own testing. The hotter the forge, the higher the range of damage you can do with a strike. When the temperature changes color, then the range values of your strike have reduced. This doesn't mean you always do less with subsequent hits, as there's overlap between the ranges for sure and it ends up relying pretty heavily on RNG.

Each bar of an item represents some amount of "health" with the green zone being a desired range of damage to do to that section, and perfection being a really tiny range within the green zone (on some things, perfection will be an exact number, and others it might be 2 or 3 numbers). There's some some algorithim that basically looks at "how far from perfection" you are in totality, meaning for all parts added together, and then assigns 0, +1, +2 and +3 outcomes to your result. I'm early on in the game, but I've found to get perfection on an object with 4 parts, I basically need 1 or 2 parts to be perfect (yellow) and then the other 2 or 3 parts to be very close. If you get all 4 parts close, or 1 perfect, 2 pretty close and 1 just close, maybe you'll get a +2, and if you just get 3 out of the 4 parts green (but the 4th part can't be egregiously off) then you'll get a +1. There's really a lot of RNG involved, as sometimes my first hit does 20 and sometimes it does 14. I just wouldn't sweat it too much, you'll always get the item if crafting from scratch, and perfectionist pearls make it pretty straight forward to get a +3 if you really want it.

With perfectionist pearls, the 0, +1, +2, +3 results are additive. So if you craft an item and get +1, then you rework it with pearls and that time you do well enough to have gotten a +2, it'll give you a +3 perfect item. Like I said, I'm still early on (Just left Hotto for the first time), and some of the items seem legitimately hard to get +3s on even 10% of the time, so save the pearls for when you find something that has a really good +3 boost. Several accessories are well worth considering, as well as the vest for success and what not.

Boomerangs are great for random mob packs, but the damage potential on daggers make it way better for bosses for sure.

I'm personally gonna stick with Knives with Erik because later upgrade he wield two knives and and like abilities that able put enemies on sleep or poison them.

Also.....
anybody use Pep attack called Wild Side? Both Serena and MC use their magic to make Erik go insane...thats kind of harsh.

I meant they need to have a list of every item you can make at the forge. And what items you need to make them.

You can dual wield claws and daggers once you get the skill to unlock it.

Just began playing this and dear God it's such a feelgood experience. Anyone else feel like Dragon Quest is the single most Nintendo franchise that just so happens to not be a Nintendo franchise? I get this feeling every time I start a new one.

Yeah, actually agree. The entire structure of the game is vey Nintendo like. At times it's very gamy but at same time very immersive.....I hope that make sense.

when dragon quest 1 was being made, they already had it planed out to be a console rpg, and to have it be simple so people would understand it. The rpgs before it were pretty complex for the time, aka ultima and wizardry. Im pretty sure ultima is the 1st real video game rpg, and wizardry came 2nd.

Absolutely, it's a damn near perfect mix of accessibility with depth. It truly is a simple formula done right.

Just picked up my edition. I have to say, the art for the steel case is bringing back some of my favorite childhood videogame memories of Dragon Warrior 4. Don't know if it was intentional or not, but it's goddamn awesome.

How do I use the fun sized forge? I'm by the campfire and trying to select it from my items. Do I have to sit down by the fire or something along those lines?

It's the weekend and I just bought my copy. Been waiting since 2006 for the next console Dragon Quest game. Jesus I was...18 years old at the time. Now I'm 30. Wow time flies.

Choose rest in the campfire and then use the menu or go by foot if you want to go to the merchant first.

Just picked this up today and the game is beautiful. I love those old school Dragon Warrior sound effects they trickle into the game.

I've been working crazy hours this week and haven't had nearly as much time to devote to this game as I'd like. I'm 5 hours in and I'm absolutely in love with this game, I've yet to find anything about it I don't immensely enjoy.

I'd go so far as to say it's an "instant classic".

It's really relaxing to play, haha. I've got 11 hours on my file and I'm right outside the 3rd city for the first time. I just don't feel rushed to do anything. Even though it's clearly not an open world kind of game, it still feels fun to just go explore and look around.

Alright gang I'm liking it but I have a few minor nitpicks.

1) I think characters target enemies closest to them when you are attacking. This is super annoying because I'll have my main hero attack slime A as default then Erik attack slime B as default. Why this was done I have no idea but I don't think it serves any practical purpose. I don't think positioning of characters make a difference when being attacked/attacking so why was this done? I accidentally attack wrong enemies because of this. Which leads me to my next point

2) How come the default tactic isn't follow orders? Listen I'm an old dumb guy so I didn't realize you had to manually switch the AI to follow orders, I just figured the game was following that new RPG trend where you barely have control over your team. AI is dumb, why would I want it enabled? The game is still heavily reliant on turn based, why make the default ignore this aspect?

3) I'll be in the minority but I could really do without the cutscenes/voice acting. I don't mind them, but there's been a bit too much 4 hours in that makes me think it will be the norm for the rest of the game. I always loved DQ because the localization dialogue wrote NPCs with accents so you sort of imagine how they talk in your head. Now we've got small cutscenes that don't fulfil much of a purpose other than just padding things out. I respect a series trying new things and attempting to modernize itself but I'm not really digging it with DQ.

Anyway ignoring my whining, I'm really enjoying the game, it's just a few nagging issues that are bringing out the cynic in me.

Yeah I LOVE the way exploring done this game. I prefer this type over how 90% open world done these days.

I mean you can just change attacking in tactics whenever you want. There is no voice acting like the Japanese version, they just added English voices, so it could be worse, there could be no voice acting at all.

I know i'm in the minority but i absolutely love Veronika so far. I think she's one of the most adorable, funniest and cutest characters in video game history.

All i do is play the damn casino in this game.
Worst DQ EVER xD

Can't stop
Need help GAH

14hrs in, really like it. Difficulty seems to ramp up fast though. Makes me smile thinking that I have at least 65hrs of this game left to experience.

I too am still early in the game, at 8 hrs. But its been amazing so far. Its great to be spoilt for choice with so many rpgs this gen, and games in particular. I also really enjoy the story but I've always liked them in the past. Man I hope DQ gets a solid footing here in the west.

From what I've seen, yeah the game is the same aside from VAing. I don't have the EN version just yet but I will experience it down the line.

Veronika is sassy as fuck and it makes her funny as a result.

from what I've seen theres not much difference besides having no voice acting in the Japanese version

The dash button and photo mode are also new additions aren't they?

I hope so too but SE did no marketing for this game. I just hope like NieR Automata, word of mouth help DQXI sell well here.

SqurEnix knows that Final fantasy sells really well in the west, and dragon quest hasn't been making as much. Though its pretty much the opposite in Japan. There was some ads for dragon quest 11 online, but I don't think they are expecting the sells to be as high as final fantasy. For me though final fantasy has been going down hill since 9. While dragon quest games keep getting better.

I totally agree. And maybe that is because with DQ they are not trying to cater to the Western market as hard as they try with FF (especially with XV)

And thats my entire issue with this whole FF7 Remake. FF7 is most well known turn base RPG is now turn in to an ARPG and I'm 90% sure this because to appeal to wester audience.

I'm afraid they are also trying to Westernize the art style. We've already heard that they are changing the look of some characters from their previous look we've seen in the trailers. It wouldn't surprise me if they are aiming to make them look as Western and as photorealistic as the characters in Kingsglaive which is something that will completely put me off.

Oh god, no!! There were something really off about those character models in Kingsglaive.
