thanks, i actually switched him to mage a while back, i dunno how these changes affect anything. wanted the free heals, but i dunno now, i've gotten used to using items. are there hotkeys you can assign? i might switch em back to fighter or give strider a try. honestly, i think i just want a packrat. what's the best way to get acquisitor inclination?
You can also increase the amount of stuff your character/pawn can carry by making them really fat and heavy in the character creator. You can re-customize your characters with an item sold by the same Jonathon at Encampment who stands next to the rift stone. It's one-time only but after you beat the game he sells another item that lets you recustomize indefinitely.

Thanks, I don't think he will be of much use since I switched him to Warrior just today morning to get some stat boosts (he's usually a Mage) so its cool if you don't.
Borrowed pawns don't level up unless you refresh them from the Rift, so at some point they'll fall behind. I'm lazy too so I only ever switched them when my friends told me they had made some changes to them, or when they were really falling behind in terms of level.
Question: How much longer is Bitterblack Isle when i just got a place called Arisen's refuge?
I'm level 60-something and had to run the past couple of rooms because the big bad wolf kept spawing in packs of three, kinda just want this dungeon to be over with.
Almost there, IIRC. You have about about 3 rooms* before the final boss. That said, I haven't beaten him yet, I tried once but I could barely scratch him, so I warped back to the entrance to appraise some cursed stuff (really needed better gear) and revisit some areas on my way back now that I'm stronger. For example, the first time I entered that big room (I think it's called Forgotten Hall) right before the Arisen Refuge, with the
3 giant black wolves, the multiple maelstrom-wizards and sirens, and the two chained gorecyclops
, I had to run like a little bitch, because those maelstroms just OHKOed me and my pawns every time. But I actually cleared that room on my second visit, though not without some savescumming xD Here was my strategy as a Magick Archer with my pawns being a sorcerer (main), a mage and a strider:
I went on the balcony on the second floor and sniped every maelstrom sorcerer and the sirens, praying that my pawns wouldn't fall off (if I had to go downstairs to rescue them it's pretty much a death sentence, Maelstrom is just too nasty). Every now and then a giant wolf would spawn and run upstairs, but on-on-one they're easy, I'd fight them on the room right before the balcony ledge where it's safe and I'd use the Ricochet skill to destroy them. I'd save and repeat with every wolf. Eventually the room below was clear of everything but the gorecyclops, and you can take those on one-on-one.
To be honest I wouldn't know how to approach that room without strong ranged attacks. Every time I'd enter the room one of the sorcerers would cast Maelstrom and everyone would die pretty much instantly. :S Once they're taken out from a safe distance, though, that room is really not that bad.
* Those 3 rooms are (tagged individually just in case):
-
a really nasty sewers area where Death spawns, as well as an Elder Ogre. I ran like a little bitch. Sadly he seems to always spawn there for now, so I didn't fully explore it nor did I bother killing the ogre with Death always around.
-
a circular room with a single boss, a Living Armour that reminds me of Artorias, but not nearly as nasty
-
an empty city with no enemies, it's safe on the first visit, and the last boss area is just after; however, if you enter the boss room, don't trigger the boss, and leave, enemies will spawn, including annoying Maelstrom sorcerers.
i suppose i could add some more of you and rotate every so often. q, can i add you?
switched main to fighter and this is much better for combat. skills seem more suited for stanadard melee combat. strider was nice for climbing big monsters and spaming hundred kisses, but that skill seems meh for standard mobs.

Assassin is great in that regard because the class can use swords, daggers, bows and shields so you can adjust better to a situation on the fly. The class also has some fantastic abilities (Invisibility, Instant Reset, Masterful Kill etc.).
Also, if you got the Strider skills like evasion roll and double jump then you can use them with Assassin right away.

Yes, the XP is increased if you play only with your pawn or go solo. Also, the XP that you gain is further decreased, if you hire pawns above your level.
The pawn AI is quite good I think, reminds me of God Eater Burst in terms of usefulness.
Was playing and a Saurian jumped behind me so I turn the camera to go after it and am treated to a scene of one pawn sitting on the thing and holding it down, the second cutting its tail off and the third stomping it from the front.
Also seems to be on point with healing and buffing.
Anyone care to help a fellow Gaffer out? ;________;
If it's at all possible, carry my Pawn for a while for Rift Crystals. I will carry your pawn too, for a long while, if it's what you want. She's currently a level 20 Sorcerer (only 6 level in Sorcerer though, before she's a fighter for Sinew) so still a bit weak.
I am playing ps3 version, My PSN is LaughingBanana and my Pawn's name is Celestia. If anyone want me to carry their pawns, just tell me and I'll do it. My MC is currently a warrior, planning to make him Assassin/Ranger end-game.. mostly ranger. So it would be great--although not necessary since I will be happy to carry any kind of pawn regardless--if your pawn's class can complement my MC's and Main Pawn's.
Well... Ensnare/Implicate I think is one of the better mainstays of a Strider, but of course you can't expect it to pull off large stuff like Griffin or Cyclops. But many of the hard-hitting enemies in Blackbitter Island are susceptible to it.
Guardian is very bad on a Mage (and a Sorcerer). If you are a Warrior or a Fighter, a Guardian Mage Pawn will stay close to the Arisen, meaning that it will be attacked by the enemies and won't do a good contribute to the team.
For a Mage, I would say Utilitarian and Medicant are the best choices. And if you want a more offensive type choose Utilitarian and Scather plus Medicant as the terciary inclination.
It's weird, my now-sorcerer pawn is apparently Guardian but I don't know how it happened. I've always trained him to be Scather (with gatherer as second, so I don't have to pick up stuff 'cause I'm lazy xD) or Challenger. I'm gonna have to get some potions to change that...

Weird, she hardly stays close to me. Just hangs some where and keeps trying to heal me despite being surrounded by enemies lol. Yeah probably going to have to change the inclinations.

Hmm, in the vanilla game I pretty much never used them, but at some point I did spam "come" and "help" in Dark Arisen 'cause the idiots kept staying behind to fight OP enemies instead of following me while I was trying to speedrun the hell away. So if spam "go!" a few times it'll go back to challenger/scather?
If you start using "go", it will probably change the inclinations to challanger/scather/mitigator. But I think you should use Elixirs to "fix" that instead.

What's your pawn's name? Mage is exactly what I need. So long as he/she has Anodyne/Halidom or their High version (better) I'll be happy to carry him/her for you. Oh and Fire Boon/Affinity too, if possible

Question though, I like all the support spells mages have, but I heard their growth is kinda shit, so is it better to just shrug it off and level as sorc til 100? D:

Oh great, I was afraid you didn't get it. That armor should hold on for quite a while
It is generally agreed that in terms of growth Sorcerer > Mage, so yea a lot of people level their pawns first as Sorcerer before turning them to Mage.
But!
Having said that, that is generally for min-max players. In the end it doesn't really matter! So long as you have the correct augments and equipments, and logical progression of leveling up (say, you don't turn your pawn suddenly to a Mage after leveling him/her up 150 levels as Fighter/Assassin), you will be fine.
Nah, they use it regardless since it is considered an offensive move. Ensnare/implicate is a must.
Also, Strider has one of the best upgraded moves in Dark Arisen. Brain Splitter is just incredible. It is the move that, I believe, applies the most number of successive hits to an enemy in the fastest way possible when it all connects
Anyways, the DLC equipment, the party hat, is bloody ridiculous. I am torn between keeping it for novelty sake or to give it to someone here because I just can't foresee my pawn or my Arisen ever wearing that, hahaha.
FYI your pawn's inclination is Pioneer/Guardian which is bad, it means that in battles he won't attack enemies until they start attacking you. You should change it up to Scather, Challenger and/or Mitigator. http://dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Pawn_Inclination
Never really bothered to check my pawn's inclinations but had a look after reading the thread and he had Guardian as his primary. Probably because I often spam the Come! command so they stick to me better when running past enemies. Got some Elixirs and changed it.
I'm continuously impressed by the amount of effort they put into the world, there are so many nooks and crannies to it. And the quests are pretty good at making you explore it.
Hey, thanks for that! I also carried your pawn for a while
And I do believe Xanathus also carried my Celestia! HUGE thanks for you, Xanathus, because you just gave me around 170.000 worth of Rift Crystals! Holy shit!
The amount of Rift Crystals borrowed pawns collect are based on the enemies defeated, correct? Later when my Arisen and Celestia are strong enough, I will also carry Shadow around in BI to repay this debt to you Xanathus, since I believe the enemies there are the strongest in the game and thus will give the largest amount of Rift Crystals. Of course I will also be more than happy to carry everyone's pawn as well to collect Rift Crystals!
It's nice to see GAF members helping out each other

Glad to hear you guys got the RCs, I've been grinding offline Ur-Dragon on the road to level 200 so I was worried that they wouldn't count the exp from that while I'm playing in offline mode. It looks like it's enough to just switch to online mode when I release the pawns.

That's wierd, you should have gotten the same as LaughingBanana since I picked up both pawns at the same time and I don't think either of them died. Might be the difference in levels.

What's a good (stat-wise), cool-looking (preferably black-ish) robe for sorcerers or wizards? My main pawn is currently wearing the Votary robe (dragonforged though not maxed), it's the best I got in terms of stats, but I really hate how it looks. Normally the game's easy enough that I wear under-stats stuff just for the looks but on Bitterblack Isle it's certainly no joke. I haven't found anything better than the Votary robe. Maybe I should buy the cardinal robe and upgrade it... looks way inferior stat-wise though.
