If square was smart they would go back and see what made FF7 and FF6 the most praised Rpgs out of their series, and stop trying to westernise it

So you guys really liking the game so far? DQ8 is my favorite jrpg of all time so I've really been wanting to get XI.

The only thing is I still have Tales of Zesitiria and Berseria on my backlog and really wanted to finish them before getting into DQ XI.

This game just keeps on giving. I love exploring everywhere and I’m really taking my time with it.

I also really appreciate how the story isn’t some convoluted fairy tale that feels difficult to follow. It’s emotionally touching in places...tugging at the old heart strings lol.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

I realized earlier when my son said "I've never played a Dragon Quest game, but this one looks fun. Where should I start in the series?" and the best answer I had was "this one". My go-to recommendation used to be VIII.

Also, it made me feel like a bad parent when I realized my son went his whole life so far without playing a Dragon Quest game.

Im guessing the only way to get plat in dragon quest 11 is beat the game with every difficulty setting on.
Are there trophies for the Draconian quest options? I didn't think there were. I looked up a guide and saw there were no missable trophies so I'm just playing without worrying about following a guide.

You can't use Media Player with this game

Got to the town where everyone talks in Haikus and laughed when I realized what was going on. Then I was impressed how far they were able to run with it. The writing/localization with these games is always top notch.

Heh I thought that was funny too. And yes the localization team did an incredible job in this game. But then again all the DQ games I've played so far had great localizations so I wasn't t surprised with the very high quality.

I found the Casino and the place to give those gold coins that I have collected. Like everyone said, exploring in this game feels fantastic even tho the game is linear. Soooooo glad they didn't go with open world like FFXV, now that game's exploring was absolute chore.

Who done the localization for DQXI? I don't think it was 8-4.

I'm about 9 hours in, and I have to say, this game is currently in the lead for my game of the year (previously, it was Octopath, so yes, I'm a huge fan of turn based combat). I'm so happy this has come out.

IMO Tales is straight up boo boo, though i understand berseria has quite the following. unless you have the appetite for so many jrpgs i'd just go straight to DQXI, the real deal

this game showed how shit xenoblade 2 on the switch actually is and how lost the devs truly are with most jrpg's

I mean the dragon quest series has been around pretty long, even longer then final fantasy. Enix knows to make rpgs. The switch ver of dragon quest 11 maybe won't come out for a while, cause they have to downgrade everything.

I'm not going to call Xenoblade Chronicles 2 shit (as I still liked it), but many times while I have been playing I've thought to myself how much better DQ XI is than Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

I personally loved XC2 and really excited to get the story DLC. But DQXI is much more polished game.

I love it. This is my first Dragon Quest game and I've played 10 hours this weekend alone.

I set the Weak Enemies Stop Giving XP and Tougher Enemies modifiers on too.

Despite working almost non-stop since Tuesday (why I why couldn't we have got this before Labor Day, when I had a 4 day weekend) I've still managed to put in 13 hours. I made it to the part where I just unlocked the ship, which is usually my favorite part in DQ games since that's where they typically go from linear to open-world and have a few branching paths - hopefully this game is no exception.

Absolutely loving the game. After doing the part with Sylvando, I have to wonder what the hell IGN and that other site were thinking calling this game a "Male Power Fantasy". Sheesh.

You're a lot faster than me! I'm a little bit past where you get the ship, went to a village that was not intended to be next, has the casino. Did the quests there, spent maybe 2 hours in the casino, but I'm at 24 hours played! You can get a ridiculously strong 2h sword there if that's the route you've gone with MC, too.

I'm just about to finish Octopath but I'm leery of jumping right into another large JRPG. Impressions from GAFfers seems to be very positive. If Dragon Quest 5 and 7 are my two favorites in the series, is this going to be up my alley?

This game came out of nowhere for me and blew me away. I've always been a huge FF fan, never really played a DQ since the NES days. This is exactly the evolution that I wanted from FF games, but never got.

-Classic turn-based combat
-Great mini-stories and overall story
-Fun, animated characters
-Minigames
-Not overly concerned with realism or seriousness
-Fantasy based

What the hell have I been missing out on?

I just got to
Snifleheim, got 5/6 orbs and it's been a wild ride. The mermaid sub-quest was heartbreaking but well done. Can't wait to see what happens next. I have suspicions about the queen actually being the baddie of this sub-story, but we'll see.

Anyways, I'm completely absorbed by this game at the moment, can't wait to keep playing.

If I liked this game, which other DQ's are worth going back for?

Almost all mainline DQ games are pretty damn good, so you can't go wrong with either of them but DQVIII is much closer style to DQXI.

It depends on what you liked about them. Most people aren't super-fans of 7 so that's an interesting pick. If someone put a gun to my head, I would say that the characters in this one aren't as good as they were in Dragon Quest 5, and the story isn't nearly as tedious in this one as it was in 7.

So if you liked 7 because it was tedious and you like 5 for the characters alone, you might be disappointed in this - but the game is very much made in the spirit of the rest of the series, so you should be fine.

I like 7 because of the scope. Now that I've already beaten it twice (once on PS1, another time on DS) it has become a new favorite. DQ5 sort of straddles the late NES era / early SNES era and that's something I enjoy about it.

I'll probably look up a few reviews and then pull the trigger on it soon. Seems like a good JRPG.

I wish the map would show where the quest is to finish it. I have one now to find some pepper with no clue where it is. Obviously I need the boat, and its on one of these two islands. Can't find it. Found some locked doors I can't seem to open. Noticing those are all over the game world.

I would say for the most part the quest givers do a good job telling where you need to go for the quest. As much as I love Octopath, that game is much worst in that front. they very vague about what they even want from you.

The quest giver tells you it's close to Gondolia. There's really only one island to check, and if you checked it and didn't find them then I don't think you were very thorough... they were pretty easy to find. I can PM you the answer if you want.

I figured it out. The quest guide I was looking out was confusing me. Now I'm stuck on the
Tentacluar
boss. I guess this is when the game starts to ramp up the difficulty.

Totally. I’ve done little else but veg out all day playing it and I’m pretty certain this is the best JRPG I’ve ever played.

Just when you think the game couldn’t suck you in any more, it suddenly opens up into something far greater than you previously envisaged. The game is a behemoth. The visuals get better the more the game progresses too...some of the cutscenes (still using the in-game engine) are just amazing.

I wish I could create artwork and animation like that.

Falling into this game is pure joy. Playing a JRPG on a PC with no issues and DQ none the less is epic for me. I find myself playing in spurts of an hour to a sit down and not budge for 4 hours at a time. I have not played an RPG like that in forever. Absolutely great game and I appreciate it coming out day one for PC.

puff puff is a joke in this game, cause none of the females give you a real puff puff. I don't want to spoil it cause it will ruin the joke
The girls in green actually give you puff puff. The screen goes black.

Also why can't I use custom music? The OST is no bueno.

A lot of that also had to do with JRPGs being at their height, so unless they have a time machine you are asking them to re-create something they very much can't. With the current FF games, they are pretty Japanese lol So I don't know about "westernise"

Not the first time they had a futuristic FF
Open world FF etc

I really hope this is a breakaway success so SE greenlights a new AAA classic JRPG.

They already do a few AAA classic concepts, World Of Final Fantasy being one of them, so I think this game doing well will have them continue putting out games like World Of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Octopath etc (and their AA stuff like Lost Sphere and I Am Setsuna)

At the very least this game will do for Dragon Quest what Monster Hunter World did for Monster Hunter.

It has broken into Western mindshare and is out of the handheld ghetto.

Exactly. Seeing this on store shelves right now warms my Dragon-Quest-loving heart.

lol true.

Only time will tell. The crowd that like theses JRPGs still exist, but if the numbers show it to be a low install base, not much anyone can really do. I think they made a beast JRPG and what it sells is what it sells.

I just hope DQXI shows SE that they don't have make their game westernize and people here like Japanese style RPG. This might lead SE to make FF16 more of traditional JRPG instead of hybrid between WRPG and JRPG in FF15.
