Well I put my gamertag in that googledoc.
I'm a lvl...25? sorceror, there abouts. Haven't played any melee class.
Not really worried about character progression. Magic Archer skills just look too damn hype.
Oh man, I was so excited about playing last night and I spent most of my time in the character creator. Seriously the best character creator I have seen in a game. Way too many good combinations of cool looking faces and other features, compared to the neandrethols these editors usually leave you with (love Dark Souls but..).
While I agree the Dark Souls editor is not as good, and I agree that the default choices are generally odd/ugly looking, I DO manage to make good looking faces (IMO, anyway) using it.
here's two of my dark souls chars
Hey guys, what would be better, the Paladin Mantle, or giving my Sorcerer pawn the Wyrmking's Ring?
You can get both.
That video I linked suggests using a Ferrystone to get out, but with right timing even that isn't necessary.Right, can't believe I blanked on that, lol. Thanks for the reminder!
MASSIVE SPOILER for escort quests. Do not highlight this if you don't want your mind to be blown:
Use a Ferrystone to the escort's destination. Instant win.
Who cares? You just admitted he argues to get a rise out of you.
Can't believe I'm dignifying this by asking about it, but I have a friend who tries to compare Dragon's Dogma and Dark Souls on a daily basis. He discovered that he gets a rise out of me so he does it more, because I -- as always -- Defend truth.
The similarities, to me, begin and end with the fact that both games are generally challenging and both games have their own innovative asynchronous multiplayer. Similarities other than that are incidental and superficial (both games have swords, that kind of thing).
DD is a game with an open overworld, speckled with dungeons and mines and caves, more similar to Skyrim. DD has a party and classes. In DD, the challenge comes from stats, levels, gear, and party composition, whereas the moment to moment combat is much faster, busier, and with more flailing and at times button mashing (if you want).
In Dark Souls, it's solitary, slow, deliberate, no classes, no AI companions, stats don't matter as much, and you live or die by your next swing. One wrong move and you're dead. In DD, even if you WANT to die it can take a while because the action is so hectic and your party so busy.
Right now, I'm doing an escort quest across the overworld. The battles are chaotic with many participants. It's never more striking how differnet this game is from Dark Souls than now, but my friend still insists the games are highly similar.
I'm getting sick of arguing this. Can someone else tell him to shut the fuck up for me and I'll link him.
Is there an actual question here? The games are highly similar in many ways. Theres only a few key differences.
DD - Emphasizes D&D style openworld/dungeon exploration, adeventuring, classic rpg tropes; combat takes longer and is more based on planning and strategy than on execution; more story , less lore
DS - Emphasizes isolation, despair, and exploration; combat is quicker, you win or lose fights much faster and focuses on execution; less story, more lore
Let's put it this way. Is there anyone here who thinks these two games are highly similar and deserve being mentioned together?
you guys are killing me.
Unrelated, since I've been playing DDDA these past couple days, I've noticed no one has yet rented my pawn. Back in 2012 when I played the game the first time around, I was having my pawn rented endlessly throughout my levels.
People are going to make connections to games that are fresh in their mind.
I get a lot of Devil May Cry vibes from certain aspects (for good reason, given the development team). Blitz strike is just Stinger from DMC with a different name
throw knife to kill birdsFuck me after watching the ranger gameplay vids..I think I'm gonna do that. Ranged looks great in this game. Not to mention the first board quest was to kill two seabirds, which was IMPOSSIBLE as a warrior. Well, I killed one, but the birds are so god damned small on screen it was really strange.

I suggest putting the first port crystal at shadowfort. fyi bros.
Yeah..restarted as a Strider and now I think the game has clicked for me. Fighter seemed a bit off.. I know that for min/maxing it's best to do fighter anyway but I really like this ranged gameplay.

I put my first port crystal on the ledge at the witchwood exit. This gave you access to witchwood, cassardis and the encampment. Although with DA out now, it isn't as effective now that you can teleport to cassardis.
Also, I'm not sure where you're at right now but there will be quest that will create a shortcut to the Shadowfort.
One thing to keep in mind about leveling up as strider is its comparatively odd stat growths. It grows magic attack as well as the regular physical stuff. Most/all other classes only grow stuff that they specifically need.
so strider may grow into a mystic knight or somethign pretty well, generally speaking I think the stat growths are not very min/max.
The other argument is "F it, play to have fun, who cares about min max", and that's a fine argument. I mention this just for what it's worth.
Sorry, i left out the new functionality of the RCs in my statement cause i figured he's not going to BBI anytime soon. Its a good thing I horded them from the first game, cause I'll be using them in DA a lot.Rift Crystals in Dark Arisen are used as a form of currency on Bitterblack on top of their function of buying things from Johnathan and hiring higher-level pawns from the original game.
You're gonna burn through a lot of them mama jammas if you want to uncurse items and rarefy equipment.
That's probably why they added the option to buy them for cash monies.
Sorry, bad choice of words, I meant reset the game. But like someone else said, you might have bought from the wrong shop. I believe the game is 100% doable without using them though, I don't remember really using them at all. For potions, learn how to combine herbs and other things to make your own. The game is great!Restart? I'm like 10 hours in. UGh, this game is getting on my nerves. I need RC to by Elixirs to alter the stupidity of my pawn. In order to do that I have to rent him out. No one is buying him partly because his primary is guardian and has no secondary. Ugh, this game is really become a cycle of frustration for me. I want to love it, and I can, but it's stuff like this that prevents me from actually enjoying it more.
